How did I learn English

Mnemonics
(greek μνημονικόν — art of remembering)
A set of special techniques and methods that facilitate the memorization of necessary information and increasing the amount of memory by the formation of associations (links). Replacement of abstract objects and facts with concepts and representations that have a visual, audial or kinesthetic representation, linking objects for memorization with those already available in the regions of different types of memory.

In this section you will find material to help you learn words.
Most of the language learning time is spent learning words, so we offer several exercises.
In the meantime, I'll share my experience.

How did I learn English

I started with one textbook, everything was easy, understandable, stress-free and useless.
Tried another one, it was very hard, like some formula you read, quit.
I took Bonka's textbook, it was clear and it kept me in suspense.
That textbook was good for me. And someone praised the one I didn't like.

I was working alone, so I decided, and it doesn't matter what language I think, I decided to think in English.
Made myself a cribbler-type dictionary on one piece of paper.
There's the words of everything I see - table, chair, wall. Adjectives, basic verbs.
Thinking and peeking at the dictionary.
At the end of the day, I was rewriting the dictionary. It became clear what words I was missing from the dictionary, and the words I had already learned I wasn't writing them down.

Then I went to Norway, I knew Esperanto and talked in it, but most people do not speak Esperanto.
And there were situations where I was forced to use my English, well, as it is.
I was surprised to find out I could talk.

By the way, that's how I helped others start talking. When a person finds out what they can say, it's fascinating.

Then, I realized the level was weak and I needed more practice.
And the best practice at the time is reading. You can always stop and look at the words in the dictionary.
But it was hard to read magazine articles because you read each one again.

Then I thought it was better to read a middle-sized book instead of a short article.
Looks scary, but it's one author. We get used to his style of speech and it's actually easier and more effective than reading articles by different authors.

I first ran through the text and hung unfamiliar words, made the dictionary and the reading went faster and at the same time did the work, which helps to remember.

Foreigners like to learn the language on TV series because it's simple language and short phrases. All the more reason why it's available today.

Practice

A friend of mine spoke English at home, it was his home language.
His mom was an English teacher, so she taught the kid. By the way, there is such a technique, if spouses speak, say, English, at home they talk to the child in English, and Russian he will quickly learn in the yard. So, my acquaintance at 15 rebelled, saying why should we speak English, we are Russians. At 25 years old, he forgot his language. Of course, it will be easier for him to recover than to learn from nothing, but it will take a lot of work. So, the first question to ask yourself before class is HOW Will I use my tongue? And you should use it right after class. Variant like "I'll learn the language, put it on the shelf and when I need it, once and use it" do not roll. We won't use it, we'll lose it.

Baruch Podolski - author of the best Hebrew-Russian dictionary. Interesting things I said that I'm ready to sign up for - until you talk, you don't teach, you're still getting ready.
