10 tips for novice users of Internet

1. Getting acquainted with the Internet

The Internet is like a huge library. It contains many Internet sites that consist of pages.

Using the computer and the programs installed on it, you can connect to the Internet to view the information stored in it: texts, pictures, photos, music, movies, and save them to your disk.

Internet pages are not stored on your computer. It is just a "window" through which you browse websites. If there are errors in entering information - it's not scary. You can not spoil or change anything on the Internet from your computer. If you have closed the desired page - you can always reopen it in its previous form by clicking on the "Back" button or re-typing its address.

From one page, you can switch to others using links - usually the links are underlined and highlighted in color. When the mouse pointer turns from an arrow into a hand icon, it means that you point it at the link. Sometimes the link is a picture. Just click the link once with the left mouse button, and a new page will open.

From some sites, you can also send emails and instant messages, post photos on them and keep diaries. The Internet is the easiest way to communicate with friends and colleagues anywhere in the world.

The Internet contains many sites on a variety of topics. When I need to find a site with the information that interests me, I go to google.ru and do a search.

2. Enter the address of the site

Each site has its own address, which allows you to find it. It can consist of Latin letters and numbers and is divided into three parts ...

Address usually starts with www - it often can not be written - or with any word. Then, through the point, goes the name of the site, which ends with a short designation of the country or site type, for example: ru - Russia, ua - Ukraine, com - international sites, org - non-commercial. Two identical addresses with different endings can lead to two different sites.

The address of the site is entered in the address bar of the browser - programs for browsing the Internet. Browsers are different, the most common: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome. Any of them will open the site you need. In modern browsers there are many different useful functions.

If you enter the address incorrectly, you will receive an error message or go to another site. To avoid mistakes and not to print the address every time, bookmark those sites that you often go to.

3. Adding bookmarks to the sites

To remember and write down the addresses of interesting sites to you is inconvenient, yes and not necessary. For these purposes, bookmarks were invented.

To remember the site that is currently open, click "Favorites", then "Add to Favorites." If everything is correct - feel free to click in the appeared window "Add" - the bookmark is ready! Next time just open the browser, go to "Favorites" and select the desired site. You can name the bookmark as you like.

In order not to be confused with bookmarks, you can save them in different folders, for example, "work", "rest", "interesting."

It's important to remember that your bookmarks will only be accessible on that computer and in the browser where you made them.

Bookmarks can be made in any browser. In Google Chrome, just press the asterisk next to the address bar - and the bookmark is ready.

4. Installing the home page

If you always start working on the Internet from one and the same site, you can make it your home page. The home page automatically opens when you start the browser. This can be your mail, search or news.

To set or change the home page, go to the "Tools" menu, select "Internet Options" and select the "Current" button, then "Apply" - the home page will become the site that is currently open.

To switch to the home page at any time, click the "Home" icon or the Alt + Home key combination.

5. Use the navigation keys

Working on the Internet, I look through many sites, copy texts and photos and do many other operations. To do this, you can use the mouse or keyboard shortcuts ...

For example: Backspace returns to the previous page

The up and down arrows allow you to scroll the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN page to make it even faster, and the Home and End keys allow you to jump straight to the beginning or end of a long page.

Pressing the Tab key moves to the next link on the page or to the next form field.

There are several useful combinations with the Control key.

6. Looking for information on the Internet

Although the Internet and the big one, finding in it what you need is pretty easy. Usually I'm looking at google.com.

Here are some tips that can help: Decide exactly what you want to find: by the word "felt boots" there are 453 thousand pages. On request: "buy valenki in bulk at a discount in Suzdal" - only 220 pages.

If you are looking for an exact phrase or quote, write it in quotes: "she has a Mu cow" You may not even type the entire query, but choose it from the appearing tips

To see the answer directly in the search results, immediately compose a query in the form of an answer: the population St. Petersburg is ... Catherine the Great was born ...

You can search not only texts (Sherlock Holmes), but also pictures, videos, news, maps.

You can search for information only in a specific language, in a specific format (for example, only presentations), or on a specific site.

7. Save files from Internet

Files from the Internet can be stored on your computer, and it's very simple ...

To save a photo or a picture, right-click on it, choose "Save Picture As" and "Save". In order not to search for downloaded files, it is convenient to save everything to the Desktop.

To save a music file, simply click on it with the left mouse button. If the download does not start, right-click on it and select "Save Target As ...". Select the "Desktop" and click "Save" - the download is complete.

In order not to clutter the "Desktop", create a folder "Music" directly on it and transfer the file to it. You can immediately specify the folder "Music" when downloading.

Similarly, files sent by mail are saved.

If you immediately save the files in the desired folders, you do not have to search for them later. But if you still forgot where you saved the file, use the file search on the computer.

8. Making an e-mail

Most of your friends and colleagues already have an email. If you do not have it, you can also open your email account. There are many sites that allow you to do this free ...

For example, to create a free email from Google, go to Gmail.com and click the Create Account button. You can choose what your address will be - your name, nickname or any word. If the address you have chosen is already occupied by someone, add numbers to it or select another one.

Address can consist of Latin letters, numbers or signs, for example points, and always has two parts, separated by the symbol "dog". The first part is the name of the user you chose, the second part is the name of the mail site. Select the password for your mailbox and remember it.

Now you have a mailing address, also called email - nikolay.fomenko@gmail.com. Remember or write down your email and tell your friends completely. Only nikolay.fomenko or gmail.com is not enough.

To write a letter to a friend, specify the address of the recipient (you can have several addresses separated by commas), the subject of the letter, write the letter itself, attach the file (for example, photo), if necessary, and press "Send". In a couple of minutes the letter will be in the friend's mailbox.

9. We communicate through the Internet

Emails come very quickly, but they sometimes have to answer for a very long time. There is another, faster way to communicate via Internet - instant messaging ...

The most popular programs are ICQ, Skype,. They allow you to correspond with short messages "live" with those who are currently on the Internet.
In order to start rewriting with friends, you need to add them to your contact list.

In the contact list, you can see which friends are on the Internet (they are marked in green) - you can immediately start communicating with them. Click on his name, write a message, send - and your interlocutor immediately sees it and can write you an answer. You can also send files to each other, and if you have a microphone - you can even call each other.

It is not always necessary to install such programs to computer - sometimes they are built into the site. For example, in the Gmail mail service, you can not only write letters, but also communicate with friends via chat. Messages will be opened in the same browser window, and then you can easily view all your correspondence.

10. Choose a password

For e-mail and other services, you need to come up with a password ...

A good password is easy for you to remember and hard to guess to intruders. Do not choose a user name, date of birth, phone number, simple combinations of letters and digits as a password. Use what you know well and what is unknown to others. For example, the address where you lived as a child, your mother's maiden name, and so on. And let the password will be no less than eight characters. When filling out the password, pay ATTENTION, lowercase or uppercase letters you use, and what language is on the keyboard.

You will be able to retrieve the forgotten password by e-mail.

Take care of your password as a house key. Do not enter it on other pages under different pretexts. Never dictate it to anyone by phone, do not send it by mail or sms, even if the Internet services that you use ask about it. Your password is like a bank card code, which only you know.

Do not use the same password anywhere. It is convenient to have several passwords of different levels of complexity: for financial services, for mail and personal data, for entertainment resources.
