Video

720p, 1080p, 1080i, 1280p и т.д. - The signs are found in HDTV movies and rips. Digit is the resolution of the picture vertically with a 16: 9 aspect ratio. For example - 720p - 1280×720
i (interlaced scan) interlaced scanning, the image is formed from two half-frames (as in usual television). At the same time, the stream decreases (hence the file size), but the motion can be seen in the so-called motion. 'Comb effect' on the border of colors. Frequency 50 or 60 half-frames per second
p (progressive scan) Progressive scan, the frame is transmitted and formed entirely, while the picture in motion is not distorted. Disadvantage of progressive - increased by a factor of two in comparison with interlaced. As a result, a larger file size or a lower frame rate.

BD-Rip (BDRip, BRRip, BR-Rip) - Rip with Blu-ray DVD disc (from 25 Gb per layer). Refers to HDTV. In real BDRip movies, the quality is much better than DVDRip. The file size is 9.5 Gb. Often in the designation indicate the size of the picture. For example, BDRip.720p BDRip.1080p. Sometimes there are rips with a DVD with an enlarged picture and an incorrect BDRip designation.

CAMRip - Sometimes mistakenly labeled as Screen (SCR). Video and sound are recorded on the camera in the cinema hall. The image can sometimes be shot at an angle to the screen, tremble, in some films the heads of other moviegoers are visible, etc. The quality of the sound is different, there may be noise like the laughter of the public. Usually the worst and the very first quality that can be found after the official release of the film.

DVB-Rip (DVBRip, DVB-T Rip) - Same as SATRip. The material is recorded on terrestrial digital television broadcasting (usually digital MPEG2 video, occasionally MPEG4). Quality depends on the provider, channel and quality of the rip. Usually such Rip is only slightly inferior to DVDRip (although there are exceptions). Most often there is a logo of the channel.

DVD Custom - A self-made DVD that was not produced in print runs by any publisher. Creation of such a DVD occurs either by full-fledged authoring (self-manufacturing all the elements of the DVD structure from scratch), or by changing the content (the quantity or quality of video and audio streams, menus, additional materials, etc.) of a previously published DVD (except Deprotection).

DVD5 (DVD-5) - Copy (compressed) from the original DVD. The volume is 4-4.5 Gb.

DVD9 (DVD-9) - Copy (compressed) with a double-layered original DVD. The volume is 7-9 Gb.

DVD-Rip (DVDRip) - Rip from the original DVD, often compressed into MPEG4 to reduce the size of the movie. Basically there are DVDRip in the volume of 650-700 Mb and 1.3-1.5 Gb. Quality is very good, although it depends on the mastery of the creator ('ripper'). Sometimes versions c with better quality are designated as SuperDVD, HQ DVD.

R5 - DVD-Rip from a disc distributed in the CIS with the original (English) soundtrack from other sources.

DVD-Screener (DVDScr, DVDScreener) (SCR) - Copy c 'promotional' DVD (CD for critics, advertising version or beta). Quality is like a DVDRip, but the picture is usually 'spoiled' by watermarks, warning inscriptions and black and white inserts ('missing color').

HD-DVD-Rip (HDDVDRip, HDDVD-Rip, HDDVD) - Rip from HD DVD disc (from 15 Gb per layer). Refers to HDTV. In connection with the actual loss of HD-DVD in the war of formats Blu-Ray VS HD-DVD, the number of such rips will be insignificant.

HDDVD-Remux - The re-assembled streams of the original HDDVD without the menu in the container are usually TS or MKV. Identical to the original. Without loss of quality.

BluRay-Remux - The re-assembled streams of the original BlyRay disk without a menu in the container are usually TS or MKV. Identical to the original. Without loss of quality.

Laserdisc-RIP (LDRip) - Like DVDRip, only with Laserdisc.

Dtheater-Rip - Digitization of a high-definition cassette. Is the video quality high? but there may be noise and blurry pictures.

HDRip - Videos with HD resolution are 720p and 1080p.

HDRip AVC or AVC (Advanced Video Coding) - H.264 / AVC / MPEG-4 Part 10 - Licensed video compression standard, designed to achieve a high degree of video stream compression while maintaining high quality.

HDTV-Rip (HDTVRip) - Rip from an HDTV movie (1920×1080, 1280×720), which is often done with the resolution of a conventional (non-HDTV) rip (sometimes with original resolution). Quality is often better than DVDRip. Under the general name HDTV-Rip there are rips with BD-Rip, HDDVD-Rip, digital satellite and cable operators broadcasting in HDTV. In the description, signs of 720p, 1080p, 1080i, and 1280p often appear (see below.).

INTERNAL - Unofficial release. For some reason, the group that released such a release does not want to be subject to the rules of the 'scene'

IPTV-Rip (IPTVRip) - Same as SATRip. The material is recorded with digital IP television (usually digital MPEG2 or MPEG4 video). Usually such Rip is only slightly inferior to DVDRip. Most often there is a logo of the channel. Appeared relatively recently.

LDRip (Laserdisc-RIP) - Similarly DVDRip. This version is made from Laserdisc. It is rare, mostly old movies.

OC - Original screen

PDTV-Rip (PDTVRip) - Pure Digital Television Rip - Rip from 'pure' digital television. The notation indicates that there was no conversion from an analog signal to a digital signal during encoding. Under the general designation PDTV-Rip, SAT-Rip, DVB-RIP, IPTV-RIP can be hidden. The source can be a satellite channel (DVB-S), non-coded terrestrial digital broadcasting DVB-T, sometimes IP-TV and another digital broadcasting channel in which special methods preventing direct recording of a digital stream are not applied (or successfully bypassed). Most often there is a logo of the channel.

SAT-Rip (SATRip), DSRip - Similar to TVRip. The material is recorded from satellite video (usually a digital MPEG2 video). Quality depends on the provider, channel and quality of the rip. Usually such Rip is only slightly inferior to DVDRip (although there are exceptions). Most often there is a logo of the channel.

SCREENER (SCR)VHS-Rip (VHSRip) or VHS-SCREENER (VHSScr) - Same as DVDScr, only with video cassettes. A copy of the 'promotional' VHS (cassette for film critics, advertising version or beta). The image quality is comparable to a very good VHS, but the picture is usually 'spoiled' by watermarks, warning inscriptions and black and white inserts ('missing color'). The sound is good, usually stereo or Dolby Surround.

Super Telesync (SuperTS, Super-TS) - This TS (occasionally TC), sent through a computer - the film is clarified, aligned, alien noise of image and sound, etc. Quality is often not bad, but depends on the creator.

Transport Stream - Raw audio or video rip digital TV.

TC (Telecine) - The copy is removed from the film using special equipment (film-scanner) or recorded from a special projector with outputs for audio and video. The quality depends on the equipment used - from good to indistinguishable from DVD, the sound is excellent. Sometimes there are problems with the naturalness of the colors ('yellowness' pictures).

TS (Telesync) - Ideally, it is recorded from the screen by a professional (digital) camera mounted on a tripod in an empty cinema or in the operator's cabin. The video quality is much better than in CAMRip. Sound is recorded directly from the projector or other separate output, for example, the headphone jacks in the chair. Thus, the sound is very good and without interference, usually in stereo mode. A lot of TS is actually CAMRip, which is confused with the name.

TV-Rip (TVRip) - The material is recorded from a television signal, usually cable (but come from a simple antenna). Almost all TV series are first distributed in this or SATRip format. The quality depends on the hardware, software and the ability of the person who rips.

VHS-Rip (VHSRip) - The source of the material is a VHS cassette, usually of fairly average quality.

WEB-DL, WEB-DLRip - Broadcast via the Internet in excellent quality, usually with 720p. The source from which this rip was made is downloaded from iTunes (a paid server, there they show in excellent quality). There are no logos, there is no pop-up TV garbage and still there are final credits. In general, we can say that this is a new kind of rips that are not inferior to DVD rips, they are even more likely to be identical to BDRip

iTunes Digital Copy - Video from the online Apple store by code from the packaging of the license disk.

Sound

AVO - (Author Voice Over) - Author's odnogolosy.

D - Duplicated (dubbed)

DUB - (Dublicated) - A duplicated translation (dubbing) is when the actors in a movie speak a language that you understand and when the original language is not heard at all, while all other sounds should be preserved and lipings (from the word lip-lips), ie the viewer It should give the impression that the actor speaks the native language of the audience.
Full dubbing of the film is a technically complex process and is considered a "top flight" in the voice acting of the film. It is carried out by professionals in film studios. In order to duplicate the film, all recorded sounds and voices must be disconnected to replace voices, then reduce the overall sound.

DUB.TS, DUBTS, DUBC - (Dublicated TS/CAMRip) - Dubbing from the screen. That is, the video sequence can be of high quality, and the sound is used from a copy of poor quality. For example, there is a Russian film of poor quality, and the English version of high quality.

Dubbed - The original sound is removed from the film. For example, they took a track from a Russian movie theater and put it on an American release.

DVO (2VO) - (Double Voice Over) - Two-voiced offscreen translation - offscreen translation, but unlike many-voiced - the film translates two understudies, a man and a woman.

L - Amateurish polyphonic translation

L1 - Amateur odnogolosy translation

L2 - Amateurish two-voiced translation

Line.Dubbed - The same as Dubbed, only in this case the sound was taken from the 'chair' or 'projector' (Line).

Mic.Dubbed - The same as Dubbed, only the sound was recorded by a microphone in the cinema.

MVO - (Multi Voice Over) - Many-voiced (three or more, maybe professional or amateur) is when the original speech of the film is muffled (at the same time a few other sounds are muffled) and overhead the voices of several actors (professional) or non-actors (amateur) are superimposed, but the original soundtrack is still slightly Audible.

O - Original (in Russian films)

OST, Orig, Original - (Original SoundTrack) - Original sound

P - Professional many-voiced translation. It is worth noting that the letter P in the title of the film can also denote professional two-voiced translation, as well as L-amateur dvuhgolosy, as many of the release of the group do not divide the translation into many-voiced and two-voiced.

P1 - Professional odnogolosy translation (often author's)

P2 - Professional two-voiced translation

PC - Professional (many-voiced, voice-over) from the screen

PDVO, P2VO - (Professional Double Voice Over) - Professional dvuhgolosy (or 'boy - girl')

PNO - There is no sound.

POFF - No sound is required.

PSVO, PVO - (Professional Single Voice Over) - Professional odnogolosy

SVO (1VO, VO) - (Single Voice Over) - Odnogolosy offscreen translation - translation, where all actors are voiced by the same understudy (usually a man). Such translations are especially familiar to all movie lovers on videocassettes of the 80-90s.

Simultaneous interpretation (Goblin) - Cool translation. Changed the names of the characters, the plot.

Features of the release

Dupe - The second release of the same film by another release group (usually stolen from the first).

Proper - Re-release the film (sometimes another group) due to the poor quality of the previous one.

Recode - Release, reworked in a different format or newly coded.

Rerip - A new rip movie

DC (Director's Cut) - The production version is a special edition of the film that represents the film from the point of view of the director, and not edited in accordance with the requirements of customers, distributors, studios, film critics, etc.

Limited - The film was shown in a limited number of cinemas. Usually not more than 250-500.

Pay-per-view -  (View for money) - video content distributed by HBO channels on individual orders of subscribers of the corresponding paid service (for example, erotic) recoded by XviD codec. Another 'folk art' in the notation of the series

SE (Special Edition) - Special version of the film. A vivid example is the restored version of the Star Wars, with the addition of computer graphics, animation, and 3D models to the material of the 1970s.

STV (Straight To Video) - The film immediately came out on DVD / cassette bypassing the cinemas. Quality - respectively DVDrip or VHSrip.

WP (Workprint) - This is the so-called 'Beta version' of the film. Particularly interesting for fans of films. Usually comes out in VCD format much earlier before the show in the world's cinemas. Due to the fact that this is a preliminary version of the film, the quality of the material can be either excellent or very low. Often there may be some scenes, computer special effects. However, there can also be scenes in the Workprint that will be cut out in the final version. You can find out such versions by timer at the top or bottom of the screen (it is necessary for the subsequent installation of the final version).

FS (Fullscreen) - Release in full screen, video resolution 3: 4. Often Fullscreen is made from the Widescreen version by the Pan and Scan (PS) method, cropping part of the frame on the sides.

WS (Widescreen), Letterbox - Widescreen video, usually 16: 9. When viewing on a normal screen with a 3: 4 aspect ratio, black bars will appear at the top and bottom of the screen.

PS (Pan and Scan) - The method of converting widescreen (WS) video to fullscreen fullscreen (FS). This cuts off part of the frame to the right and left.

Watermarked - Small logos of a TV channel or a release.

Subtitles

Hardsub - Subtitles are embedded in the video stream.

Softsub - Subtitles are a separate file / stream, and rendered by the player.

SUB - (Subtitle, Subbed) - The film with subtitles.
