¹ וַֽיְהִי֙ H1961 came דְּבַר־ H1697 Now the word יְהוָ֔ה H3068 of the LORD אֶל־ H413 to יוֹנָ֥ה H3124 came unto Jonah בֶן־ H1121 the son אֲמִתַּ֖י H573 of Amittai לֵאמֹֽר׃ H559 saying

² ק֠וּם H6965 Arise לֵ֧ךְ H1980 go אֶל־ H413 to נִֽינְוֵ֛ה H5210 to Nineveh הָעִ֥יר H5892 city הַגְּדוֹלָ֖ה H1419 that great וּקְרָ֣א H7121 and cry עָלֶ֑יהָ H5921 against כִּֽי־ H3588 for עָלְתָ֥ה H5927 is come up רָעָתָ֖ם H7451 against it for their wickedness לְפָנָֽי׃ H6440 before

³ וַיָּ֤קָם H6965 rose up יוֹנָה֙ H3124 But Jonah לִבְרֹ֣חַ H1272 to flee תַּרְשִׁ֔ישָׁה H8659 unto Tarshish מִלִּפְנֵ֖י H6440 from the presence יְהוָ֑ה H3068 of the LORD וַיֵּ֨רֶד H3381 and went down יָפ֜וֹ H3305 to Joppa וַיִּמְצָ֥א H4672 and he found אָנִיָּ֣ה ׀ H591 a ship בָּאָ֣ה H935 going תַרְשִׁ֗ישׁ H8659 to Tarshish וַיִּתֵּ֨ן H5414 so he paid שְׂכָרָ֜הּ H7939 the fare וַיֵּ֤רֶד H3381 thereof and went down בָּהּ֙ H0 לָב֤וֹא H935 into it to go עִמָּהֶם֙ H5973 them תַּרְשִׁ֔ישָׁה H8659 with them unto Tarshish מִלִּפְנֵ֖י H6440 from the presence יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 of the LORD

⁴ וַֽיהוָ֗ה H3068 But the LORD הֵטִ֤יל H2904 sent out רֽוּחַ־ H7307 wind גְּדוֹלָה֙ H1419 a great אֶל־ H413 on הַיָּ֔ם H3220 into the sea וַיְהִ֥י H1961 become סַֽעַר־ H5591 tempest גָּד֖וֹל H1419 and there was a mighty בַּיָּ֑ם H3220 in the sea וְהָ֣אֳנִיָּ֔ה H591 so that the ship חִשְּׁבָ֖ה H2803 was like לְהִשָּׁבֵֽר׃ H7665 to be broken

⁵ וַיִּֽירְא֣וּ H3372 were afraid הַמַּלָּחִ֗ים H4419 Then the mariners וַֽיִּזְעֲקוּ֮ H2199 and cried אִ֣ישׁ H376 every man אֶל־ H413 to his אֱלֹהָיו֒ H430 unto his god וַיָּטִ֨לוּ H2904 and cast forth אֶת־ H853 הַכֵּלִ֜ים H3627 the wares אֲשֶׁ֤ר H834 which בָּֽאֳנִיָּה֙ H591 that in the ship אֶל־ H413 into הַיָּ֔ם H3220 into the sea לְהָקֵ֖ל H7043 to lighten מֵֽעֲלֵיהֶ֑ם H5921 But וְיוֹנָ֗ה H3124 of them But Jonah יָרַד֙ H3381 was gone down אֶל־ H413 into יַרְכְּתֵ֣י H3411 into the sides הַסְּפִינָ֔ה H5600 of the ship וַיִּשְׁכַּ֖ב H7901 and he lay וַיֵּרָדַֽם׃ H7290 and was fast asleep

⁶ וַיִּקְרַ֤ב H7126 came אֵלָיו֙ H413 about רַ֣ב H7227 in abundance הַחֹבֵ֔ל H2259 pilot וַיֹּ֥אמֶר H559 to him and said ל֖וֹ H0 מַה־ H4100 How לְּךָ֣ H0 נִרְדָּ֑ם H7290 unto him What meanest thou O sleeper ק֚וּם H6965 ? arise קְרָ֣א H7121 call אֶל־ H413 on אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ H430 upon thy God אוּלַ֞י H194 Perhaps יִתְעַשֵּׁ֧ת H6245 will think הָאֱלֹהִ֛ים H430 if so be that God לָ֖נוּ H0 וְלֹ֥א H3808 we will not נֹאבֵֽד׃ H6 upon us that we perish

⁷ וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ H559 And they said אִ֣ישׁ H376 every one אֶל־ H413 to his רֵעֵ֗הוּ H7453 to his fellow לְכוּ֙ H1980 Come וְנַפִּ֣ילָה H5307 and let us cast גֽוֹרָל֔וֹת H1486 lots וְנֵ֣דְעָ֔ה H3045 that we may know בְּשֶׁלְּמִ֛י H7945 for whose cause הָרָעָ֥ה H7451 this evil הַזֹּ֖את H2063 likewise לָ֑נוּ H0 וַיַּפִּ֙לוּ֙ H5307 upon us So they cast גּֽוֹרָל֔וֹת H1486 lots וַיִּפֹּ֥ל H5307 fell הַגּוֹרָ֖ל H1486 and the lot עַל־ H5921 on יוֹנָֽה׃ H3124 upon Jonah

⁸ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ H559 Then said אֵלָ֔יו H413 to him הַגִּידָה־ H5046 they unto him Tell נָּ֣א H4994 now לָ֔נוּ H0 בַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר H834 after לְמִי־ H4310 whose הָרָעָ֥ה H7451 us we pray thee for whose cause this evil הַזֹּ֖את H2063 likewise לָ֑נוּ H0 מַה־ H4100 What מְּלַאכְתְּךָ֙ H4399 business וּמֵאַ֣יִן H370 whence תָּב֔וֹא H935 comest מָ֣ה H4100 What אַרְצֶ֔ךָ H776 common וְאֵֽי־ H335 how מִזֶּ֥ה H2088 account this עַ֖ם H5971 people אָֽתָּה׃ H859 He

⁹ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר H559 And he said אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם H413 to עִבְרִ֣י H5680 unto them I an Hebrew אָנֹ֑כִי H595 I וְאֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֞ה H3068 the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֤י H430 the God הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ H8064 of heaven אֲנִ֣י H589 and I יָרֵ֔א H3373 and I fear אֲשֶׁר־ H834 who עָשָׂ֥ה H6213 which hath made אֶת־ H853 הַיָּ֖ם H3220 the sea וְאֶת־ H853 הַיַּבָּשָֽׁה׃ H3004 and the dry

¹⁰ וַיִּֽירְא֤וּ H3372 afraid הָֽאֲנָשִׁים֙ H582 Then were the men יִרְאָ֣ה H3373 afraid גְדוֹלָ֔ה H1419 aloud וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ H559 and said אֵלָ֖יו H413 to him מַה־ H4100 How זֹּ֣את H2063 you עָשִׂ֑יתָ H6213 unto him Why hast thou done כִּֽי־ H3588 because יָדְע֣וּ H3045 knew הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים H582 this? For the men כִּֽי־ H3588 because מִלִּפְנֵ֤י H6440 from the presence יְהוָה֙ H3069 God ה֣וּא H1931 he בֹרֵ֔חַ H1272 that he fled כִּ֥י H3588 because הִגִּ֖יד H5046 because he had told לָהֶֽם׃ H1992 they

¹¹ וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ H559 Then said אֵלָיו֙ H413 to him מַה־ H4100 What נַּ֣עֲשֶׂה H6213 they unto him What shall we do לָּ֔ךְ H0 וְיִשְׁתֹּ֥ק H8367 may be calm הַיָּ֖ם H3220 unto thee that the sea מֵֽעָלֵ֑ינוּ H5921 and כִּ֥י H3588 for הַיָּ֖ם H3220 unto us? for the sea הוֹלֵ֥ךְ H1980 wrought וְסֹעֵֽר׃ H5590 and was tempestuous

¹² וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 And he said אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם H413 to שָׂא֙וּנִי֙ H5375 unto them Take me up וַהֲטִילֻ֣נִי H2904 and cast me forth אֶל־ H413 into הַיָּ֔ם H3220 into the sea וְיִשְׁתֹּ֥ק H8367 be calm הַיָּ֖ם H3220 so shall the sea מֵֽעֲלֵיכֶ֑ם H5921 and כִּ֚י H3588 for יוֹדֵ֣עַ H3045 unto you for I know אָ֔נִי H589 I כִּ֣י H3588 on בְשֶׁלִּ֔י H7945 that for my sake הַסַּ֧עַר H5591 tempest הַגָּד֛וֹל H1419 this great הַזֶּ֖ה H2088 this עֲלֵיכֶֽם׃ H5921 and

¹³ וַיַּחְתְּר֣וּ H2864 rowed hard הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים H582 Nevertheless the men לְהָשִׁ֛יב H7725 to bring אֶל־ H413 to הַיַּבָּשָׁ֖ה H3004 to the land וְלֹ֣א H3808 not יָכֹ֑לוּ H3201 but they could כִּ֣י H3588 for הַיָּ֔ם H3220 not for the sea הוֹלֵ֥ךְ H1980 wrought וְסֹעֵ֖ר H5590 and was tempestuous עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ H5921 against

¹⁴ וַיִּקְרְא֨וּ H7121 Wherefore they cried אֶל־ H413 on יְהוָ֜ה H3068 unto the LORD וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ H559 and said אָנָּ֤ה H577 We beseech thee יְהוָה֙ H3068 O LORD אַל־ H408 nay נָ֣א H4994 us נֹאבְדָ֗ה H6 we beseech thee let us not perish בְּנֶ֙פֶשׁ֙ H5315 life הָאִ֣ישׁ H376 for this man's הַזֶּ֔ה H2088 of this וְאַל־ H408 not תִּתֵּ֥ן H5414 and lay עָלֵ֖ינוּ H5921 and דָּ֣ם H1818 blood נָקִ֑יא H5355 innocent כִּֽי־ H3588 for אַתָּ֣ה H859 O יְהוָ֔ה H3068 for thou O LORD כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 you חָפַ֖צְתָּ H2654 as it pleased עָשִֽׂיתָ׃ H6213 hast done

¹⁵ וַיִּשְׂאוּ֙ H5375 So they took up אֶת־ H853 יוֹנָ֔ה H3124 Jonah וַיְטִלֻ֖הוּ H2904 and cast him forth אֶל־ H413 into הַיָּ֑ם H3220 into the sea וַיַּעֲמֹ֥ד H5975 ceased הַיָּ֖ם H3220 and the sea מִזַּעְפּֽוֹ׃ H2197 from her raging

¹⁶ וַיִּֽירְא֧וּ H3372 feared הָאֲנָשִׁ֛ים H376 the men יִרְאָ֥ה H3373 afraid גְדוֹלָ֖ה H1419 greatly אֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֑ה H3068 the LORD וַיִּֽזְבְּחוּ־ H2076 and offered זֶ֙בַח֙ H2077 a sacrifice לַֽיהוָ֔ה H3068 unto the LORD וַֽיִּדְּר֖וּ H5087 and made נְדָרִֽים׃ H5088 vows

¹⁷ וַיְמַ֤ן H4487 had prepared יְהוָה֙ H3068 Now the LORD דָּ֣ג H1709 fish גָּד֔וֹל H1419 a great לִבְלֹ֖עַ H1104 to swallow up אֶת־ H853 יוֹנָ֑ה H3124 Jonah וַיְהִ֤י H1961 become יוֹנָה֙ H3124 And Jonah בִּמְעֵ֣י H4578 was in the belly הַדָּ֔ג H1709 of the fish שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה H7969 three יָמִ֖ים H3117 days וּשְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה H7969 and three לֵילֽוֹת׃ H3915 nights

¹ וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֣ל H6419 prayed יוֹנָ֔ה H3124 Then Jonah אֶל־ H413 to יְהוָ֖ה H3068 unto the LORD אֱלֹהָ֑יו H430 his God מִמְּעֵ֖י H4578 belly הַדָּגָֽה׃ H1710 out of the fish's

² וַיֹּ֗אמֶר H559 And said קָ֠רָאתִי H7121 I cried מִצָּ֥רָה H6869 by reason of mine affliction לִ֛י H0 אֶל־ H413 to יְהוָ֖ה H3068 unto the LORD וַֽיַּעֲנֵ֑נִי H6030 and he heard מִבֶּ֧טֶן H990 me out of the belly שְׁא֛וֹל H7585 of hell שִׁוַּ֖עְתִּי H7768 cried שָׁמַ֥עְתָּ H8085 I thou heardest קוֹלִֽי׃ H6963 my voice

³ וַתַּשְׁלִיכֵ֤נִי H7993 For thou hadst cast מְצוּלָה֙ H4688 me into the deep בִּלְבַ֣ב H3824 in the midst יַמִּ֔ים H3220 of the seas וְנָהָ֖ר H5104 and the floods יְסֹבְבֵ֑נִי H5437 compassed כָּל־ H3605 All מִשְׁבָּרֶ֥יךָ H4867 me about all thy billows וְגַלֶּ֖יךָ H1530 and thy waves עָלַ֥י H5921 over עָבָֽרוּ׃ H5674 passed over

⁴ וַאֲנִ֣י H589 I אָמַ֔רְתִּי H559 Then I said נִגְרַ֖שְׁתִּי H1644 I am cast out מִנֶּ֣גֶד H5048 from עֵינֶ֑יךָ H5869 of thy sight אַ֚ךְ H389 Nevertheless אוֹסִ֣יף H3254 again לְהַבִּ֔יט H5027 yet I will look אֶל־ H413 toward הֵיכַ֖ל H1964 temple קָדְשֶֽׁךָ׃ H6944 toward thy holy

⁵ אֲפָפ֤וּנִי H661 compassed me about מַ֙יִם֙ H4325 The waters עַד־ H5704 to the point נֶ֔פֶשׁ H5315 to the soul תְּה֖וֹם H8415 the depth יְסֹבְבֵ֑נִי H5437 closed me round about ס֖וּף H5488 the weeds חָב֥וּשׁ H2280 were wrapped about לְרֹאשִֽׁי׃ H7218 my head

⁶ לְקִצְבֵ֤י H7095 to the bottoms הָרִים֙ H2022 of the mountains יָרַ֔דְתִּי H3381 I went down הָאָ֛רֶץ H776 the earth בְּרִחֶ֥יהָ H1280 with her bars בַעֲדִ֖י H1157 around לְעוֹלָ֑ם H5769 about me for ever וַתַּ֧עַל H5927 yet hast thou brought up מִשַּׁ֛חַת H7845 from corruption חַיַּ֖י H2416 my life יְהוָ֥ה H3068 O LORD אֱלֹהָֽי׃ H430 my God

⁷ בְּהִתְעַטֵּ֤ף H5848 fainted עָלַי֙ H5921 When נַפְשִׁ֔י H5315 When my soul אֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֖ה H3069 God זָכָ֑רְתִּי H2142 within me I remembered וַתָּב֤וֹא H935 came in אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ H413 and תְּפִלָּתִ֔י H8605 and my prayer אֶל־ H413 about הֵיכַ֖ל H1964 temple קָדְשֶֽׁךָ׃ H6944 unto thee into thine holy

⁸ מְשַׁמְּרִ֖ים H8104 They that observe הַבְלֵי־ H1892 vanities שָׁ֑וְא H7723 lying חַסְדָּ֖ם H2617 their own mercy יַעֲזֹֽבוּ׃ H5800 forsake

⁹ וַאֲנִ֗י H589 I בְּק֤וֹל H6963 unto thee with the voice תּוֹדָה֙ H8426 of thanksgiving אֶזְבְּחָה־ H2076 But I will sacrifice לָּ֔ךְ H0 אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which נָדַ֖רְתִּי H5087 that I have vowed אֲשַׁלֵּ֑מָה H7999 I will pay יְשׁוּעָ֖תָה H3444 Salvation לַיהוָֽה׃ H3068 of the LORD ס

¹⁰ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר H559 spake יְהוָ֖ה H3068 And the LORD לַדָּ֑ג H1709 unto the fish וַיָּקֵ֥א H6958 and it vomited out אֶת־ H853 יוֹנָ֖ה H3124 Jonah אֶל־ H413 onto הַיַּבָּשָֽׁה׃ H3004 upon the dry פ

¹ וַיְהִ֧י H1961 came דְבַר־ H1697 And the word יְהוָ֛ה H3068 of the LORD אֶל־ H413 to יוֹנָ֖ה H3124 came unto Jonah שֵׁנִ֥ית H8145 the second לֵאמֹֽר׃ H559 time saying

² ק֛וּם H6965 Arise לֵ֥ךְ H1980 go אֶל־ H413 to נִֽינְוֵ֖ה H5210 unto Nineveh הָעִ֣יר H5892 city הַגְּדוֹלָ֑ה H1419 that great וִּקְרָ֤א H7121 and preach אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ H413 about אֶת־ H853 הַקְּרִיאָ֔ה H7150 unto it the preaching אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which אָנֹכִ֖י H595 I דֹּבֵ֥ר H1696 that I bid אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ H413 about

³ וַיָּ֣קָם H6965 arose יוֹנָ֗ה H3124 So Jonah וַיֵּ֛לֶךְ H1980 and went אֶל־ H413 to נִֽינְוֶ֖ה H5210 unto Nineveh כִּדְבַ֣ר H1697 according to the word יְהוָ֑ה H3068 of the LORD וְנִֽינְוֵ֗ה H5210 Now Nineveh הָיְתָ֤ה H1961 become עִיר־ H5892 city גְּדוֹלָה֙ H1419 great לֵֽאלֹהִ֔ים H430 was an exceeding מַהֲלַ֖ךְ H4109 journey שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת H7969 of three יָמִֽים׃ H3117 days'

⁴ וַיָּ֤חֶל H2490 began יוֹנָה֙ H3124 And Jonah לָב֣וֹא H935 to enter בָעִ֔יר H5892 into the city מַהֲלַ֖ךְ H4109 journey י֣וֹם H3117 day's אֶחָ֑ד H259 a וַיִּקְרָא֙ H7121 and he cried וַיֹּאמַ֔ר H559 and said ע֚וֹד H5750 Yet אַרְבָּעִ֣ים H705 Yet forty י֔וֹם H3117 days וְנִֽינְוֵ֖ה H5210 and Nineveh נֶהְפָּֽכֶת׃ H2015 shall be overthrown

⁵ וַֽיַּאֲמִ֛ינוּ H539 believed אַנְשֵׁ֥י H376 the people נִֽינְוֵ֖ה H5210 of Nineveh בֵּֽאלֹהִ֑ים H430 God וַיִּקְרְאוּ־ H7121 and proclaimed צוֹם֙ H6685 a fast וַיִּלְבְּשׁ֣וּ H3847 and put שַׂקִּ֔ים H8242 on sackcloth מִגְּדוֹלָ֖ם H1419 from the greatest וְעַד־ H5704 against קְטַנָּֽם׃ H6996 of them even to the least

⁶ וַיִּגַּ֤ע H5060 came הַדָּבָר֙ H1697 For word אֶל־ H413 about מֶ֣לֶך H4428 unto the king נִֽינְוֵ֔ה H5210 of Nineveh וַיָּ֙קָם֙ H6965 and he arose מִכִּסְא֔וֹ H3678 from his throne וַיַּעֲבֵ֥ר H5674 and he laid אַדַּרְתּ֖וֹ H155 his robe מֵֽעָלָ֑יו H5921 and וַיְכַ֣ס H3680 from him and covered שַׂ֔ק H8242 with sackcloth וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב H3427 and sat עַל־ H5921 on הָאֵֽפֶר׃ H665 in ashes

⁷ וַיַּזְעֵ֗ק H2199 And he caused to be proclaimed וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 and published בְּנִֽינְוֵ֔ה H5210 through Nineveh מִטַּ֧עַם H2940 by the decree הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ H4428 of the king וּגְדֹלָ֖יו H1419 and his nobles לֵאמֹ֑ר H559 saying הָאָדָ֨ם H120 Let neither man וְהַבְּהֵמָ֜ה H929 nor beast הַבָּקָ֣ר H1241 herd וְהַצֹּ֗אן H6629 nor flock אַֽל־ H408 nay יִטְעֲמוּ֙ H2938 taste מְא֔וּמָה H3972 any thing אַ֨ל־ H408 not יִרְע֔וּ H7462 let them not feed וּמַ֖יִם H4325 water אַל־ H408 not יִשְׁתּֽוּ׃ H8354 nor drink

⁸ וְיִתְכַּסּ֣וּ H3680 be covered שַׂקִּ֗ים H8242 with sackcloth הָֽאָדָם֙ H120 But let man וְהַבְּהֵמָ֔ה H929 and beast וְיִקְרְא֥וּ H7121 and cry אֶל־ H413 on אֱלֹהִ֖ים H430 unto God בְּחָזְקָ֑ה H2394 mightily וְיָשֻׁ֗בוּ H7725 yea let them turn אִ֚ישׁ H376 every one מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹ H1870 way הָֽרָעָ֔ה H7451 from his evil וּמִן־ H4480 and from הֶחָמָ֖ס H2555 and from the violence אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which בְּכַפֵּיהֶֽם׃ H3709 that in their hands

⁹ מִֽי־ H4310 Who יוֹדֵ֣עַ H3045 Who can tell יָשׁ֔וּב H7725 will turn וְנִחַ֖ם H5162 and repent הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים H430 God וְשָׁ֛ב H7725 and turn away מֵחֲר֥וֹן H2740 from his fierce אַפּ֖וֹ H639 anger וְלֹ֥א H3808 we will not נֹאבֵֽד׃ H6 that we perish

¹⁰ וַיַּ֤רְא H7200 saw הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ H430 And God אֶֽת־ H853 מַ֣עֲשֵׂיהֶ֔ם H4639 their works כִּי־ H3588 for שָׁ֖בוּ H7725 that they turned מִדַּרְכָּ֣ם H1870 way הָרָעָ֑ה H7451 from their evil וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם H5162 repented הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים H430 and God עַל־ H5921 concerning הָרָעָ֛ה H7451 of the evil אֲשֶׁר־ H834 which דִּבֶּ֥ר H1696 that he had said לַעֲשׂוֹת־ H6213 that he would do לָהֶ֖ם H1992 like וְלֹ֥א H3808 did not עָשָֽׂה׃ H6213 unto them and he did

¹ וַיֵּ֥רַע H7489 displeased אֶל־ H413 about יוֹנָ֖ה H3124 Jonah רָעָ֣ה H7451 adversity גְדוֹלָ֑ה H1419 greatly וַיִּ֖חַר H2734 and he was very angry לֽוֹ׃ H0

² וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֨ל H6419 And he prayed אֶל־ H413 about יְהוָ֜ה H3069 God וַיֹּאמַ֗ר H559 and said אָנָּ֤ה H577 I pray יְהוָה֙ H3069 God הֲלוֹא־ H3808 was not זֶ֣ה H2088 this דְבָרִ֗י H1697 not this my saying עַד־ H5704 while הֱיוֹתִי֙ H1961 become עַל־ H5921 concerning אַדְמָתִ֔י H127 land עַל־ H5921 concerning כֵּ֥ן H3651 order קִדַּ֖מְתִּי H6923 before לִבְרֹ֣חַ H1272 fled תַּרְשִׁ֑ישָׁה H8659 unto Tarshish כִּ֣י H3588 for יָדַ֗עְתִּי H3045 for I knew כִּ֤י H3588 for אַתָּה֙ H859 you אֵֽל־ H410 God חַנּ֣וּן H2587 that thou a gracious וְרַח֔וּם H7349 and merciful אֶ֤רֶךְ H750 slow אַפַּ֙יִם֙ H639 to anger וְרַב־ H7227 and of great חֶ֔סֶד H2617 kindness וְנִחָ֖ם H5162 and repentest עַל־ H5921 concerning הָרָעָֽה׃ H7451 thee of the evil

³ וְעַתָּ֣ה H6258 now יְהוָ֔ה H3068 Therefore now O LORD קַח־ H3947 take נָ֥א H4994 please אֶת־ H853 נַפְשִׁ֖י H5315 I beseech thee my life מִמֶּ֑נִּי H4480 than כִּ֛י H3588 for ט֥וֹב H2896 from me for better מוֹתִ֖י H4194 for me to die מֵחַיָּֽי׃ H2416 than to live ס

⁴ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 Then said יְהוָ֔ה H3068 the LORD הַהֵיטֵ֖ב H3190 Doest thou well חָ֥רָה H2734 to be angry לָֽךְ׃ H0

⁵ וַיֵּצֵ֤א H3318 went out יוֹנָה֙ H3124 So Jonah מִן־ H4480 from הָעִ֔יר H5892 of the city וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב H3427 and sat מִקֶּ֣דֶם H6924 on the east side לָעִ֑יר H5892 of the city וַיַּעַשׂ֩ H6213 and there made ל֨וֹ H0 שָׁ֜ם H8033 There סֻכָּ֗ה H5521 him a booth וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב H3427 and sat תַּחְתֶּ֙יהָ֙ H8478 under בַּצֵּ֔ל H6738 under it in the shadow עַ֚ד H5704 against אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 he יִרְאֶ֔ה H7200 till he might see מַה־ H4100 what יִּהְיֶ֖ה H1961 happen בָּעִֽיר׃ H5892 what would become of the city

⁶ וַיְמַ֣ן H4487 prepared יְהוָֽה־ H3068 And the LORD אֱ֠לֹהִים H430 God קִיקָי֞וֹן H7021 a gourd וַיַּ֣עַל ׀ H5927 and made to come up מֵעַ֣ל H5921 over לְיוֹנָ֗ה H3124 over Jonah לִֽהְי֥וֹת H1961 to be a צֵל֙ H6738 that it might be a shadow עַל־ H5921 about רֹאשׁ֔וֹ H7218 over his head לְהַצִּ֥יל H5337 to deliver ל֖וֹ H0 מֵרָֽעָת֑וֹ H7451 him from his grief וַיִּשְׂמַ֥ח H8055 glad יוֹנָ֛ה H3124 So Jonah עַל־ H5921 over הַקִּֽיקָי֖וֹן H7021 of the gourd שִׂמְחָ֥ה H8056 glad גְדוֹלָֽה׃ H1419 aloud

⁷ וַיְמַ֤ן H4487 prepared הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ H430 But God תּוֹלַ֔עַת H8438 a worm בַּעֲל֥וֹת H5927 rose הַשַּׁ֖חַר H7837 when the morning לַֽמָּחֳרָ֑ת H4283 the next day וַתַּ֥ךְ H5221 and it smote אֶת־ H853 הַקִּֽיקָי֖וֹן H7021 the gourd וַיִּיבָֽשׁ׃ H3001 that it withered

⁸ וַיְהִ֣י ׀ H1961 become כִּזְרֹ֣חַ H2224 did arise הַשֶּׁ֗מֶשׁ H8121 And it came to pass when the sun וַיְמַ֨ן H4487 prepared אֱלֹהִ֜ים H430 that God ר֤וּחַ H7307 wind קָדִים֙ H6921 east חֲרִישִׁ֔ית H2759 a vehement וַתַּ֥ךְ H5221 beat הַשֶּׁ֛מֶשׁ H8121 and the sun עַל־ H5921 and רֹ֥אשׁ H7218 upon the head יוֹנָ֖ה H3124 of Jonah וַיִּתְעַלָּ֑ף H5968 that he fainted וַיִּשְׁאַ֤ל H7592 and wished אֶת־ H853 נַפְשׁוֹ֙ H5315 in himself לָמ֔וּת H4191 to die וַיֹּ֕אמֶר H559 and said ט֥וֹב H2896 better מוֹתִ֖י H4191 to die מֵחַיָּֽי׃ H2416 than to live

⁹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר H559 said אֱלֹהִים֙ H430 And God אֶל־ H413 to יוֹנָ֔ה H3124 to Jonah הַהֵיטֵ֥ב H3190 Doest thou well חָרָֽה־ H2734 to be angry לְךָ֖ H0 עַל־ H5921 about הַקִּֽיקָי֑וֹן H7021 gourd וַיֹּ֕אמֶר H559 said הֵיטֵ֥ב H3190 I do well חָֽרָה־ H2734 to be angry לִ֖י H0 עַד־ H5704 even מָֽוֶת׃ H4194 unto death

¹⁰ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 Then said יְהוָ֔ה H3068 the LORD אַתָּ֥ה H859 You חַ֙סְתָּ֙ H2347 Thou hast had pity עַל־ H5921 on הַקִּ֣יקָי֔וֹן H7021 on the gourd אֲשֶׁ֛ר H834 which לֹא־ H3808 did not עָמַ֥לְתָּ H5998 for the which thou hast not laboured בּ֖וֹ H0 וְלֹ֣א H3808 cause גִדַּלְתּ֑וֹ H1431 neither madest it grow שֶׁבִּן־ H1121 afflicted לַ֥יְלָה H3915 night הָיָ֖ה H1961 came וּבִן־ H1121 afflicted לַ֥יְלָה H3915 night אָבָֽד׃ H6 and perished

¹¹ וַֽאֲנִי֙ H589 I לֹ֣א H3808 not אָח֔וּס H2347 And should not I spare עַל־ H5921 and נִינְוֵ֖ה H5210 Nineveh הָעִ֣יר H5892 city הַגְּדוֹלָ֑ה H1419 that great אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 who יֶשׁ־ H3426 wherein are בָּ֡הּ H0 הַרְבֵּה֩ H7235 more מִֽשְׁתֵּים־ H8147 both עֶשְׂרֵ֨ה H6240 ten רִבּ֜וֹ H7239 thousand אָדָ֗ם H120 persons אֲשֶׁ֤ר H834 who לֹֽא־ H3808 not יָדַע֙ H3045 that cannot discern בֵּין־ H996 between יְמִינ֣וֹ H3225 between their right hand לִשְׂמֹאל֔וֹ H8040 and their left hand וּבְהֵמָ֖ה H929 beast רַבָּֽה׃ H7227 and much
