⁶ כְּעַ֡ן H3705 Now תַּ֠תְּנַי H8674 Tattenai פַּחַ֨ת H6347 Tatnai governor עֲבַֽר־ H5675 beyond נַהֲרָ֜ה H5103 the river שְׁתַ֤ר H0 בּוֹזְנַי֙ H8370 Shetharboznai וּכְנָוָ֣תְה֔וֹן H3675 and your companions אֲפַרְסְכָיֵ֔א H671 the Apharsachites דִּ֖י H1768 of בַּעֲבַ֣ר H5675 which beyond נַהֲרָ֑ה H5103 the river רַחִיקִ֥ין H7352 far הֲו֖וֹ H1934 be ye מִן־ H4481 from תַּמָּֽה׃ H8536 thence

⁷ שְׁבֻ֕קוּ H7662 alone לַעֲבִידַ֖ת H5673 Let the work בֵּית־ H1005 house אֱלָהָ֣א H426 of God דֵ֑ךְ H1791 of this פַּחַ֤ת H6347 let the governor יְהוּדָיֵא֙ H3062 of the Jews וּלְשָׂבֵ֣י H7868 and the elders יְהוּדָיֵ֔א H3062 of the Jews בֵּית־ H1005 house אֱלָהָ֥א H426 of God דֵ֖ךְ H1791 this יִבְנ֥וֹן H1124 build עַל־ H5922 in אַתְרֵֽהּ׃ H870 his place

⁸ וּמִנִּי֮ H4481 Moreover I שִׂ֣ים H7761 make טְעֵם֒ H2942 a decree לְמָ֣א H3964 what דִֽי־ H1768 of תַֽעַבְד֗וּן H5648 ye shall do עִם־ H5974 to שָׂבֵ֤י H7868 the elders יְהוּדָיֵא֙ H3062 Jews אִלֵּ֔ךְ H479 of these לְמִבְנֵ֖א H1124 for the building בֵּית־ H1005 house אֱלָהָ֣א H426 of God דֵ֑ךְ H1791 of this וּמִנִּכְסֵ֣י H5232 goods מַלְכָּ֗א H4430 that of the king's דִּ֚י H1768 out מִדַּת֙ H4061 the tribute עֲבַ֣ר H5675 beyond נַהֲרָ֔ה H5103 the river אָסְפַּ֗רְנָא H629 forthwith נִפְקְתָ֛א H5313 expenses תֶּהֱוֵ֧א H1934 be מִֽתְיַהֲבָ֛א H3052 given לְגֻבְרַיָּ֥א H1400 men אִלֵּ֖ךְ H479 unto these דִּי־ H1768 and that לָ֥א H3809 that they be not לְבַטָּלָֽא׃ H989 hindered

¹⁴ וְשָׂבֵ֤י H7868 And the elders יְהוּדָיֵא֙ H3062 of the Jews בָּנַ֣יִן H1124 builded וּמַצְלְחִ֔ין H6744 and they prospered בִּנְבוּאַת֙ H5017 through the prophesying חַגַּ֣י H2292 of Haggai <נְבִיאָה כ> (נְבִיָּ֔א H5029 prophet ק) וּזְכַרְיָ֖ה H2148 and Zechariah בַּר־ H1247 the son עִדּ֑וֹא H5714 of Iddo וּבְנ֣וֹ H1124 And they builded וְשַׁכְלִ֗לוּ H3635 and finished מִן־ H4481 according טַ֙עַם֙ H2941 to the commandment אֱלָ֣הּ H426 of the God יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3479 of Israel וּמִטְּעֵם֙ H2942 and according to the commandment כּ֣וֹרֶשׁ H3567 of Cyrus וְדָרְיָ֔וֶשׁ H1868 and Darius וְאַרְתַּחְשַׁ֖שְׂתְּא H783 and Artaxerxes מֶ֥לֶךְ H4430 king פָּרָֽס׃ H6540 of Persia

¹⁵ וְשֵׁיצִיא֙ H3319 was finished בַּיְתָ֣ה H1005 house דְנָ֔ה H1836 And this עַ֛ד H5705 on י֥וֹם H3118 day תְּלָתָ֖ה H8532 the third לִירַ֣ח H3393 of the month אֲדָ֑ר H144 Adar דִּי־ H1768 forasmuch הִ֣יא H1932 which was שְׁנַת־ H8140 year שֵׁ֔ת H8353 in the sixth לְמַלְכ֖וּת H4437 of the reign דָּרְיָ֥וֶשׁ H1868 of Darius מַלְכָּֽא׃ H4430 the king פ

¹⁵ וּלְהֵיבָלָ֖ה H2987 And to carry כְּסַ֣ף H3702 the silver וּדְהַ֑ב H1722 and gold דִּֽי־ H1768 whose מַלְכָּ֣א H4430 which the king וְיָעֲט֗וֹהִי H3272 and his counsellors הִתְנַדַּ֙בוּ֙ H5069 have freely offered לֶאֱלָ֣הּ H426 unto the God יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3479 of Israel דִּ֥י H1768 whose בִֽירוּשְׁלֶ֖ם H3390 in Jerusalem מִשְׁכְּנֵֽהּ׃ H4907 habitation

¹⁸ וּמָ֣ה H4101 Whatever דִי֩ H1768 forasmuch <עֲלַיִךְ כ> (עֲלָ֨ךְ H5921 and ק) וְעַל־ H5922 to thee and to <אֶחַיִךְ כ> (אֶחָ֜ךְ H252 brother ק) יִיטַ֗ב H3191 shall seem good בִּשְׁאָ֛ר H7606 with the rest כַּסְפָּ֥א H3702 of the silver וְדַהֲבָ֖ה H1722 and the gold לְמֶעְבַּ֑ד H5648 to do כִּרְע֥וּת H7470 after the will אֱלָהֲכֹ֖ם H426 of your God תַּעַבְדֽוּן׃ H5648 that do

²² עַד־ H5705 Unto כְּסַף֮ H3702 of silver כַּכְּרִ֣ין H3604 talents מְאָה֒ H3969 an hundred וְעַד־ H5705 until חִנְטִין֙ H2591 of wheat כֹּרִ֣ין H3734 measures מְאָ֔ה H3969 and to an hundred וְעַד־ H5705 until חֲמַר֙ H2562 of wine בַּתִּ֣ין H1325 baths מְאָ֔ה H3969 and to an hundred וְעַד־ H5705 until בַּתִּ֥ין H1325 baths מְשַׁ֖ח H4887 of oil מְאָ֑ה H3969 and to an hundred וּמְלַ֖ח H4416 and salt דִּי־ H1768 forasmuch לָ֥א H3809 without כְתָֽב׃ H3792 prescribing

²³ כָּל־ H3606 Whatsoever דִּ֗י H1768 for מִן־ H4481 according טַ֙עַם֙ H2941 account אֱלָ֣הּ H426 the God שְׁמַיָּ֔א H8065 of heaven יִתְעֲבֵד֙ H5648 done אַדְרַזְדָּ֔א H149 let it be diligently לְבֵ֖ית H1005 for the house אֱלָ֣הּ H426 of the God שְׁמַיָּ֑א H8065 of heaven דִּֽי־ H1768 so לְמָ֤ה H4101 why לֶֽהֱוֵא֙ H1934 should there be קְצַ֔ף H7109 wrath עַל־ H5922 against מַלְכ֥וּת H4437 the realm מַלְכָּ֖א H4430 of the king וּבְנֽוֹהִי׃ H1123 and his sons

²⁴ וּלְכֹ֣ם H0 מְהוֹדְעִ֗ין H3046 Also we certify דִּ֣י H1768 forasmuch כָל־ H3606 you that touching any כָּהֲנַיָּ֣א H3549 of the priests וְ֠לֵוָיֵא H3879 and Levites זַמָּ֨רַיָּ֤א H2171 singers תָרָֽעַיָּא֙ H8652 porters נְתִ֣ינַיָּ֔א H5412 Nethinims וּפָ֣לְחֵ֔י H6399 or ministers בֵּ֖ית H1005 house אֱלָהָ֣א H426 of God דְנָ֑ה H1836 of this מִנְדָּ֤ה H4061 toll בְלוֹ֙ H1093 tribute וַהֲלָ֔ךְ H1983 or custom לָ֥א H3809 it shall not שַׁלִּ֖יט H7990 be lawful לְמִרְמֵ֥א H7412 to impose עֲלֵיהֹֽם׃ H5922 upon

²⁵ וְאַ֣נְתְּ H607 And thou עֶזְרָ֗א H5831 Ezra כְּחָכְמַ֨ת H2452 after the wisdom אֱלָהָ֤ךְ H426 of thy God דִּֽי־ H1768 which בִידָךְ֙ H3028 that in thine hand מֶ֣נִּי H4483 set שָׁפְטִ֞ין H8200 magistrates וְדַיָּנִ֗ין H1782 and judges דִּי־ H1768 who לֶהֱוֹ֤ן H1934 become <דָּאֲנִין כ> (דָּאיְנִין֙ H1778 judge ק) לְכָל־ H3606 all עַמָּה֙ H5972 the people דִּ֚י H1768 who בַּעֲבַ֣ר H5675 that beyond נַהֲרָ֔ה H5103 the river לְכָל־ H3606 all יָדְעֵ֖י H3046 such as know דָּתֵ֣י H1882 the laws אֱלָהָ֑ךְ H426 of thy God וְדִ֧י H1768 who לָ֦א H3809 not יָדַ֖ע H3046 and teach תְּהוֹדְעֽוּן׃ H3046 ye them that know

²⁶ וְכָל־ H3606 And whosoever דִּי־ H1768 forasmuch לָא֩ H3809 will not לֶהֱוֵ֨א H1934 be עָבֵ֜ד H5648 executed דָּתָ֣א H1882 the law דִֽי־ H1768 forasmuch אֱלָהָ֗ךְ H426 of thy God וְדָתָא֙ H1882 and the law דִּ֣י H1768 forasmuch מַלְכָּ֔א H4430 of the king אָסְפַּ֕רְנָא H629 speedily דִּינָ֕ה H1780 let judgment לֶהֱוֵ֥א H1934 become מִתְעֲבֵ֖ד H5648 be executed מִנֵּ֑הּ H4481 upon him הֵ֤ן H2006 whether לְמוֹת֙ H4193 unto death הֵ֣ן H2006 or <לִשְׁרֹשׁוּ כ> (לִשְׁרֹשִׁ֔י H8332 banishment ק) הֵן־ H2006 or לַעֲנָ֥שׁ H6065 to confiscation נִכְסִ֖ין H5232 of goods וְלֶאֱסוּרִֽין׃ H613 or to imprisonment פ

²⁷ בָּר֥וּךְ H1288 Blessed יְהוָ֖ה H3068 the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 God אֲבוֹתֵ֑ינוּ H1 of our fathers אֲשֶׁ֨ר H834 who נָתַ֤ן H5414 which hath put כָּזֹאת֙ H2063 likewise בְּלֵ֣ב H3820 heart הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ H4428 as this in the king's לְפָאֵ֕ר H6286 to beautify אֶת־ H853 בֵּ֥ית H1004 the house יְהוָ֖ה H3068 of the LORD אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 which in Jerusalem

²⁸ וְעָלַ֣י H5921 and has הִטָּה־ H5186 And hath extended חֶ֗סֶד H2617 mercy לִפְנֵ֤י H6440 unto me before הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ H4428 the king וְיֽוֹעֲצָ֔יו H3289 and his counsellors וּלְכָל־ H3605 all שָׂרֵ֥י H8269 princes הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ H4428 and before all the king's הַגִּבֹּרִ֑ים H1368 mighty וַאֲנִ֣י H589 I הִתְחַזַּ֗קְתִּי H2388 And I was strengthened כְּיַד־ H3027 as the hand יְהוָ֤ה H3068 of the LORD אֱלֹהַי֙ H430 my God עָלַ֔י H5921 upon וָאֶקְבְּצָ֧ה H6908 upon me and I gathered together מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֛ל H3478 out of Israel רָאשִׁ֖ים H7218 chief men לַעֲל֥וֹת H5927 to go up עִמִּֽי׃ H5973 with פ

²¹ וָאֶקְרָ֨א H7121 Then I proclaimed שָׁ֥ם H8033 there צוֹם֙ H6685 a fast עַל־ H5921 at הַנָּהָ֣ר H5104 there at the river אַהֲוָ֔א H163 of Ahava לְהִתְעַנּ֖וֹת H6031 that we might afflict לִפְנֵ֣י H6440 ourselves before אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ H430 our God לְבַקֵּ֤שׁ H1245 to seek מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ H4480 at דֶּ֣רֶךְ H1870 way יְשָׁרָ֔ה H3477 of him a right לָ֥נוּ H0 וּלְטַפֵּ֖נוּ H2945 for us and for our little ones וּלְכָל־ H3605 and all רְכוּשֵֽׁנוּ׃ H7399 and for all our substance

²⁴ וָאַבְדִּ֛ילָה H914 Then I separated מִשָּׂרֵ֥י H8269 of the chief הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים H3548 of the priests שְׁנֵ֣ים H8147 both עָשָׂ֑ר H6240 ten לְשֵׁרֵֽבְיָ֣ה H8274 Sherebiah חֲשַׁבְיָ֔ה H2811 Hashabiah וְעִמָּהֶ֥ם H5973 with מֵאֲחֵיהֶ֖ם H251 of their brethren עֲשָׂרָֽה׃ H6235 and ten

²⁵ <וָאֶשְׁקֹולָה כ> (וָאֶשְׁקֳלָ֣ה H8254 pay ק) לָהֶ֔ם H1992 like אֶת־ H853 הַכֶּ֥סֶף H3701 unto them the silver וְאֶת־ H853 הַזָּהָ֖ב H2091 and the gold וְאֶת־ H853 הַכֵּלִ֑ים H3627 and the vessels תְּרוּמַ֣ת H8641 the offering בֵּית־ H1004 of the house אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ H430 of our God הַהֵרִ֙ימוּ֙ H7311 had offered הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ H4428 which the king וְיֹעֲצָ֣יו H3289 and his counsellors וְשָׂרָ֔יו H8269 and his lords וְכָל־ H3605 and all יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 and all Israel הַנִּמְצָאִֽים׃ H4672 present

²⁶ וָאֶשְׁקֲלָ֨ה H8254 I even weighed עַל־ H5921 unto יָדָ֜ם H3027 unto their hand כֶּ֗סֶף H3701 of silver כִּכָּרִים֙ H3603 talents שֵֽׁשׁ־ H8337 six מֵא֣וֹת H3967 hundred וַחֲמִשִּׁ֔ים H2572 and fifty וּכְלֵי־ H3627 vessels כֶ֥סֶף H3701 and silver מֵאָ֖ה H3967 an hundred לְכִכָּרִ֑ים H3603 talents זָהָ֖ב H2091 of gold מֵאָ֥ה H3967 an hundred כִכָּֽר׃ H3603 talents

²⁷ וּכְפֹרֵ֤י H3713 basons זָהָב֙ H2091 of gold עֶשְׂרִ֔ים H6242 Also twenty לַאֲדַרְכֹנִ֖ים H150 drams אָ֑לֶף H505 of a thousand וּכְלֵ֨י H3627 vessels נְחֹ֜שֶׁת H5178 copper מֻצְהָ֤ב H6668 shiny טוֹבָה֙ H2896 of fine שְׁנַ֔יִם H8147 and two חֲמוּדֹ֖ת H2532 precious כַּזָּהָֽב׃ H2091 as gold

²⁸ וָאֹמְרָ֣ה H559 And I said אֲלֵהֶ֗ם H413 about אַתֶּ֥ם H859 You קֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ H6944 unto them Ye holy לַיהוָ֔ה H3068 unto the LORD וְהַכֵּלִ֖ים H3627 the vessels קֹ֑דֶשׁ H6944 holy וְהַכֶּ֤סֶף H3701 also and the silver וְהַזָּהָב֙ H2091 and the gold נְדָבָ֔ה H5071 a freewill offering לַיהוָ֖ה H3068 unto the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֥י H430 God אֲבֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ H1 of your fathers

²⁹ שִׁקְד֣וּ H8245 Watch וְשִׁמְר֗וּ H8104 ye and keep עַֽד־ H5704 until תִּשְׁקְל֡וּ H8254 until ye weigh לִפְנֵי֩ H6440 before שָׂרֵ֨י H8269 the chief הַכֹּהֲנִ֧ים H3548 of the priests וְהַלְוִיִּ֛ם H3881 and the Levites וְשָׂרֵֽי־ H8269 and chief הָאָב֥וֹת H1 of the fathers לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 of Israel בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם H3389 at Jerusalem הַלִּשְׁכ֖וֹת H3957 in the chambers בֵּ֥ית H1004 of the house יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 of the LORD

³⁰ וְקִבְּלוּ֙ H6901 So took הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים H3548 the priests וְהַלְוִיִּ֔ם H3881 and the Levites מִשְׁקַ֛ל H4948 the weight הַכֶּ֥סֶף H3701 of the silver וְהַזָּהָ֖ב H2091 and the gold וְהַכֵּלִ֑ים H3627 and the vessels לְהָבִ֥יא H935 to bring לִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם H3389 to Jerusalem לְבֵ֥ית H1004 unto the house אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ H430 of our God פ

³¹ וַֽנִּסְעָ֞ה H5265 Then we departed מִנְּהַ֣ר H5104 from the river אַֽהֲוָ֗א H163 of Ahava בִּשְׁנֵ֤ים H8147 both עָשָׂר֙ H6240 ten לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ H2320 month הָרִאשׁ֔וֹן H7223 of the first לָלֶ֖כֶת H1980 to go יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם H3389 unto Jerusalem וְיַד־ H3027 and the hand אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ H430 of our God הָיְתָ֣ה H1961 become עָלֵ֔ינוּ H5921 was over וַיַּ֨צִּילֵ֔נוּ H5337 was upon us and he delivered מִכַּ֥ף H3709 us from the hand אוֹיֵ֛ב H341 of the enemy וְאוֹרֵ֖ב H693 and of such as lay in wait עַל־ H5921 was over הַדָּֽרֶךְ׃ H1870 by the way

² כִּֽי־ H3588 for נָשְׂא֣וּ H5375 For they have taken מִבְּנֹֽתֵיהֶ֗ם H1323 of their daughters לָהֶם֙ H1992 and for וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֔ם H1121 for themselves and for their sons וְהִתְעָֽרְבוּ֙ H6148 have mingled זֶ֣רַע H2233 seed הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ H6944 so that the holy בְּעַמֵּ֖י H5971 themselves with the people הָאֲרָצ֑וֹת H776 of lands וְיַ֧ד H3027 yea the hand הַשָּׂרִ֣ים H8269 of the princes וְהַסְּגָנִ֗ים H5461 and rulers הָ֥יְתָ֛ה H1961 have been בַּמַּ֥עַל H4604 in this trespass הַזֶּ֖ה H2088 this רִאשׁוֹנָֽה׃ H7223 hath been chief ס

³ וּכְשָׁמְעִי֙ H8085 And when I heard אֶת־ H853 הַדָּבָ֣ר H1697 this thing הַזֶּ֔ה H2088 this קָרַ֥עְתִּי H7167 I rent אֶת־ H853 בִּגְדִ֖י H899 my garment וּמְעִילִ֑י H4598 and my mantle וָאֶמְרְטָ֞ה H4803 and plucked off מִשְּׂעַ֤ר H8181 the hair רֹאשִׁי֙ H7218 of my head וּזְקָנִ֔י H2206 and of my beard וָאֵשְׁבָ֖ה H3427 and sat down מְשׁוֹמֵֽם׃ H8074 astonied

⁴ וְאֵלַ֣י H413 about יֵאָסְפ֗וּ H622 Then were assembled כֹּ֤ל H3605 everyone חָרֵד֙ H2730 unto me every one that trembled בְּדִבְרֵ֣י H1697 at the words אֱלֹהֵֽי־ H430 of the God יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel עַ֖ל H5921 account מַ֣עַל H4604 because of the transgression הַגּוֹלָ֑ה H1473 of those that had been carried away וַאֲנִי֙ H589 I יֹשֵׁ֣ב H3427 and I sat מְשׁוֹמֵ֔ם H8074 astonied עַ֖ד H5704 until לְמִנְחַ֥ת H4503 sacrifice הָעָֽרֶב׃ H6153 until the evening

⁵ וּבְמִנְחַ֣ת H4503 sacrifice הָעֶ֗רֶב H6153 And at the evening קַ֚מְתִּי H6965 I arose up מִתַּֽעֲנִיתִ֔י H8589 from my heaviness וּבְקָרְעִ֥י H7167 and having rent בִגְדִ֖י H899 my garment וּמְעִילִ֑י H4598 and my mantle וָֽאֶכְרְעָה֙ H3766 I fell עַל־ H5921 on בִּרְכַּ֔י H1290 upon my knees וָאֶפְרְשָׂ֥ה H6566 and spread out כַפַּ֖י H3709 my hands אֶל־ H413 to יְהוָ֥ה H3068 unto the LORD אֱלֹהָֽי׃ H430 my God

⁶ וָאֹמְרָ֗ה H559 And said אֱלֹהַי֙ H430 O my God בֹּ֣שְׁתִּי H954 I am ashamed וְנִכְלַ֔מְתִּי H3637 and blush לְהָרִ֧ים H7311 to lift up אֱלֹהַ֛י H430 to thee my God פָּנַ֖י H6440 my face אֵלֶ֑יךָ H413 about כִּ֣י H3588 for עֲוֹנֹתֵ֤ינוּ H5771 for our iniquities רָבוּ֙ H7235 are increased לְמַ֣עְלָה H4605 over רֹּ֔אשׁ H7218 head וְאַשְׁמָתֵ֥נוּ H819 and our trespass גָדְלָ֖ה H1431 is grown up עַ֥ד H5704 even לַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ H8064 unto the heavens

⁷ מִימֵ֣י H3117 Since the days אֲבֹתֵ֗ינוּ H1 of our fathers אֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙ H587 we בְּאַשְׁמָ֣ה H819 trespass גְדֹלָ֔ה H1419 we in a great עַ֖ד H5704 against הַיּ֣וֹם H3117 unto this day הַזֶּ֑ה H2088 to this וּבַעֲוֹנֹתֵ֡ינוּ H5771 and for our iniquities נִתַּ֡נּוּ H5414 been delivered אֲנַחְנוּ֩ H587 we מְלָכֵ֨ינוּ H4428 have we our kings כֹהֲנֵ֜ינוּ H3548 our priests בְּיַ֣ד ׀ H3027 into the hand מַלְכֵ֣י H4428 of the kings הָאֲרָצ֗וֹת H776 of the lands בַּחֶ֜רֶב H2719 to the sword בַּשְּׁבִ֧י H7628 to captivity וּבַבִּזָּ֛ה H961 and to a spoil וּבְבֹ֥שֶׁת H1322 and to confusion פָּנִ֖ים H6440 of face כְּהַיּ֥וֹם H3117 as this day הַזֶּֽה׃ H2088 this

⁸ וְעַתָּ֡ה H6258 now כִּמְעַט־ H4592 And now for a little רֶגַע֩ H7281 space הָיְתָ֨ה H1961 has been תְחִנָּ֜ה H8467 grace מֵאֵ֣ת ׀ H853 יְהוָ֣ה H3069 God אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ H430 our God לְהַשְׁאִ֥יר H7604 to leave לָ֙נוּ֙ H0 פְּלֵיטָ֔ה H6413 us a remnant to escape וְלָתֶת־ H5414 and to give לָ֥נוּ H0 יָתֵ֖ד H3489 us a nail בִּמְק֣וֹם H4725 place קָדְשׁ֑וֹ H6944 in his holy לְהָאִ֤יר H215 may lighten עֵינֵ֙ינוּ֙ H5869 our eyes אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ H430 that our God וּלְתִתֵּ֛נוּ H5414 and give מִֽחְיָ֥ה H4241 reviving מְעַ֖ט H4592 us a little בְּעַבְדֻתֵֽנוּ׃ H5659 in our bondage

¹⁰ וְעַתָּ֛ה H6258 Now מַה־ H4100 what נֹּאמַ֥ר H559 what shall we say אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ H430 And now O our God אַֽחֲרֵי־ H310 after זֹ֑את H2063 likewise כִּ֥י H3588 for עָזַ֖בְנוּ H5800 this? for we have forsaken מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ H4687 thy commandments

¹¹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 which צִוִּ֗יתָ H6680 Which thou hast commanded בְּיַ֨ד H3027 by עֲבָדֶ֣יךָ H5650 thy servants הַנְּבִיאִים֮ H5030 the prophets לֵאמֹר֒ H559 saying הָאָ֗רֶץ H776 The land אֲשֶׁ֨ר H834 which אַתֶּ֤ם H859 you בָּאִים֙ H935 unto which ye go לְרִשְׁתָּ֔הּ H3423 to possess אֶ֤רֶץ H776 land נִדָּה֙ H5079 it is an unclean הִ֔יא H1931 he בְּנִדַּ֖ת H5079 with the filthiness עַמֵּ֣י H5971 of the people הָאֲרָצ֑וֹת H776 of the lands בְּתוֹעֲבֹֽתֵיהֶ֗ם H8441 with their abominations אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which מִלְא֛וּהָ H4390 which have filled מִפֶּ֥ה H6310 it from one end אֶל־ H413 to פֶּ֖ה H6310 to another בְּטֻמְאָתָֽם׃ H2932 with their uncleanness

¹² וְ֠עַתָּה H6258 now בְּֽנוֹתֵיכֶ֞ם H1323 not your daughters אַל־ H408 nor תִּתְּנ֣וּ H5414 Now therefore give לִבְנֵיהֶ֗ם H1121 unto their sons וּבְנֹֽתֵיהֶם֙ H1323 their daughters אַל־ H408 nor תִּשְׂא֣וּ H5375 neither take לִבְנֵיכֶ֔ם H1121 unto your sons וְלֹֽא־ H3808 and never תִדְרְשׁ֧וּ H1875 nor seek שְׁלֹמָ֛ם H7965 their peace וְטוֹבָתָ֖ם H2896 or their wealth עַד־ H5704 for עוֹלָ֑ם H5769 ever לְמַ֣עַן H4616 that תֶּחֶזְק֗וּ H2388 that ye may be strong וַאֲכַלְתֶּם֙ H398 and eat אֶת־ H853 ט֣וּב H2898 the good הָאָ֔רֶץ H776 of the land וְהוֹרַשְׁתֶּ֥ם H3423 and leave for an inheritance לִבְנֵיכֶ֖ם H1121 to your children עַד־ H5704 for עוֹלָֽם׃ H5769 for ever

¹³ וְאַֽחֲרֵי֙ H310 And after כָּל־ H3605 all הַבָּ֣א H935 all that is come עָלֵ֔ינוּ H5921 and בְּמַעֲשֵׂ֙ינוּ֙ H4639 deeds הָרָעִ֔ים H7451 upon us for our evil וּבְאַשְׁמָתֵ֖נוּ H819 trespass הַגְּדֹלָ֑ה H1419 and for our great כִּ֣י ׀ H3588 since אַתָּ֣ה H859 You אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ H430 seeing that thou our God חָשַׂ֤כְתָּֽ H2820 hast punished לְמַ֙טָּה֙ H4295 us less מֵֽעֲוֹנֵ֔נוּ H5771 than our iniquities וְנָתַ֥תָּה H5414 and hast given לָּ֛נוּ H0 פְּלֵיטָ֖ה H6413 us deliverance כָּזֹֽאת׃ H2063 shall we

¹⁴ הֲנָשׁוּב֙ H7725 Should we again לְהָפֵ֣ר H6565 break מִצְוֹתֶ֔יךָ H4687 thy commandments וּ֨לְהִתְחַתֵּ֔ן H2859 and join in affinity בְּעַמֵּ֥י H5971 with the people הַתֹּעֵב֖וֹת H8441 Tolaites הָאֵ֑לֶּה H428 these הֲל֤וֹא H3808 not תֶֽאֱנַף־ H599 be angry בָּ֙נוּ֙ H0 עַד־ H5704 to the point כַּלֵּ֔ה H3615 with us till thou hadst consumed לְאֵ֥ין H369 there שְׁאֵרִ֖ית H7611 so that no remnant וּפְלֵיטָֽה׃ H6413 deliverance פ

¹ וּכְהִתְפַּלֵּ֤ל H6419 had prayed עֶזְרָא֙ H5830 Now when Ezra וּכְ֨הִתְוַדֹּת֔וֹ H3034 and when he had confessed בֹּכֶה֙ H1058 weeping וּמִתְנַפֵּ֔ל H5307 and casting himself down לִפְנֵ֖י H6440 before בֵּ֣ית H1004 the house הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים H430 of God נִקְבְּצוּ֩ H6908 there assembled אֵלָ֨יו H413 to him מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֜ל H3478 unto him out of Israel קָהָ֣ל H6951 congregation רַב־ H7227 great מְאֹ֗ד H3966 a very אֲנָשִׁ֤ים H582 of men וְנָשִׁים֙ H802 and women וִֽילָדִ֔ים H3206 and children כִּֽי־ H3588 for בָכ֥וּ H1058 wept הָעָ֖ם H5971 for the people הַרְבֵּה־ H7235 very בֶֽכֶה׃ H1059 sore ס

² וַיַּעַן֩ H6030 answered שְׁכַנְיָ֨ה H7935 And Shechaniah בֶן־ H1121 the son יְחִיאֵ֜ל H3171 of Jehiel מִבְּנֵ֤י H1121 of the sons <עֹולָם כ> (עֵילָם֙ H5867 Elam ק) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 and said לְעֶזְרָ֔א H5830 unto Ezra אֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙ H587 we מָעַ֣לְנוּ H4603 We have trespassed בֵאלֹהֵ֔ינוּ H430 against our God וַנֹּ֛שֶׁב H3427 and have taken נָשִׁ֥ים H802 wives נָכְרִיּ֖וֹת H5237 strange מֵעַמֵּ֣י H5971 of the people הָאָ֑רֶץ H776 of the land וְעַתָּ֛ה H6258 now יֵשׁ־ H3426 yet now there is מִקְוֶ֥ה H4723 hope לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 in Israel עַל־ H5921 spite זֹֽאת׃ H2063 So

³ וְעַתָּ֣ה H6258 now נִֽכְרָת־ H3772 Now therefore let us make בְּרִ֣ית H1285 a covenant לֵ֠אלֹהֵינוּ H430 with our God לְהוֹצִ֨יא H3318 to put away כָל־ H3605 all נָשִׁ֜ים H802 all the wives וְהַנּוֹלָ֤ד H3205 and such as are born מֵהֶם֙ H1992 according בַּעֲצַ֣ת H6098 of them according to the counsel אֲדֹנָ֔י H113 master וְהַחֲרֵדִ֖ים H2730 and of those that tremble בְּמִצְוַ֣ת H4687 at the commandment אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ H430 of our God וְכַתּוֹרָ֖ה H8451 according to the law יֵעָשֶֽׂה׃ H6213 and let it be done

⁴ ק֛וּם H6965 Arise כִּֽי־ H3588 for עָלֶ֥יךָ H5921 is your responsibility הַדָּבָ֖ר H1697 for matter וַאֲנַ֣חְנוּ H587 ourselves עִמָּ֑ךְ H5973 will be with חֲזַ֖ק H2388 unto thee we also with thee be of good courage וַעֲשֵֽׂה׃ H6213 and do פ

⁵ וַיָּ֣קָם H6965 Then arose עֶזְרָ֡א H5830 Ezra וַיַּשְׁבַּ֣ע H7650 to swear אֶת־ H853 שָׂרֵי֩ H8269 and made the chief הַכֹּהֲנִ֨ים H3548 priests הַלְוִיִּ֜ם H3881 the Levites וְכָל־ H3605 and all יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל H3478 and all Israel לַעֲשׂ֛וֹת H6213 that they should do כַּדָּבָ֥ר H1697 according to this word הַזֶּ֖ה H2088 to this וַיִּשָּׁבֵֽעוּ׃ H7650 And they sware

⁶ וַיָּ֣קָם H6965 rose up עֶזְרָ֗א H5830 Then Ezra מִלִּפְנֵי֙ H6440 from before בֵּ֣ית H1004 the house הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים H430 of God וַיֵּ֕לֶךְ H1980 and went אֶל־ H413 into לִשְׁכַּ֖ת H3957 into the chamber יְהוֹחָנָ֣ן H3076 of Johanan בֶּן־ H1121 the son אֶלְיָשִׁ֑יב H475 of Eliashib וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ H1980 went שָׁ֗ם H8033 there לֶ֤חֶם H3899 no bread לֹֽא־ H3808 nor אָכַל֙ H398 thither he did eat וּמַ֣יִם H4325 water לֹֽא־ H3808 nor שָׁתָ֔ה H8354 nor drink כִּ֥י H3588 for מִתְאַבֵּ֖ל H56 for he mourned עַל־ H5921 over מַ֥עַל H4604 because of the transgression הַגּוֹלָֽה׃ H1473 of them that had been carried away ס

⁷ וַיַּעֲבִ֨ירוּ H5674 made ק֜וֹל H6963 A proclamation בִּיהוּדָ֣ה H3063 throughout Judah וִירֽוּשָׁלִַ֗ם H3389 and Jerusalem לְכֹל֙ H3605 to all בְּנֵ֣י H1121 unto all the children הַגּוֹלָ֔ה H1473 of the captivity לְהִקָּבֵ֖ץ H6908 that they should gather themselves together יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 unto Jerusalem

⁸ וְכֹל֩ H3605 all אֲשֶׁ֨ר H834 after לֹֽא־ H3808 not יָב֜וֹא H935 And that whosoever would not come לִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת H7969 within three הַיָּמִ֗ים H3117 days כַּעֲצַ֤ת H6098 according to the counsel הַשָּׂרִים֙ H8269 of the princes וְהַזְּקֵנִ֔ים H2205 and the elders יָחֳרַ֖ם H2763 should be forfeited כָּל־ H3605 all רְכוּשׁ֑וֹ H7399 all his substance וְה֥וּא H1931 himself יִבָּדֵ֖ל H914 and himself separated מִקְּהַ֥ל H6951 from the congregation הַגּוֹלָֽה׃ H1473 of those that had been carried away ס

⁹ וַיִּקָּבְצ֣וּ H6908 gathered themselves together כָל־ H3605 all אַנְשֵֽׁי־ H376 the men יְהוּדָה֩ H3063 of Judah וּבִנְיָמִ֨ן ׀ H1144 and Benjamin יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם H3389 unto Jerusalem לִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת H7969 within three הַיָּמִ֗ים H3117 days ה֛וּא H1931 he חֹ֥דֶשׁ H2320 month הַתְּשִׁיעִ֖י H8671 It the ninth בְּעֶשְׂרִ֣ים H6242 on the twentieth בַּחֹ֑דֶשׁ H2320 of the month וַיֵּשְׁב֣וּ H3427 sat כָל־ H3605 and all הָעָ֗ם H5971 and all the people בִּרְחוֹב֙ H7339 in the street בֵּ֣ית H1004 of the house הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים H430 of God מַרְעִידִ֥ים H7460 trembling עַל־ H5921 because הַדָּבָ֖ר H1697 because of matter וּמֵהַגְּשָׁמִֽים׃ H1653 and for the great rain פ

¹⁰ וַיָּ֨קָם H6965 stood up עֶזְרָ֤א H5830 And Ezra הַכֹּהֵן֙ H3548 the priest וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 and said אֲלֵהֶ֔ם H413 about אַתֶּ֣ם H859 You מְעַלְתֶּ֔ם H4603 unto them Ye have transgressed וַתֹּשִׁ֖יבוּ H3427 and have taken נָשִׁ֣ים H802 wives נָכְרִיּ֑וֹת H5237 strange לְהוֹסִ֖יף H3254 to increase עַל־ H5921 unto אַשְׁמַ֥ת H819 the trespass יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ H3478 of Israel

¹¹ וְעַתָּ֗ה H6258 Now תְּנ֥וּ H5414 Now therefore make תוֹדָ֛ה H8426 confession לַיהוָ֥ה H3068 unto the LORD אֱלֹהֵֽי־ H430 God אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם H1 of your fathers וַעֲשׂ֣וּ H6213 and do רְצוֹנ֑וֹ H7522 his pleasure וְהִבָּֽדְלוּ֙ H914 and separate מֵעַמֵּ֣י H5971 yourselves from the people הָאָ֔רֶץ H776 of the land וּמִן־ H4480 at הַנָּשִׁ֖ים H802 wives הַנָּכְרִיּֽוֹת׃ H5237 and from the strange

¹² וַיַּֽעְנ֧וּ H6030 answered כָֽל־ H3605 all הַקָּהָ֛ל H6951 Then all the congregation וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ H559 and said ק֣וֹל H6963 voice גָּד֑וֹל H1419 with a loud כֵּ֛ן H3651 after that <כְּדִבְרֶיךָ כ> (כִּדְבָרְךָ֥ H1697 act ק) עָלֵ֖ינוּ H5921 is our duty לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ H6213 so must we do

¹³ אֲבָ֞ל H61 But הָעָ֥ם H5971 the people רָב֙ H7227 many וְהָעֵ֣ת H6256 and a time גְּשָׁמִ֔ים H1653 of much rain וְאֵ֥ין H369 are not כֹּ֖חַ H3581 and we are not able לַעֲמ֣וֹד H5975 to stand בַּח֑וּץ H2351 without וְהַמְּלָאכָ֗ה H4399 neither a work לֹֽא־ H3808 Nor לְי֤וֹם H3117 day אֶחָד֙ H259 of one וְלֹ֣א H3808 Nor לִשְׁנַ֔יִם H8147 or two כִּֽי־ H3588 for הִרְבִּ֥ינוּ H7235 for we are many לִפְשֹׁ֖עַ H6586 that have transgressed בַּדָּבָ֥ר H1697 in this thing הַזֶּֽה׃ H2088 this

¹⁴ יַֽעֲמְדוּ־ H5975 stand נָ֣א H4994 Let שָׂ֠רֵינוּ H8269 Let now our rulers לְֽכָל־ H3605 the whole הַקָּהָ֞ל H6951 of all the congregation וְכֹ֣ל ׀ H3605 all אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 those בֶּעָרֵ֗ינוּ H5892 in our cities הַהֹשִׁ֞יב H3427 and let all them which have taken נָשִׁ֤ים H802 wives נָכְרִיּוֹת֙ H5237 strange יָבֹא֙ H935 come לְעִתִּ֣ים H6256 times מְזֻמָּנִ֔ים H2163 at appointed וְעִמָּהֶ֛ם H5973 together זִקְנֵי־ H2205 and with them the elders עִ֥יר H5892 of every city וָעִ֖יר H5892 city וְשֹׁפְטֶ֑יהָ H8199 and the judges עַ֠ד H5704 until לְהָשִׁ֞יב H7725 be turned חֲר֤וֹן H2740 thereof until the fierce אַף־ H639 wrath אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ H430 of our God מִמֶּ֔נּוּ H4480 at עַ֖ד H5704 account לַדָּבָ֥ר H1697 for this matter הַזֶּֽה׃ H2088 of this פ
