¹ וַיָּבֹ֣א H935 was come רְחַבְעָם֮ H7346 And when Rehoboam יְרוּשָׁלִַם֒ H3389 to Jerusalem וַיַּקְהֵל֩ H6950 he gathered אֶת־ H853 בֵּ֨ית H1004 of the house יְהוּדָ֜ה H3063 of Judah וּבִנְיָמִ֗ן H1144 and Benjamin מֵאָ֨ה H3967 an hundred וּשְׁמוֹנִ֥ים H8084 and fourscore אֶ֛לֶף H505 thousand בָּח֖וּר H970 young עֹשֵׂ֣ה H6213 accomplish מִלְחָמָ֑ה H4421 were warriors לְהִלָּחֵם֙ H3898 to fight עִם־ H5973 against יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 against Israel לְהָשִׁ֥יב H7725 again אֶת־ H853 הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה H4467 the kingdom לִרְחַבְעָֽם׃ H7346 to Rehoboam פ

² וַיְהִי֙ H1961 came דְּבַר־ H1697 But the word יְהוָ֔ה H3069 God אֶל־ H413 to שְׁמַֽעְיָ֥הוּ H8098 came to Shemaiah אִישׁ־ H376 the man הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים H430 of God לֵאמֹֽר׃ H559 saying

³ אֱמֹ֕ר H559 Speak אֶל־ H413 to רְחַבְעָ֥ם H7346 unto Rehoboam בֶּן־ H1121 the son שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה H8010 of Solomon מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 king יְהוּדָ֑ה H3063 of Judah וְאֶל֙ H413 and to כָּל־ H3605 all יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 and to all Israel בִּיהוּדָ֥ה H3063 in Judah וּבִנְיָמִ֖ן H1144 and Benjamin לֵאמֹֽר׃ H559 saying

⁴ כֹּ֣ה H3541 Thus אָמַ֣ר H559 Thus saith יְהוָ֡ה H3068 the LORD לֹא־ H3808 shall not תַעֲלוּ֩ H5927 Ye shall not go up וְלֹא־ H3808 or תִלָּ֨חֲמ֜וּ H3898 nor fight עִם־ H5973 against אֲחֵיכֶ֗ם H251 against your brethren שׁ֚וּבוּ H7725 return אִ֣ישׁ H376 every man לְבֵית֔וֹ H1004 to his house כִּ֧י H3588 for מֵֽאִתִּ֛י H853 נִהְיָ֖ה H1961 is done הַדָּבָ֣ר H1697 for this thing הַזֶּ֑ה H2088 this וַֽיִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ H8085 of me And they obeyed אֶת־ H853 דִּבְרֵ֣י H1697 the words יְהוָ֔ה H3068 of the LORD וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ H7725 and returned מִלֶּ֥כֶת H1980 going אֶל־ H413 against יָרָבְעָֽם׃ H3379 against Jeroboam פ

⁵ וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב H3427 dwelt רְחַבְעָ֖ם H7346 And Rehoboam בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם H3389 in Jerusalem וַיִּ֧בֶן H1129 and built עָרִ֛ים H5892 cities לְמָצ֖וֹר H4692 for defence בִּיהוּדָֽה׃ H3063 in Judah

⁶ וַיִּ֧בֶן H1129 He built אֶת־ H853 בֵּֽית־ H0 לֶ֛חֶם H1035 even Bethlehem וְאֶת־ H853 עֵיטָ֖ם H5862 and Etam וְאֶת־ H853 תְּקֽוֹעַ׃ H8620 and Tekoa

⁷ וְאֶת־ H853 בֵּֽית־ H0 צ֥וּר H1049 And Bethzur וְאֶת־ H853 שׂוֹכ֖וֹ H7755 and Shoco וְאֶת־ H853 עֲדֻלָּֽם׃ H5725 and Adullam

⁸ וְאֶת־ H853 גַּ֥ת H1661 And Gath וְאֶת־ H853 מָרֵשָׁ֖ה H4762 and Mareshah וְאֶת־ H853 זִֽיף׃ H2128 and Ziph

⁹ וְאֶת־ H853 אֲדוֹרַ֥יִם H115 And Adoraim וְאֶת־ H853 לָכִ֖ישׁ H3923 and Lachish וְאֶת־ H853 עֲזֵקָֽה׃ H5825 and Azekah

¹⁰ וְאֶת־ H853 צָרְעָה֙ H6881 And Zorah וְאֶת־ H853 אַיָּל֔וֹן H357 and Aijalon וְאֶת־ H853 חֶבְר֔וֹן H2275 and Hebron אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which בִּיהוּדָ֖ה H3063 which in Judah וּבְבִנְיָמִ֑ן H1144 and in Benjamin עָרֵ֖י H5892 cities מְצֻרֽוֹת׃ H4694 fenced

¹¹ וַיְחַזֵּ֖ק H2388 And he fortified אֶת־ H853 הַמְּצֻר֑וֹת H4694 the strong holds וַיִּתֵּ֤ן H5414 and put בָּהֶם֙ H0 נְגִידִ֔ים H5057 captains וְאֹצְר֥וֹת H214 in them and store מַאֲכָ֖ל H3978 of victual וְשֶׁ֥מֶן H8081 and of oil וָיָֽיִן׃ H3196 and wine

¹² וּבְכָל־ H3605 every עִ֤יר H5892 And in every several city וָעִיר֙ H5892 city צִנּ֣וֹת H6793 shields וּרְמָחִ֔ים H7420 and spears וַֽיְחַזְּקֵ֖ם H2388 strong לְהַרְבֵּ֣ה H7235 abundance מְאֹ֑ד H3966 diligently וַיְהִי־ H1961 held ל֖וֹ H0 יְהוּדָ֥ה H3063 having Judah וּבִנְיָמִֽן׃ H1144 and Benjamin ס

¹³ וְהַכֹּהֲנִים֙ H3548 And the priests וְהַלְוִיִּ֔ם H3881 and the Levites אֲשֶׁ֖ר H834 who בְּכָל־ H3605 all יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 that in all Israel הִֽתְיַצְּב֥וּ H3320 resorted עָלָ֖יו H5921 with מִכָּל־ H3605 all גְּבוּלָֽם׃ H1366 to him out of all their coasts

¹⁴ כִּֽי־ H3588 for עָזְב֣וּ H5800 left הַלְוִיִּ֗ם H3881 For the Levites אֶת־ H853 מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶם֙ H4054 their suburbs וַאֲחֻזָּתָ֔ם H272 and their possession וַיֵּלְכ֥וּ H1980 and came לִיהוּדָ֖ה H3063 to Judah וְלִֽירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם H3389 and Jerusalem כִּֽי־ H3588 for הִזְנִיחָ֤ם H2186 had cast them off יָֽרָבְעָם֙ H3379 for Jeroboam וּבָנָ֔יו H1121 and his sons מִכַּהֵ֖ן H3547 from executing the priest's office לַיהוָֽה׃ H3068 unto the LORD

¹⁵ וַיַּֽעֲמֶד־ H5975 And he ordained לוֹ֙ H0 כֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים H3548 him priests לַבָּמ֖וֹת H1116 for the high places וְלַשְּׂעִירִ֑ים H8163 and for the devils וְלָעֲגָלִ֖ים H5695 and for the calves אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which עָשָֽׂה׃ H6213 which he had made

¹⁶ וְאַחֲרֵיהֶ֗ם H310 And after מִכֹּל֙ H3605 all שִׁבְטֵ֣י H7626 them out of all the tribes יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel הַנֹּֽתְנִים֙ H5414 such as set אֶת־ H853 לְבָבָ֔ם H3824 their hearts לְבַקֵּ֕שׁ H1245 to seek אֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֖ה H3068 the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 God יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 of Israel בָּ֚אוּ H935 came יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם H3389 to Jerusalem לִזְבּ֕וֹחַ H2076 to sacrifice לַיהוָ֖ה H3068 unto the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֥י H430 God אֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ H1 of their fathers

¹⁷ וַֽיְחַזְּקוּ֙ H2388 So they strengthened אֶת־ H853 מַלְכ֣וּת H4438 the kingdom יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah וַֽיְאַמְּצ֛וּ H553 strong אֶת־ H853 רְחַבְעָ֥ם H7346 and made Rehoboam בֶּן־ H1121 the son שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה H8010 of Solomon לְשָׁנִ֣ים H8141 years שָׁל֑וֹשׁ H7969 three כִּ֣י H3588 for הָֽלְכ֗וּ H1980 they walked בְּדֶ֧רֶךְ H1870 in the way דָּוִ֛יד H1732 of David וּשְׁלֹמֹ֖ה H8010 and Solomon לְשָׁנִ֥ים H8141 years שָׁלֽוֹשׁ׃ H7969 for three

¹⁸ וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ H3947 took ל֤וֹ H0 רְחַבְעָם֙ H7346 And Rehoboam אִשָּׁ֔ה H802 to wife אֶת־ H853 מָ֣חֲלַ֔ת H4258 him Mahalath <בֶּן כ> (בַּת־ H1121 the son יְרִימ֖וֹת H1323 the daughter ק) בֶּן־ H1121 the son דָּוִ֑יד H1732 of David אֲבִיהַ֕יִל H32 Abihail בַּת־ H1323 the daughter אֱלִיאָ֖ב H446 of Eliab בֶּן־ H1121 the son יִשָֽׁי׃ H3448 of Jesse

¹⁹ וַתֵּ֥לֶד H3205 Which bare ל֖וֹ H0 בָּנִ֑ים H1121 him children אֶת־ H853 יְע֥וּשׁ H3266 Jeush וְאֶת־ H853 שְׁמַרְיָ֖ה H8114 and Shamariah וְאֶת־ H853 זָֽהַם׃ H2093 and Zaham

²⁰ וְאַחֲרֶ֣יהָ H310 And after לָקַ֔ח H3947 her he took אֶֽת־ H853 מַעֲכָ֖ה H4601 Maachah בַּת־ H1323 the daughter אַבְשָׁל֑וֹם H53 of Absalom וַתֵּ֣לֶד H3205 which bare ל֗וֹ H0 אֶת־ H853 אֲבִיָּה֙ H29 him Abijah וְאֶת־ H853 עַתַּ֔י H6262 and Attai וְאֶת־ H853 זִיזָ֖א H2124 and Ziza וְאֶת־ H853 שְׁלֹמִֽית׃ H8019 and Shelomith

²¹ וַיֶּאֱהַ֨ב H157 loved רְחַבְעָ֜ם H7346 And Rehoboam אֶת־ H853 מַעֲכָ֣ה H4601 Maachah בַת־ H1323 the daughter אַבְשָׁל֗וֹם H53 of Absalom מִכָּל־ H3605 all נָשָׁיו֙ H802 above all his wives וּפִ֣ילַגְשָׁ֔יו H6370 and his concubines כִּ֠י H3588 for נָשִׁ֤ים H802 wives שְׁמוֹנֶֽה־ H8083 and eight עֶשְׂרֵה֙ H6240 teen נָשָׂ֔א H5375 (for he took וּפִֽילַגְשִׁ֖ים H6370 concubines שִׁשִּׁ֑ים H8346 and threescore וַיּ֗וֹלֶד H3205 and begat עֶשְׂרִ֧ים H6242 twenty וּשְׁמוֹנָ֛ה H8083 eight בָּנִ֖ים H1121 sons וְשִׁשִּׁ֥ים H8346 and threescore בָּנֽוֹת׃ H1323 daughters

²² וַיַּֽעֲמֵ֨ד H5975 made לָרֹ֧אשׁ H7218 the chief רְחַבְעָ֛ם H7346 And Rehoboam אֶת־ H853 אֲבִיָּ֥ה H29 Abijah בֶֽן־ H1121 the son מַעֲכָ֖ה H4601 of Maachah לְנָגִ֣יד H5057 ruler בְּאֶחָ֑יו H251 among his brethren כִּ֖י H3588 for לְהַמְלִיכֽוֹ׃ H4427 for to make him king

²³ וַיָּבֶן֩ H995 And he dealt wisely וַיִּפְרֹ֨ץ H6555 and dispersed מִכָּל־ H3605 all בָּנָ֜יו H1121 of all his children לְֽכָל־ H3605 to all אַרְצ֧וֹת H776 throughout all the countries יְהוּדָ֣ה H3063 of Judah וּבִנְיָמִ֗ן H1144 and Benjamin לְכֹל֙ H3605 to all עָרֵ֣י H5892 city הַמְּצֻר֔וֹת H4694 unto every fenced וַיִּתֵּ֥ן H5414 and he gave לָהֶ֛ם H0 הַמָּז֖וֹן H4202 them victual לָרֹ֑ב H7230 in abundance וַיִּשְׁאַ֖ל H7592 And he desired הֲמ֥וֹן H1995 many נָשִֽׁים׃ H802 wives

¹ וַיְהִ֗י H1961 become כְּהָכִ֞ין H3559 had established מַלְכ֤וּת H4438 the kingdom רְחַבְעָם֙ H7346 And it came to pass when Rehoboam וּכְחֶזְקָת֔וֹ H2393 and had strengthened עָזַ֖ב H5800 himself he forsook אֶת־ H853 תּוֹרַ֣ת H8451 the law יְהוָ֑ה H3068 of the LORD וְכָל־ H3605 and all יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 and all Israel עִמּֽוֹ׃ H5973 with פ

² וַיְהִ֞י H1961 came בַּשָּׁנָ֤ה H8141 year הַֽחֲמִישִׁית֙ H2549 And it came to pass in the fifth לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ H4428 of king רְחַבְעָ֔ם H7346 Rehoboam עָלָ֛ה H5927 came up שִׁישַׁ֥ק H7895 Shishak מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 king מִצְרַ֖יִם H4714 of Egypt עַל־ H5921 against יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם H3389 against Jerusalem כִּ֥י H3588 because מָעֲל֖וּ H4603 because they had transgressed בַּיהוָֽה׃ H3068 against the LORD

³ בְּאֶ֤לֶף H505 thousand וּמָאתַ֙יִם֙ H3967 hundred רֶ֔כֶב H7393 chariots וּבְשִׁשִּׁ֥ים H8346 and threescore אֶ֖לֶף H505 thousand פָּרָשִׁ֑ים H6571 horsemen וְאֵ֣ין H369 were without מִסְפָּ֗ר H4557 without number לָעָ֞ם H5971 and the people אֲשֶׁר־ H834 who בָּ֤אוּ H935 that came עִמּוֹ֙ H5973 from מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם H4714 with him out of Egypt לוּבִ֥ים H3864 the Lubims סֻכִּיִּ֖ים H5525 the Sukkiims וְכוּשִֽׁים׃ H3569 and the Ethiopians

⁴ וַיִּלְכֹּ֛ד H3920 And he took אֶת־ H853 עָרֵ֥י H5892 cities הַמְּצֻר֖וֹת H4694 the fenced אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 after לִֽיהוּדָ֑ה H3063 which to Judah וַיָּבֹ֖א H935 and came עַד־ H5704 far יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 to Jerusalem ס

⁵ וּֽשְׁמַֽעְיָ֤ה H8098 Shemaiah הַנָּבִיא֙ H5030 the prophet בָּ֣א H935 Then came אֶל־ H413 to רְחַבְעָ֔ם H7346 to Rehoboam וְשָׂרֵ֣י H8269 and the princes יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah אֲשֶׁר־ H834 who נֶאֶסְפ֥וּ H622 that were gathered together אֶל־ H413 at יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם H3389 to Jerusalem מִפְּנֵ֣י H6440 because שִׁישָׁ֑ק H7895 of Shishak וַיֹּ֨אמֶר H559 and said לָהֶ֜ם H0 כֹּה־ H3541 Thus אָמַ֣ר H559 unto them Thus saith יְהוָ֗ה H3068 the LORD אַתֶּם֙ H859 You עֲזַבְתֶּ֣ם H5800 Ye have forsaken אֹתִ֔י H853 וְאַף־ H637 me and therefore have I also אֲנִ֛י H589 I עָזַ֥בְתִּי H5800 left אֶתְכֶ֖ם H853 בְּיַד־ H3027 you in the hand שִׁישָֽׁק׃ H7895 of Shishak

⁶ וַיִּכָּנְע֥וּ H3665 humbled שָׂרֵֽי־ H8269 Whereupon the princes יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 of Israel וְהַמֶּ֑לֶךְ H4428 and the king וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ H559 themselves and they said צַדִּ֥יק ׀ H6662 righteous יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 The LORD

⁷ וּבִרְא֤וֹת H7200 saw יְהוָה֙ H3068 And when the LORD כִּ֣י H3588 for נִכְנָ֔עוּ H3665 that they humbled הָיָה֩ H1961 came דְבַר־ H1697 themselves the word יְהוָ֨ה H3068 of the LORD אֶל־ H413 to שְׁמַֽעְיָ֧ה ׀ H8098 came to Shemaiah לֵאמֹ֛ר H559 saying נִכְנְע֖וּ H3665 They have humbled לֹ֣א H3808 not אַשְׁחִיתֵ֑ם H7843 themselves I will not destroy וְנָתַתִּ֨י H5414 them but I will grant לָהֶ֤ם H1992 them כִּמְעַט֙ H4592 them some לִפְלֵיטָ֔ה H6413 deliverance וְלֹא־ H3808 not תִתַּ֧ךְ H5413 shall not be poured out חֲמָתִ֛י H2534 and my wrath בִּירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם H3389 upon Jerusalem בְּיַד־ H3027 by the hand שִׁישָֽׁק׃ H7895 of Shishak

⁸ כִּ֥י H3588 for יִהְיוּ־ H1961 will become ל֖וֹ H0 לַעֲבָדִ֑ים H5650 Nevertheless they shall be his servants וְיֵדְעוּ֙ H3045 that they may know עֲב֣וֹדָתִ֔י H5656 my service וַעֲבוֹדַ֖ת H5656 and the service מַמְלְכ֥וֹת H4467 of the kingdoms הָאֲרָצֽוֹת׃ H776 of the countries ס

⁹ וַיַּ֨עַל H5927 came up שִׁישַׁ֥ק H7895 So Shishak מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 king מִצְרַיִם֮ H4714 of Egypt עַל־ H5921 against יְרוּשָׁלִַם֒ H3389 against Jerusalem וַיִּקַּ֞ח H3947 and took away אֶת־ H853 אֹצְר֣וֹת H214 the treasures בֵּית־ H1004 of the house יְהוָ֗ה H3068 of the LORD וְאֶת־ H853 אֹֽצְרוֹת֙ H214 and the treasures בֵּ֣ית H1004 house הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ H4428 of the king's אֶת־ H853 הַכֹּ֖ל H3605 everything לָקָ֑ח H3947 he took וַיִּקַּח֙ H3947 all he carried away אֶת־ H853 מָגִנֵּ֣י H4043 also the shields הַזָּהָ֔ב H2091 of gold אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which עָשָׂ֖ה H6213 had made שְׁלֹמֹֽה׃ H8010 which Solomon

¹⁰ וַיַּ֨עַשׂ H6213 made הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ H4428 Instead of which king רְחַבְעָם֙ H7346 Rehoboam תַּחְתֵּיהֶ֔ם H8478 their place מָגִנֵּ֖י H4043 shields נְחֹ֑שֶׁת H5178 of brass וְהִפְקִ֗יד H6485 and committed עַל־ H5921 and יַד֙ H3027 to the hands שָׂרֵ֣י H8269 of the chief הָרָצִ֔ים H7323 of the guard הַשֹּׁ֣מְרִ֔ים H8104 that kept פֶּ֖תַח H6607 the entrance בֵּ֥ית H1004 house הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ H4428 of the king's

¹¹ וַיְהִ֛י H1961 become מִדֵּי־ H1767 And when ב֥וֹא H935 entered הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ H4428 the king בֵּ֣ית H1004 into the house יְהוָ֑ה H3068 of the LORD בָּ֤אוּ H935 came הָרָצִים֙ H7323 the guard וּנְשָׂא֔וּם H5375 and fetched וֶהֱשִׁב֖וּם H7725 them and brought them again אֶל־ H413 about תָּ֥א H8372 chamber הָרָצִֽים׃ H7323 into the guard

¹² וּבְהִכָּֽנְע֗וֹ H3665 And when he humbled שָׁ֤ב H7725 turned מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ H4480 at אַף־ H639 himself the wrath יְהוָ֔ה H3068 of the LORD וְלֹ֥א H3808 not לְהַשְׁחִ֖ית H7843 from him that he would not destroy לְכָלָ֑ה H3617 altogether וְגַם֙ H1571 and also בִּֽיהוּדָ֔ה H3063 and also in Judah הָיָ֖ה H1961 become דְּבָרִ֥ים H1697 things טוֹבִֽים׃ H2896 went well ס

¹³ וַיִּתְחַזֵּ֞ק H2388 strengthened הַמֶּ֧לֶךְ H4428 So king רְחַבְעָ֛ם H7346 Rehoboam בִּירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם H3389 himself in Jerusalem וַיִּמְלֹ֑ךְ H4427 and reigned כִּ֣י H3588 Now בֶן־ H1121 old אַרְבָּעִ֣ים H705 and forty וְאַחַ֣ת H259 one שָׁנָה֩ H8141 years רְחַבְעָ֨ם H7346 for Rehoboam בְּמָלְכ֜וֹ H4427 when he began to reign וּֽשֲׁבַ֨ע H7651 seven עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה H6240 teen שָׁנָ֣ה ׀ H8141 years מָלַ֣ךְ H4427 and he reigned בִּֽירוּשָׁלִַ֗ם H3389 in Jerusalem הָ֠עִיר H5892 the city אֲשֶׁר־ H834 which בָּחַ֨ר H977 had chosen יְהוָ֜ה H3068 which the LORD לָשׂ֨וּם H7760 to put אֶת־ H853 שְׁמ֥וֹ H8034 his name שָׁם֙ H8033 there מִכֹּל֙ H3605 all שִׁבְטֵ֣י H7626 out of all the tribes יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel וְשֵׁ֣ם H8034 name אִמּ֔וֹ H517 there And his mother's נַעֲמָ֖ה H5279 Naamah הָֽעַמֹּנִֽית׃ H5985 an Ammonitess

¹⁴ וַיַּ֖עַשׂ H6213 And he did הָרָ֑ע H7451 evil כִּ֣י H3588 because לֹ֤א H3808 did not הֵכִין֙ H3559 because he prepared לִבּ֔וֹ H3820 not his heart לִדְר֖וֹשׁ H1875 to seek אֶת־ H853 יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 the LORD ס

³ וַיֶּאְסֹ֨ר H631 in array אֲבִיָּ֜ה H29 And Abijah אֶת־ H853 הַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה H4421 the battle בְּחַ֙יִל֙ H2428 with an army גִּבּוֹרֵ֣י H1368 of valiant men מִלְחָמָ֔ה H4421 of war אַרְבַּע־ H702 four מֵא֥וֹת H3967 hundred אֶ֖לֶף H505 thousand אִ֣ישׁ H376 men בָּח֑וּר H970 young ס וְיָרָבְעָ֗ם H3379 Jeroboam עָרַ֤ךְ H6186 in array עִמּוֹ֙ H5973 set מִלְחָמָ֔ה H4421 also set the battle בִּשְׁמוֹנֶ֨ה H8083 against him with eight מֵא֥וֹת H3967 hundred אֶ֛לֶף H505 thousand אִ֥ישׁ H376 men בָּח֖וּר H970 young גִּבּ֥וֹר H1368 mighty men חָֽיִל׃ H2428 of valour ס

⁴ וַיָּ֣קָם H6965 stood up אֲבִיָּ֗ה H29 And Abijah מֵעַל֙ H5921 on לְהַ֣ר H2022 upon mount צְמָרַ֔יִם H6787 Zemaraim אֲשֶׁ֖ר H834 which בְּהַ֣ר H2022 which in mount אֶפְרָ֑יִם H669 Ephraim וַיֹּ֕אמֶר H559 and said שְׁמָע֖וּנִי H8085 Hear יָרָבְעָ֥ם H3379 me thou Jeroboam וְכָל־ H3605 and all יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ H3478 and all Israel

⁵ הֲלֹ֤א H3808 not לָכֶם֙ H0 לָדַ֔עַת H3045 Ought ye not to know כִּ֞י H3588 that יְהוָ֣ה ׀ H3068 that the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 God יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל H3478 of Israel נָתַ֨ן H5414 gave מַמְלָכָ֧ה H4467 the kingdom לְדָוִ֛יד H1732 to David עַל־ H5921 over יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 over Israel לְעוֹלָ֑ם H5769 for ever ל֥וֹ H0 וּלְבָנָ֖יו H1121 to him and to his sons בְּרִ֥ית H1285 by a covenant מֶֽלַח׃ H4417 salt ס

⁶ וַיָּ֙קָם֙ H6965 is risen up יָרָבְעָ֣ם H3379 Yet Jeroboam בֶּן־ H1121 the son נְבָ֔ט H5028 of Nebat עֶ֖בֶד H5650 the servant שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה H8010 of Solomon בֶן־ H1121 the son דָּוִ֑יד H1732 of David וַיִּמְרֹ֖ד H4775 and hath rebelled עַל־ H5921 against אֲדֹנָֽיו׃ H113 against his lord

⁷ וַיִּקָּבְצ֣וּ H6908 And there are gathered עָלָ֗יו H5921 about אֲנָשִׁ֤ים H582 men רֵקִים֙ H7386 unto him vain בְּנֵ֣י H1121 the children בְלִיַּ֔עַל H1100 of Belial וַיִּֽתְאַמְּצ֖וּ H553 and have strengthened עַל־ H5921 too רְחַבְעָ֣ם H7346 themselves against Rehoboam בֶּן־ H1121 the son שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה H8010 of Solomon וּרְחַבְעָ֗ם H7346 when Rehoboam הָ֤יָה H1961 become נַ֙עַר֙ H5288 was young וְרַךְ־ H7390 faint לֵבָ֔ב H3824 heart וְלֹ֥א H3808 not הִתְחַזַּ֖ק H2388 and could not withstand לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ H6440 them

⁸ וְעַתָּ֣ה ׀ H6258 now אַתֶּ֣ם H859 you אֹֽמְרִ֗ים H559 And now ye think לְהִתְחַזֵּק֙ H2388 to withstand לִפְנֵי֙ H6440 accept מַמְלֶ֣כֶת H4467 the kingdom יְהוָ֔ה H3068 of the LORD בְּיַ֖ד H3027 in the hand בְּנֵ֣י H1121 of the sons דָוִ֑יד H1732 of David וְאַתֶּם֙ H859 you הָמ֣וֹן H1995 multitude רָ֔ב H7227 and ye a great וְעִמָּכֶם֙ H5973 with עֶגְלֵ֣י H5695 calves זָהָ֔ב H2091 and with you golden אֲשֶׁ֨ר H834 which עָשָׂ֥ה H6213 made לָכֶ֛ם H0 יָרָבְעָ֖ם H3379 which Jeroboam לֵאלֹהִֽים׃ H430 you for gods

⁹ הֲלֹ֤א H3808 of no הִדַּחְתֶּם֙ H5080 Have ye not cast out אֶת־ H853 כֹּהֲנֵ֣י H3548 the priests יְהוָ֔ה H3068 of the LORD אֶת־ H853 בְּנֵ֥י H1121 the sons אַהֲרֹ֖ן H175 of Aaron וְהַלְוִיִּ֑ם H3881 and the Levites וַתַּעֲשׂ֨וּ H6213 and have made לָכֶ֤ם H0 כֹּהֲנִים֙ H3548 you priests כְּעַמֵּ֣י H5971 after the manner of the nations הָאֲרָצ֔וֹת H776 common כָּל־ H3605 all manner הַבָּ֗א H935 comes לְמַלֵּ֨א H4390 accomplish יָד֜וֹ H3027 himself בְּפַ֤ר H6499 bullock בֶּן־ H1121 A young בָּקָר֙ H1241 bull וְאֵילִ֣ם H352 rams שִׁבְעָ֔ה H7651 and seven וְהָיָ֥ה H1961 may become כֹהֵ֖ן H3548 may be a priest לְלֹ֥א H3808 no אֱלֹהִֽים׃ H430 gods ס

¹⁰ וַאֲנַ֛חְנוּ H587 we יְהוָ֥ה H3068 But as for us the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ H430 our God וְלֹ֣א H3808 have not עֲזַבְנֻ֑הוּ H5800 and we have not forsaken וְכֹ֨הֲנִ֜ים H3548 him and the priests מְשָׁרְתִ֤ים H8334 which minister לַֽיהוָה֙ H3068 unto the LORD בְּנֵ֣י H1121 the sons אַהֲרֹ֔ן H175 of Aaron וְהַלְוִיִּ֖ם H3881 and the Levites בַּמְלָֽאכֶת׃ H4399 upon business

¹¹ וּמַקְטִרִ֣ים H6999 And they burn לַיהוָ֡ה H3068 unto the LORD עֹל֣וֹת H5930 burnt sacrifices בַּבֹּֽקֶר־ H1242 every morning בַּבֹּ֣קֶר H1242 morning וּבָעֶֽרֶב־ H6153 and every evening בָּעֶ֣רֶב H6153 every evening וּקְטֹֽרֶת־ H7004 incense סַמִּים֩ H5561 and sweet וּמַעֲרֶ֨כֶת H4635 row לֶ֜חֶם H3899 bread עַל־ H5921 and הַשֻּׁלְחָ֣ן H7979 table הַטָּה֗וֹר H2889 also upon the pure וּמְנוֹרַ֨ת H4501 and the candlestick הַזָּהָ֤ב H2091 of gold וְנֵרֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ H5216 with the lamps לְבָעֵר֙ H1197 thereof to burn בָּעֶ֣רֶב H6153 evening בָּעֶ֔רֶב H6153 every כִּֽי־ H3588 for שֹׁמְרִ֣ים H8104 for we keep אֲנַ֔חְנוּ H587 ourselves אֶת־ H853 מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת H4931 the charge יְהוָ֣ה H3068 of the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ H430 our God וְאַתֶּ֖ם H859 you עֲזַבְתֶּ֥ם H5800 but ye have forsaken אֹתֽוֹ׃ H853

¹² וְהִנֵּה֩ H2009 now behold עִמָּ֨נוּ H5973 against בָרֹ֜אשׁ H7218 himself with us for captain הָאֱלֹהִ֧ים ׀ H430 And behold God וְכֹהֲנָ֛יו H3548 and his priests וַחֲצֹצְר֥וֹת H2689 trumpets הַתְּרוּעָ֖ה H8643 with sounding לְהָרִ֣יעַ H7321 to cry alarm עֲלֵיכֶ֑ם H5921 against בְּנֵ֣י H1121 against you O children יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל H3478 of Israel אַל־ H408 not תִּלָּֽחֲמ֛וּ H3898 fight עִם־ H5973 against יְהוָ֥ה H3068 ye not against the LORD אֱלֹהֵֽי־ H430 God אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם H1 of your fathers כִּי־ H3588 for לֹ֥א H3808 you will not תַצְלִֽיחוּ׃ H6743 for ye shall not prosper

¹³ וְיָֽרָבְעָ֗ם H3379 But Jeroboam הֵסֵב֙ H5437 about אֶת־ H853 הַמַּאְרָ֔ב H3993 caused an ambushment לָב֖וֹא H935 to come מֵֽאַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם H310 behind וַיִּֽהְיוּ֙ H1961 was in לִפְנֵ֣י H6440 them so they were before יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 Judah וְהַמַּאְרָ֖ב H3993 and the ambushment מֵאַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃ H310 behind

¹⁴ וַיִּפְנ֣וּ H6437 looked back יְהוּדָ֗ה H3063 And when Judah וְהִנֵּ֨ה H2009 behold לָהֶ֤ם H0 הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ H4421 behold the battle פָּנִ֣ים H6440 before וְאָח֔וֹר H268 and behind וַֽיִּצְעֲק֖וּ H6817 and they cried לַיהוָ֑ה H3068 unto the LORD וְהַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים H3548 and the priests <מַחֲצֹצְרִים כ> (מַחְצְרִ֖ים H2690 blow ק) בַּחֲצֹצְרֽוֹת׃ H2689 with the trumpets

¹⁵ וַיָּרִ֖יעוּ H7321 gave a shout אִ֣ישׁ H376 Then the men יְהוּדָ֑ה H3063 of Judah וַיְהִ֗י H1961 A war בְּהָרִ֙יעַ֙ H7321 shouted אִ֣ישׁ H376 and as the men יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah וְהָאֱלֹהִ֗ים H430 it came to pass that God נָגַ֤ף H5062 smote אֶת־ H853 יָֽרָבְעָם֙ H3379 Jeroboam וְכָל־ H3605 and all יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 and all Israel לִפְנֵ֥י H6440 before אֲבִיָּ֖ה H29 Abijah וִיהוּדָֽה׃ H3063 and Judah

¹⁶ וַיָּנ֥וּסוּ H5127 fled בְנֵי־ H1121 And the children יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 of Israel מִפְּנֵ֣י H6440 before יְהוּדָ֑ה H3063 Judah וַיִּתְּנֵ֥ם H5414 delivered אֱלֹהִ֖ים H430 and God בְּיָדָֽם׃ H3027 them into their hand

¹⁷ וַיַּכּ֥וּ H5221 slew בָהֶ֛ם H0 אֲבִיָּ֥ה H29 And Abijah וְעַמּ֖וֹ H5971 and his people מַכָּ֣ה H4347 slaughter רַבָּ֑ה H7227 them with a great וַיִּפְּל֤וּ H5307 so there fell down חֲלָלִים֙ H2491 slain מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel חֲמֵשׁ־ H2568 five מֵא֥וֹת H3967 hundred אֶ֖לֶף H505 thousand אִ֥ישׁ H376 men בָּחֽוּר׃ H970 young

¹⁸ וַיִּכָּנְע֥וּ H3665 were brought בְנֵי־ H1121 Thus the children יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 of Israel בָּעֵ֣ת H6256 under at that time הַהִ֑יא H1931 he וַיֶּֽאֶמְצוּ֙ H553 prevailed בְּנֵ֣י H1121 and the children יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah כִּ֣י H3588 because נִשְׁעֲנ֔וּ H8172 because they relied עַל־ H5921 in יְהוָ֖ה H3068 upon the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֥י H430 God אֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ H1 of their fathers

¹⁹ וַיִּרְדֹּ֣ף H7291 pursued אֲבִיָּה֮ H29 And Abijah אַחֲרֵ֣י H310 after יָרָבְעָם֒ H3379 Jeroboam וַיִּלְכֹּ֤ד H3920 and took מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ H4480 from עָרִ֔ים H5892 cities אֶת־ H853 בֵּֽית־ H0 אֵל֙ H1008 from him Bethel וְאֶת־ H853 בְּנוֹתֶ֔יהָ H1323 with the towns וְאֶת־ H853 יְשָׁנָ֖ה H3466 thereof and Jeshanah וְאֶת־ H853 בְּנוֹתֶ֑יהָ H1323 with the towns וְאֶת־ H853 <עֶפְרֹון כ> (עֶפְרַ֖יִן H6085 Ephron ק) וּבְנֹתֶֽיהָ׃ H1323 with the towns

²⁰ וְלֹֽא־ H3808 not עָצַ֧ר H6113 recover כֹּֽחַ־ H3581 strength יָרָבְעָ֛ם H3379 Neither did Jeroboam ע֖וֹד H5750 again בִּימֵ֣י H3117 again in the days אֲבִיָּ֑הוּ H29 of Abijah וַיִּגְּפֵ֥הוּ H5062 struck יְהוָ֖ה H3068 and the LORD וַיָּמֹֽת׃ H4191 him and he died פ

²¹ וַיִּתְחַזֵּ֣ק H2388 waxed mighty אֲבִיָּ֔הוּ H29 But Abijah וַיִּ֨שָּׂא־ H5375 and married ל֔וֹ H0 נָשִׁ֖ים H802 wives אַרְבַּ֣ע H702 four עֶשְׂרֵ֑ה H6240 teen וַיּ֗וֹלֶד H3205 and begat עֶשְׂרִ֤ים H6242 twenty וּשְׁנַ֙יִם֙ H8147 and two בָּנִ֔ים H1121 sons וְשֵׁ֥שׁ H8337 six עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה H6240 teen בָּנֽוֹת׃ H1323 daughters ס

²² וְיֶ֙תֶר֙ H3499 And the rest דִּבְרֵ֣י H1697 of the acts אֲבִיָּ֔ה H29 of Abijah וּדְרָכָ֖יו H1870 and his ways וּדְבָרָ֑יו H1697 and his sayings כְּתוּבִ֕ים H3789 written בְּמִדְרַ֖שׁ H4097 in the story הַנָּבִ֥יא H5030 of the prophet עִדּֽוֹ׃ H5714 Iddo

² וַיַּ֤עַשׂ H6213 did אָסָא֙ H609 And Asa הַטּ֣וֹב H2896 good וְהַיָּשָׁ֔ר H3477 and right בְּעֵינֵ֖י H5869 in the eyes יְהוָ֥ה H3068 of the LORD אֱלֹהָֽיו׃ H430 his God

³ וַיָּ֛סַר H5493 For he took away אֶת־ H853 מִזְבְּח֥וֹת H4196 the altars הַנֵּכָ֖ר H5236 of the strange וְהַבָּמ֑וֹת H1116 and the high places וַיְשַׁבֵּר֙ H7665 and brake down אֶת־ H853 הַמַּצֵּב֔וֹת H4676 the images וַיְגַדַּ֖ע H1438 and cut down אֶת־ H853 הָאֲשֵׁרִֽים׃ H842 the groves

⁴ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 And commanded לִֽיהוּדָ֔ה H3063 Judah לִדְר֕וֹשׁ H1875 to seek אֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֖ה H3068 the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 God אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם H1 of their fathers וְלַעֲשׂ֖וֹת H6213 and to do הַתּוֹרָ֥ה H8451 the law וְהַמִּצְוָֽה׃ H4687 and the commandment

⁵ וַיָּ֙סַר֙ H5493 Also he took away מִכָּל־ H3605 all עָרֵ֣י H5892 out of all the cities יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah אֶת־ H853 הַבָּמ֖וֹת H1116 the high places וְאֶת־ H853 הַֽחַמָּנִ֑ים H2553 and the images וַתִּשְׁקֹ֥ט H8252 was quiet הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה H4467 and the kingdom לְפָנָֽיו׃ H6440 before

⁶ וַיִּ֛בֶן H1129 And he built עָרֵ֥י H5892 cities מְצוּרָ֖ה H4694 fenced בִּיהוּדָ֑ה H3063 in Judah כִּֽי־ H3588 since שָׁקְטָ֣ה H8252 had rest הָאָ֗רֶץ H776 for the land וְאֵין־ H369 and there עִמּ֤וֹ H5973 at מִלְחָמָה֙ H4421 and he had no war בַּשָּׁנִ֣ים H8141 in those years הָאֵ֔לֶּה H428 those כִּֽי־ H3588 because הֵנִ֥יחַ H5117 had given him rest יְהוָ֖ה H3068 because the LORD לֽוֹ׃ H0

⁷ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר H559 Therefore he said לִֽיהוּדָ֜ה H3063 unto Judah נִבְנֶ֣ה ׀ H1129 Let us build אֶת־ H853 הֶעָרִ֣ים H5892 these cities הָאֵ֗לֶּה H428 these וְנָסֵ֨ב H5437 and make about חוֹמָ֣ה H2346 walls וּמִגְדָּלִים֮ H4026 and towers דְּלָתַ֣יִם H1817 gates וּבְרִיחִים֒ H1280 and bars עוֹדֶ֨נּוּ H5750 is still הָאָ֜רֶץ H776 the land לְפָנֵ֗ינוּ H6440 yet before כִּ֤י H3588 because דָרַ֙שְׁנוּ֙ H1875 us because we have sought אֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֣ה H3068 the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ H430 our God דָּרַ֕שְׁנוּ H1875 we have sought וַיָּ֥נַֽח H5117 and he hath given us rest לָ֖נוּ H0 מִסָּבִ֑יב H5439 on every side וַיִּבְנ֖וּ H1129 So they built וַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃ H6743 and prospered פ

⁸ וַיְהִ֣י H1961 become לְאָסָ֗א H609 And Asa חַיִל֮ H2428 had an army נֹשֵׂ֣א H5375 that bare צִנָּ֣ה H6793 targets וָרֹמַח֒ H7420 and spears מִֽיהוּדָה֙ H3063 out of Judah שְׁלֹ֣שׁ H7969 three מֵא֣וֹת H3967 hundred אֶ֔לֶף H505 thousand ס וּמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ן H1144 and out of Benjamin נֹשְׂאֵ֤י H5375 that bare מָגֵן֙ H4043 shields וְדֹ֣רְכֵי H1869 and drew קֶ֔שֶׁת H7198 bows מָאתַ֥יִם H3967 two hundred וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖ים H8084 and fourscore אָ֑לֶף H505 thousand כָּל־ H3605 all אֵ֖לֶּה H428 another גִּבּ֥וֹרֵי H1368 all these mighty men חָֽיִל׃ H2428 of valour

⁹ וַיֵּצֵ֨א H3318 And there came out אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם H413 against זֶ֣רַח H2226 against them Zerah הַכּוּשִׁ֗י H3569 the Ethiopian בְּחַ֙יִל֙ H2428 with an host אֶ֣לֶף H505 of a thousand אֲלָפִ֔ים H505 thousand וּמַרְכָּב֖וֹת H4818 chariots שְׁלֹ֣שׁ H7969 and three מֵא֑וֹת H3967 hundred וַיָּבֹ֖א H935 and came עַד־ H5704 against מָרֵשָֽׁה׃ H4762 unto Mareshah

¹⁰ וַיֵּצֵ֥א H3318 went out אָסָ֖א H609 Then Asa לְפָנָ֑יו H6440 against וַיַּֽעַרְכוּ֙ H6186 in array מִלְחָמָ֔ה H4421 him and they set the battle בְּגֵ֥יא H1516 in the valley צְפַ֖תָה H6859 of Zephathah לְמָרֵשָֽׁה׃ H4762 at Mareshah

¹¹ וַיִּקְרָ֨א H7121 cried אָסָ֜א H609 And Asa אֶל־ H413 to יְהוָ֣ה H3068 unto the LORD אֱלֹהָיו֮ H430 his God וַיֹּאמַר֒ H559 and said יְהוָ֗ה H3068 LORD אֵֽין־ H369 there עִמְּךָ֤ H5973 besides לַעְזוֹר֙ H5826 nothing with thee to help בֵּ֥ין H996 whether רַב֙ H7227 with many לְאֵ֣ין H369 is no כֹּ֔חַ H3581 or with them that have no power עָזְרֵ֜נוּ H5826 help יְהוָ֤ה H3068 us O LORD אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ H430 our God כִּֽי־ H3588 for עָלֶ֣יךָ H5921 against נִשְׁעַ֔נּוּ H8172 for we rest וּבְשִׁמְךָ֣ H8034 on thee and in thy name בָ֔אנוּ H935 we go עַל־ H5921 against הֶהָמ֖וֹן H1995 against this multitude הַזֶּ֑ה H2088 this יְהוָ֤ה H3068 O LORD אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ H430 thou our God אַ֔תָּה H859 you אַל־ H408 nay יַעְצֹ֥ר H6113 prevail עִמְּךָ֖ H5973 against אֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ H582 let not man ס

¹² וַיִּגֹּ֤ף H5062 smote יְהוָה֙ H3069 God אֶת־ H853 הַכּוּשִׁ֔ים H3569 the Ethiopians לִפְנֵ֥י H6440 before אָסָ֖א H609 Asa וְלִפְנֵ֣י H6440 and before יְהוּדָ֑ה H3063 Judah וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ H5127 fled הַכּוּשִֽׁים׃ H3569 and the Ethiopians

¹³ וַיִּרְדְּפֵ֨ם H7291 that with him pursued אָסָ֜א H609 And Asa וְהָעָ֣ם H5971 and the people אֲשֶׁר־ H834 who עִמּוֹ֮ H5973 as עַד־ H5704 far לִגְרָר֒ H1642 them unto Gerar וַיִּפֹּ֤ל H5307 were overthrown מִכּוּשִׁים֙ H3569 and the Ethiopians לְאֵ֣ין H369 else לָהֶ֣ם H1992 like מִֽחְיָ֔ה H4241 that they could not recover כִּֽי־ H3588 for נִשְׁבְּר֥וּ H7665 themselves for they were destroyed לִפְנֵֽי־ H6440 before יְהוָ֖ה H3068 the LORD וְלִפְנֵ֣י H6440 and before מַחֲנֵ֑הוּ H4264 his host וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ H5375 and they carried away שָׁלָ֖ל H7998 spoil הַרְבֵּ֥ה H7235 much מְאֹֽד׃ H3966 very

¹⁴ וַיַּכּ֗וּ H5221 And they smote אֵ֤ת H853 כָּל־ H3605 all הֶֽעָרִים֙ H5892 all the cities סְבִיב֣וֹת H5439 round about גְּרָ֔ר H1642 Gerar כִּי־ H3588 for הָיָ֥ה H1961 had fallen פַֽחַד־ H6343 for the fear יְהוָ֖ה H3068 of the LORD עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם H5921 on וַיָּבֹ֙זּוּ֙ H962 came upon them and they spoiled אֶת־ H853 כָּל־ H3605 all הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים H5892 all the cities כִּֽי־ H3588 for בִזָּ֥ה H961 spoil רַבָּ֖ה H7227 for there was exceeding much הָיְתָ֥ה H1961 had fallen בָהֶֽם׃ H0

¹⁵ וְגַם־ H1571 also אָהֳלֵ֥י H168 also the tents מִקְנֶ֖ה H4735 of cattle הִכּ֑וּ H5221 They smote וַיִּשְׁבּ֨וּ H7617 and carried away צֹ֤אן H6629 sheep לָרֹב֙ H7230 in abundance וּגְמַלִּ֔ים H1581 and camels וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ H7725 and returned יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 to Jerusalem ס

¹ וַעֲזַרְיָ֙הוּ֙ H5838 came upon Azariah בֶּן־ H1121 the son עוֹדֵ֔ד H5752 of Oded הָיְתָ֥ה H1961 came עָלָ֖יו H5921 now ר֥וּחַ H7307 And the Spirit אֱלֹהִֽים׃ H430 of God

² וַיֵּצֵא֮ H3318 And he went out לִפְנֵ֣י H6440 to meet אָסָא֒ H609 Asa וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 and said ל֔וֹ H0 שְׁמָע֕וּנִי H8085 unto him Hear אָסָ֖א H609 ye me Asa וְכָל־ H3605 and all יְהוּדָ֣ה H3063 and all Judah וּבִנְיָמִ֑ן H1144 and Benjamin יְהוָ֤ה H3068 The LORD עִמָּכֶם֙ H5973 with בִּֽהְיֽוֹתְכֶ֣ם H1961 become עִמּ֔וֹ H5973 with וְאִֽם־ H518 and if תִּדְרְשֻׁ֙הוּ֙ H1875 with you while ye be with him and if ye seek יִמָּצֵ֣א H4672 him he will be found לָכֶ֔ם H0 וְאִם־ H518 if תַּעַזְבֻ֖הוּ H5800 of you but if ye forsake יַעֲזֹ֥ב H5800 him he will forsake אֶתְכֶֽם׃ H853 ס

³ וְיָמִ֥ים H3117 season רַבִּ֖ים H7227 Now for a long לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 Israel לְלֹ֣א ׀ H3808 without אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 God אֱמֶ֗ת H571 the true וּלְלֹ֛א H3808 and without כֹּהֵ֥ן H3548 priest מוֹרֶ֖ה H3384 and without a teaching וּלְלֹ֥א H3808 and without תוֹרָֽה׃ H8451 and without law

⁴ וַיָּ֙שָׁב֙ H7725 did turn בַּצַּר־ H6862 But when they in their trouble ל֔וֹ H0 עַל־ H5921 unto יְהוָ֖ה H3068 unto the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 God יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 of Israel וַיְבַקְשֻׁ֖הוּ H1245 and sought וַיִּמָּצֵ֥א H4672 him he was found לָהֶֽם׃ H0

⁵ וּבָעִתִּ֣ים H6251 flock הָהֵ֔ם H1992 those אֵ֥ין H369 there שָׁל֖וֹם H7965 no peace לַיּוֹצֵ֣א H3318 to him that went out וְלַבָּ֑א H935 nor to him that came in כִּ֚י H3588 for מְהוּמֹ֣ת H4103 vexations רַבּ֔וֹת H7227 but great עַ֥ל H5921 afflicted כָּל־ H3605 all יוֹשְׁבֵ֖י H3427 upon all the inhabitants הָאֲרָצֽוֹת׃ H776 of the countries

⁶ וְכֻתְּת֥וּ H3807 was destroyed גוֹי־ H1471 And nation בְּג֖וֹי H1471 of nation וְעִ֣יר H5892 and city בְּעִ֑יר H5892 of city כִּֽי־ H3588 for אֱלֹהִ֥ים H430 for God הֲמָמָ֖ם H2000 did vex בְּכָל־ H3605 every צָרָֽה׃ H6869 them with all adversity

⁷ וְאַתֶּ֣ם H859 you חִזְק֔וּ H2388 Be ye strong וְאַל־ H408 nay יִרְפּ֖וּ H7503 be weak יְדֵיכֶ֑ם H3027 therefore and let not your hands כִּ֛י H3588 for יֵ֥שׁ H3426 shall be שָׂכָ֖ר H7939 rewarded לִפְעֻלַּתְכֶֽם׃ H6468 for your work ס

⁸ וְכִשְׁמֹ֨עַ H8085 heard אָסָ֜א H609 And when Asa הַדְּבָרִ֣ים H1697 these words הָאֵ֗לֶּה H428 these וְהַנְּבוּאָה֮ H5016 and the prophecy עֹדֵ֣ד H5752 of Oded הַנָּבִיא֒ H5030 the prophet הִתְחַזַּ֗ק H2388 he took courage וַיַּעֲבֵ֤ר H5674 and put away הַשִּׁקּוּצִים֙ H8251 the abominable idols מִכָּל־ H3605 all אֶ֤רֶץ H776 out of all the land יְהוּדָה֙ H3063 of Judah וּבִנְיָמִ֔ן H1144 and Benjamin וּמִן־ H4480 and from הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים H5892 and out of the cities אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which לָכַ֖ד H3920 which he had taken מֵהַ֣ר H2022 from mount אֶפְרָ֑יִם H669 Ephraim וַיְחַדֵּשׁ֙ H2318 and renewed אֶת־ H853 מִזְבַּ֣ח H4196 the altar יְהוָ֔ה H3068 of the LORD אֲשֶׁ֕ר H834 which לִפְנֵ֖י H6440 that before אוּלָ֥ם H197 the porch יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 of the LORD

⁹ וַיִּקְבֹּ֗ץ H6908 And he gathered אֶת־ H853 כָּל־ H3605 all יְהוּדָה֙ H3063 all Judah וּבִנְיָמִ֔ן H1144 and Benjamin וְהַגָּרִים֙ H1481 and the strangers עִמָּהֶ֔ם H5973 from מֵאֶפְרַ֥יִם H669 with them out of Ephraim וּמְנַשֶּׁ֖ה H4519 and Manasseh וּמִשִּׁמְע֑וֹן H8095 and out of Simeon כִּֽי־ H3588 for נָפְל֨וּ H5307 for they fell עָלָ֤יו H5921 unto מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל֙ H3478 to him out of Israel לָרֹ֔ב H7230 in abundance בִּרְאֹתָ֕ם H7200 when they saw כִּֽי־ H3588 that יְהוָ֥ה H3068 that the LORD אֱלֹהָ֖יו H430 his God עִמּֽוֹ׃ H5973 with פ

¹⁰ וַיִּקָּבְצ֥וּ H6908 So they gathered themselves together יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם H3389 at Jerusalem בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ H2320 month הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י H7992 in the third לִשְׁנַ֥ת H8141 year חֲמֵשׁ־ H2568 fif עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה H6240 teen לְמַלְכ֥וּת H4438 of the reign אָסָֽא׃ H609 of Asa

¹¹ וַיִּזְבְּח֤וּ H2076 And they offered לַיהוָה֙ H3068 unto the LORD בַּיּ֣וֹם H3117 the same time הַה֔וּא H1931 he מִן־ H4480 from הַשָּׁלָ֖ל H7998 of the spoil הֵבִ֑יאוּ H935 they had brought בָּקָר֙ H1241 oxen שְׁבַ֣ע H7651 seven מֵא֔וֹת H3967 hundred וְצֹ֖אן H6629 sheep שִׁבְעַ֥ת H7651 and seven אֲלָפִֽים׃ H505 thousand

¹² וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ H935 And they entered בַבְּרִ֔ית H1285 into a covenant לִדְר֕וֹשׁ H1875 to seek אֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֖ה H3068 the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 God אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם H1 of their fathers בְּכָל־ H3605 all לְבָבָ֖ם H3824 with all their heart וּבְכָל־ H3605 all נַפְשָֽׁם׃ H5315 and with all their soul

¹³ וְכֹ֨ל H3605 all manner אֲשֶׁ֧ר H834 after לֹֽא־ H3808 not יִדְרֹ֛שׁ H1875 That whosoever would not seek לַיהוָ֥ה H3069 God אֱלֹהֵֽי־ H430 God יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 of Israel יוּמָ֑ת H4191 should be put to death לְמִן־ H4480 whether קָטֹן֙ H6996 small וְעַד־ H5704 or גָּד֔וֹל H1419 or great לְמֵאִ֖ישׁ H376 whether man וְעַד־ H5704 or אִשָּֽׁה׃ H802 or woman

¹⁴ וַיִּשָּֽׁבְעוּ֙ H7650 And they sware לַיהוָ֔ה H3068 unto the LORD בְּק֥וֹל H6963 voice גָּד֖וֹל H1419 with a loud וּבִתְרוּעָ֑ה H8643 and with shouting וּבַחֲצֹצְר֖וֹת H2689 and with trumpets וּבְשׁוֹפָרֽוֹת׃ H7782 and with cornets

¹⁵ וַיִּשְׂמְח֨וּ H8055 rejoiced כָל־ H3605 All יְהוּדָ֜ה H3063 And all Judah עַל־ H5921 concerning הַשְּׁבוּעָ֗ה H7621 at the oath כִּ֤י H3588 with בְכָל־ H3605 their whole לְבָבָם֙ H3824 with all their heart נִשְׁבָּ֔עוּ H7650 for they had sworn וּבְכָל־ H3605 their whole רְצוֹנָ֣ם H7522 him with their whole desire בִּקְשֻׁ֔הוּ H1245 and sought וַיִּמָּצֵ֖א H4672 and he was found לָהֶ֑ם H0 וַיָּ֧נַח H5117 gave them rest יְהוָ֛ה H3068 of them and the LORD לָהֶ֖ם H0 מִסָּבִֽיב׃ H5439 round about

¹⁶ וְגַֽם־ H1571 also מַעֲכָ֞ה H4601 And also Maachah אֵ֣ם ׀ H517 the mother אָסָ֣א H609 of Asa הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ H4428 the king הֱסִירָהּ֙ H5493 he removed מִגְּבִירָ֔ה H1377 her from queen אֲשֶׁר־ H834 because עָשְׂתָ֥ה H6213 because she had made לַאֲשֵׁרָ֖ה H842 in a grove מִפְלָ֑צֶת H4656 an idol וַיִּכְרֹ֤ת H3772 cut down אָסָא֙ H609 and Asa אֶת־ H853 מִפְלַצְתָּ֔הּ H4656 her idol וַיָּ֕דֶק H1854 and stamped וַיִּשְׂרֹ֖ף H8313 and burnt בְּנַ֥חַל H5158 at the brook קִדְרֽוֹן׃ H6939 Kidron

¹⁷ וְהַ֨בָּמ֔וֹת H1116 But the high places לֹא־ H3808 were not סָ֖רוּ H5493 were not taken away מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 out of Israel רַ֧ק H7535 but לְבַב־ H3824 nevertheless the heart אָסָ֛א H609 of Asa הָיָ֥ה H1961 become שָׁלֵ֖ם H8003 was perfect כָּל־ H3605 all יָמָֽיו׃ H3117 all his days

¹⁸ וַיָּבֵ֞א H935 And he brought אֶת־ H853 קָדְשֵׁ֥י H6944 had dedicated אָבִ֛יו H1 the things that his father וְקָֽדָשָׁ֖יו H6942 into בֵּ֣ית H1004 into the house הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים H430 of God כֶּ֥סֶף H3701 silver וְזָהָ֖ב H2091 and gold וְכֵלִֽים׃ H3627 and vessels

¹⁹ וּמִלְחָמָ֖ה H4421 And there was no war לֹ֣א H3808 no הָיָ֑תָה H1961 become עַ֛ד H5704 until שְׁנַת־ H8141 year שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים H7970 and thirtieth וְחָמֵ֖שׁ H2568 unto the five לְמַלְכ֥וּת H4438 of the reign אָסָֽא׃ H609 of Asa ס

¹ בִּשְׁנַ֨ת H8141 year שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים H7970 and thirtieth וָשֵׁשׁ֙ H8337 In the six לְמַלְכ֣וּת H4438 of the reign אָסָ֔א H609 of Asa עָלָ֞ה H5927 came up בַּעְשָׁ֤א H1201 Baasha מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 king יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ H3478 of Israel עַל־ H5921 against יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 against Judah וַיִּ֖בֶן H1129 and built אֶת־ H853 הָרָמָ֑ה H7414 Ramah לְבִלְתִּ֗י H1115 to the intent that תֵּ֚ת H5414 he might let יוֹצֵ֣א H3318 none go out וָבָ֔א H935 or come in לְאָסָ֖א H609 to Asa מֶ֥לֶךְ H4428 king יְהוּדָֽה׃ H3063 of Judah

² וַיֹּצֵ֨א H3318 brought out אָסָ֜א H609 Then Asa כֶּ֣סֶף H3701 silver וְזָהָ֗ב H2091 and gold מֵאֹֽצְר֛וֹת H214 out of the treasures בֵּ֥ית H1004 of the house יְהוָ֖ה H3068 of the LORD וּבֵ֣ית H1004 house הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ H4428 and of the king's וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח H7971 and sent אֶל־ H413 about בֶּן־ H0 הֲדַד֙ H1130 to Benhadad מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 king אֲרָ֔ם H758 of Syria הַיּוֹשֵׁ֥ב H3427 that dwelt בְּדַרְמֶ֖שֶׂק H1834 at Damascus לֵאמֹֽר׃ H559 saying

³ בְּרִית֙ H1285 a league בֵּינִ֣י H996 between וּבֵינֶ֔ךָ H996 and me between וּבֵ֥ין H996 and me between אָבִ֖י H1 between me and thee as between my father וּבֵ֣ין H996 and me between אָבִ֑יךָ H1 and thy father הִנֵּ֨ה H2009 Behold שָׁלַ֤חְתִּֽי H7971 behold I have sent לְךָ֙ H0 כֶּ֣סֶף H3701 thee silver וְזָהָ֔ב H2091 and gold לֵ֞ךְ H1980 go הָפֵ֣ר H6565 break בְּרִֽיתְךָ֗ H1285 thy league אֶת־ H854 with בַּעְשָׁא֙ H1201 with Baasha מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 king יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel וְיַעֲלֶ֖ה H5927 that he may depart מֵעָלָֽי׃ H5921 and

⁴ וַיִּשְׁמַ֨ע H8085 hearkened בֶּן H0 הֲדַ֜ד H1130 And Benhadad אֶל־ H413 against הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ H4428 unto king אָסָ֗א H609 Asa וַ֠יִּשְׁלַח H7971 and sent אֶת־ H853 שָׂרֵ֨י H8269 the captains הַחֲיָלִ֤ים H2428 of his armies אֲשֶׁר־ H834 after לוֹ֙ H0 אֶל־ H413 against עָרֵ֣י H5892 against the cities יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel וַיַּכּוּ֙ H5221 and they smote אֶת־ H853 עִיּ֣וֹן H5859 Ijon וְאֶת־ H853 דָּ֔ן H1835 and Dan וְאֵ֖ת H853 אָבֵ֣ל H0 מָ֑יִם H66 and Abelmaim וְאֵ֥ת H853 כָּֽל־ H3605 and all מִסְכְּנ֖וֹת H4543 and all the store עָרֵ֥י H5892 cities נַפְתָּלִֽי׃ H5321 of Naphtali

⁵ וַיְהִי֙ H1961 become כִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ H8085 heard בַּעְשָׁ֔א H1201 And it came to pass when Baasha וַיֶּחְדַּ֕ל H2308 that he left off מִבְּנ֖וֹת H1129 building אֶת־ H853 הָרָמָ֑ה H7414 of Ramah וַיַּשְׁבֵּ֖ת H7673 cease אֶת־ H853 מְלַאכְתּֽוֹ׃ H4399 and let his work ס

⁶ וְאָסָ֣א H609 Then Asa הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ H4428 the king לָקַח֙ H3947 took אֶת־ H853 כָּל־ H3605 all יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 all Judah וַיִּשְׂא֞וּ H5375 and they carried away אֶת־ H853 אַבְנֵ֤י H68 the stones הָֽרָמָה֙ H7414 of Ramah וְאֶת־ H853 עֵצֶ֔יהָ H6086 and the timber אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which בָּנָ֖ה H1129 was building בַּעְשָׁ֑א H1201 thereof wherewith Baasha וַיִּ֣בֶן H1129 and he built בָּהֶ֔ם H0 אֶת־ H853 גֶּ֖בַע H1387 therewith Geba וְאֶת־ H853 הַמִּצְפָּֽה׃ H4709 and Mizpah ס

⁷ וּבָעֵ֣ת H6256 And at that time הַהִ֗יא H1931 he בָּ֚א H935 came חֲנָ֣נִי H2607 Hanani הָרֹאֶ֔ה H7200 the seer אֶל־ H413 to אָסָ֖א H609 to Asa מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 king יְהוּדָ֑ה H3063 of Judah וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 and said אֵלָ֗יו H413 to him בְּהִשָּׁ֨עֶנְךָ֜ H8172 unto him Because thou hast relied עַל־ H5921 on מֶ֤לֶךְ H4428 on the king אֲרָם֙ H758 of Syria וְלֹ֤א H3808 not נִשְׁעַ֙נְתָּ֙ H8172 and not relied עַל־ H5921 and יְהוָ֣ה H3069 God אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ H430 thy God עַל־ H5921 and כֵּ֗ן H3651 after that נִמְלַ֛ט H4422 escaped חֵ֥יל H2426 army מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 of the king אֲרָ֖ם H758 of Syria מִיָּדֶֽךָ׃ H3027 out of thine hand

⁸ הֲלֹ֧א H3808 were not הַכּוּשִׁ֣ים H3569 Were not the Ethiopians וְהַלּוּבִ֗ים H3864 and the Lubims הָי֨וּ H1961 become לְחַ֧יִל ׀ H2428 host לָרֹ֛ב H7230 a huge לְרֶ֥כֶב H7393 chariots וּלְפָרָשִׁ֖ים H6571 horseman לְהַרְבֵּ֣ה H7235 many מְאֹ֑ד H3966 with very וּבְהִשָּֽׁעֶנְךָ֥ H8172 lean עַל־ H5921 on יְהוָ֖ה H3068 on the LORD נְתָנָ֥ם H5414 he delivered בְּיָדֶֽךָ׃ H3027 them into thine hand

⁹ כִּ֣י H3588 Indeed יְהוָ֗ה H3068 of the LORD עֵינָ֞יו H5869 For the eyes מְשֹׁטְט֤וֹת H7751 run to and fro בְּכָל־ H3605 throughout הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ H776 throughout the whole earth לְ֠הִתְחַזֵּק H2388 to shew himself strong עִם־ H5973 whose לְבָבָ֥ם H3824 in the behalf of whose heart שָׁלֵ֛ם H8003 perfect אֵלָ֖יו H413 about נִסְכַּ֣לְתָּ H5528 toward him Herein thou hast done foolishly עַל־ H5921 and זֹ֑את H2063 likewise כִּ֣י H3588 Indeed מֵעַ֔תָּה H6258 therefore from henceforth יֵ֥שׁ H3426 thou shalt have עִמְּךָ֖ H5973 with מִלְחָמֽוֹת׃ H4421 wars

¹⁰ וַיִּכְעַ֨ס H3707 was wroth אָסָ֜א H609 Then Asa אֶל־ H413 with הָרֹאֶ֗ה H7200 with the seer וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֙הוּ֙ H5414 and put בֵּ֣ית H1004 house הַמַּהְפֶּ֔כֶת H4115 him in a prison כִּֽי־ H3588 for בְזַ֥עַף H2197 for in a rage עִמּ֖וֹ H5973 with עַל־ H5921 and זֹ֑את H2063 likewise וַיְרַצֵּ֥ץ H7533 oppressed אָסָ֛א H609 with him because of this And Asa מִן־ H4480 some הָעָ֖ם H5971 of the people בָּעֵ֥ת H6256 the same time הַהִֽיא׃ H1931 the same

¹¹ וְהִנֵּה֙ H2009 Now דִּבְרֵ֣י H1697 And behold the acts אָסָ֔א H609 of Asa הָרִאשׁוֹנִ֖ים H7223 first וְהָאַחֲרוֹנִ֑ים H314 and last הִנָּ֤ם H2005 behold כְּתוּבִים֙ H3789 lo they written עַל־ H5921 in סֵ֣פֶר H5612 in the book הַמְּלָכִ֔ים H4428 of the kings לִיהוּדָ֖ה H3063 of Judah וְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ H3478 and Israel

¹² וַיֶּחֱלֶ֣א H2456 was diseased אָסָ֡א H609 And Asa בִּשְׁנַת֩ H8141 year שְׁלוֹשִׁ֨ים H7970 in the thirty וָתֵ֤שַׁע H8672 and ninth לְמַלְכוּתוֹ֙ H4438 of his reign בְּרַגְלָ֔יו H7272 in his feet עַד־ H5704 against לְמַ֖עְלָה H4605 exceeding חָלְי֑וֹ H2483 until his disease וְגַם־ H1571 even בְּחָלְיוֹ֙ H2483 yet in his disease לֹא־ H3808 did not דָרַ֣שׁ H1875 he sought אֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֔ה H3068 not to the LORD כִּ֖י H3588 but בָּרֹפְאִֽים׃ H7495 but to the physicians

¹³ וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב H7901 slept אָסָ֖א H609 And Asa עִם־ H5973 with אֲבֹתָ֑יו H1 with his fathers וַיָּ֕מָת H4191 and died בִּשְׁנַ֛ת H8141 year אַרְבָּעִ֥ים H705 and fortieth וְאַחַ֖ת H259 in the one לְמָלְכֽוֹ׃ H4427 of his reign

¹⁴ וַיִּקְבְּרֻ֣הוּ H6912 And they buried בְקִבְרֹתָ֗יו H6913 him in his own sepulchres אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 which כָּֽרָה־ H3738 which he had made לוֹ֮ H0 בְּעִ֣יר H5892 for himself in the city דָּוִיד֒ H1732 of David וַיַּשְׁכִּיבֻ֗הוּ H7901 and laid בַּמִּשְׁכָּב֙ H4904 him in the bed אֲשֶׁ֤ר H834 which מִלֵּא֙ H4390 which was filled בְּשָׂמִ֣ים H1314 with sweet odours וּזְנִ֔ים H2177 and divers kinds מְרֻקָּחִ֖ים H4842 by the apothecaries' בְּמִרְקַ֣חַת H4842 prepared by the apothecaries' art מַעֲשֶׂ֑ה H4639 art וַיִּשְׂרְפוּ־ H8313 and they made ל֥וֹ H0 שְׂרֵפָ֖ה H8316 burning גְּדוֹלָ֥ה H1419 great עַד־ H5704 against לִמְאֹֽד׃ H3966 a very פ

¹ וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ H4427 reigned יְהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט H3092 And Jehoshaphat בְּנ֖וֹ H1121 his son תַּחְתָּ֑יו H8478 his place וַיִּתְחַזֵּ֖ק H2388 in his stead and strengthened עַל־ H5921 over יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ H3478 himself against Israel

² וַיִּ֨תֶּן־ H5414 And he placed חַ֔יִל H2428 forces בְּכָל־ H3605 all עָרֵ֥י H5892 cities יְהוּדָ֖ה H3063 of Judah הַבְּצֻר֑וֹת H1219 in all the fenced וַיִּתֵּ֤ן H5414 and set נְצִיבִים֙ H5333 garrisons בְּאֶ֣רֶץ H776 in the land יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah וּבְעָרֵ֣י H5892 and in the cities אֶפְרַ֔יִם H669 of Ephraim אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which לָכַ֖ד H3920 had taken אָסָ֥א H609 which Asa אָבִֽיו׃ H1 his father

³ וַיְהִ֥י H1961 become יְהוָ֖ה H3068 And the LORD עִם־ H5973 was with יְהוֹשָׁפָ֑ט H3092 was with Jehoshaphat כִּ֣י H3588 because הָלַ֗ךְ H1980 because he walked בְּדַרְכֵ֞י H1870 ways דָּוִ֤יד H1732 David אָבִיו֙ H1 of his father הָרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים H7223 in the first וְלֹ֥א H3808 and did not דָרַ֖שׁ H1875 and sought לַבְּעָלִֽים׃ H1168 not unto Baalim

⁴ כִּ֠י H3588 for לֵֽאלֹהֵ֤י H430 to the God אָבִיו֙ H1 of his father דָּרָ֔שׁ H1875 But sought וּבְמִצְוֹתָ֖יו H4687 in his commandments הָלָ֑ךְ H1980 and walked וְלֹ֖א H3808 and did not כְּמַעֲשֵׂ֥ה H4639 and not after the doings יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ H3478 of Israel

⁵ וַיָּ֨כֶן H3559 stablished יְהוָ֤ה H3068 Therefore the LORD אֶת־ H853 הַמַּמְלָכָה֙ H4467 the kingdom בְּיָד֔וֹ H3027 in his hand וַיִּתְּנ֧וּ H5414 brought כָל־ H3605 and all יְהוּדָ֛ה H3063 and all Judah מִנְחָ֖ה H4503 presents לִיהוֹשָׁפָ֑ט H3092 to Jehoshaphat וַֽיְהִי־ H1961 had ל֥וֹ H0 עֹֽשֶׁר־ H6239 and he had riches וְכָב֖וֹד H3519 and honour לָרֹֽב׃ H7230 in abundance

⁶ וַיִּגְבַּ֥הּ H1361 was lifted up לִבּ֖וֹ H3820 And his heart בְּדַרְכֵ֣י H1870 in the ways יְהוָ֑ה H3068 of the LORD וְע֗וֹד H5750 and again הֵסִ֛יר H5493 moreover he took away אֶת־ H853 הַבָּמ֥וֹת H1116 the high places וְאֶת־ H853 הָאֲשֵׁרִ֖ים H842 and groves מִיהוּדָֽה׃ H3063 out of Judah פ

⁷ וּבִשְׁנַ֨ת H8141 year שָׁל֜וֹשׁ H7969 Also in the third לְמָלְכ֗וֹ H4427 of his reign שָׁלַ֤ח H7971 he sent לְשָׂרָיו֙ H8269 to his princes לְבֶן־ H0 חַ֙יִל֙ H1134 to Benhail וּלְעֹבַדְיָ֣ה H5662 and to Obadiah וְלִזְכַרְיָ֔ה H2148 and to Zechariah וְלִנְתַנְאֵ֖ל H5417 and to Nethaneel וּלְמִיכָיָ֑הוּ H4322 and to Michaiah לְלַמֵּ֖ד H3925 to teach בְּעָרֵ֥י H5892 in the cities יְהוּדָֽה׃ H3063 of Judah

⁸ וְעִמָּהֶ֣ם H5973 them הַלְוִיִּ֗ם H3881 And with them Levites שְֽׁמַֽעְיָ֡הוּ H8098 Shemaiah וּנְתַנְיָ֡הוּ H5418 and Nethaniah וּזְבַדְיָ֡הוּ H2069 and Zebadiah וַעֲשָׂהאֵ֡ל H6214 and Asahel <וּשְׁמִרִימֹות כ> (וּשְׁמִֽירָמֹ֡ות H8070 Shemiramoth ק) וִֽיהוֹנָתָן֩ H3083 and Jehonathan וַאֲדֹ֨נִיָּ֧הוּ H138 and Adonijah וְטֽוֹבִיָּ֛הוּ H2900 and Tobijah וְט֥וֹב H0 אֲדוֹנִיָּ֖ה H2899 and Tobadonijah הַלְוִיִּ֑ם H3881 Levites וְעִמָּהֶ֛ם H5973 them אֱלִישָׁמָ֥ע H476 and with them Elishama וִֽיהוֹרָ֖ם H3088 and Jehoram הַכֹּהֲנִֽים׃ H3548 priests

⁹ וַֽיְלַמְּדוּ֙ H3925 And they taught בִּֽיהוּדָ֔ה H3063 in Judah וְעִ֨מָּהֶ֔ם H5973 with סֵ֖פֶר H5612 and the book תּוֹרַ֣ת H8451 of the law יְהוָ֑ה H3068 of the LORD וַיָּסֹ֙בּוּ֙ H5437 with them and went about בְּכָל־ H3605 all עָרֵ֣י H5892 throughout all the cities יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah וַֽיְלַמְּד֖וּ H3925 and taught בָּעָֽם׃ H5971 the people

¹⁰ וַיְהִ֣י ׀ H1961 become פַּ֣חַד H6343 And the fear יְהוָ֗ה H3068 of the LORD עַ֚ל H5921 was on כָּל־ H3605 all מַמְלְכ֣וֹת H4467 fell upon all the kingdoms הָֽאֲרָצ֔וֹת H776 of the lands אֲשֶׁ֖ר H834 which סְבִיב֣וֹת H5439 that round about יְהוּדָ֑ה H3063 Judah וְלֹ֥א H3808 did not נִלְחֲמ֖וּ H3898 so that they made no war עִם־ H5973 against יְהוֹשָׁפָֽט׃ H3092 against Jehoshaphat

¹² וַיְהִ֧י H1961 become יְהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט H3092 And Jehoshaphat הֹלֵ֥ךְ H1980 waxed וְגָדֵ֖ל H1432 great עַד־ H5704 against לְמָ֑עְלָה H4605 exceedingly וַיִּ֧בֶן H1129 and he built בִּֽיהוּדָ֛ה H3063 in Judah בִּירָנִיּ֖וֹת H1003 castles וְעָרֵ֥י H5892 and cities מִסְכְּנֽוֹת׃ H4543 of store

¹³ וּמְלָאכָ֥ה H4399 business רַבָּ֛ה H7227 And he had much הָ֥יָה H1961 had ל֖וֹ H0 בְּעָרֵ֣י H5892 in the cities יְהוּדָ֑ה H3063 of Judah וְאַנְשֵׁ֧י H376 and מִלְחָמָ֛ה H4421 of war גִּבּ֥וֹרֵי H1368 mighty men חַ֖יִל H2428 of valour בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 in Jerusalem

¹⁴ וְאֵ֥לֶּה H428 another פְקֻדָּתָ֖ם H6486 And these the numbers לְבֵ֣ית H1004 of them according to the house אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם H1 of their fathers לִֽיהוּדָה֙ H3063 Of Judah שָׂרֵ֣י H8269 the captains אֲלָפִ֔ים H505 of thousands עַדְנָ֣ה H5734 Adnah הַשָּׂ֔ר H8269 the chief וְעִמּוֹ֙ H5973 with גִּבּ֣וֹרֵי H1368 and with him mighty men חַ֔יִל H2428 of valour שְׁלֹ֥שׁ H7969 three מֵא֖וֹת H3967 hundred אָֽלֶף׃ H505 thousand ס

¹⁵ וְעַל־ H5921 and יָד֖וֹ H3027 And next יְהוֹחָנָ֣ן H3076 to him Jehohanan הַשָּׂ֑ר H8269 the captain וְעִמּ֕וֹ H5973 two מָאתַ֥יִם H3967 and with him two hundred וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖ים H8084 and fourscore אָֽלֶף׃ H505 thousand ס

¹⁶ וְעַל־ H5921 and יָדוֹ֙ H3027 And next עֲמַסְיָ֣ה H6007 him Amasiah בֶן־ H1121 the son זִכְרִ֔י H2147 of Zichri הַמִּתְנַדֵּ֖ב H5068 who willingly offered לַיהוָ֑ה H3068 himself unto the LORD וְעִמּ֛וֹ H5973 two מָאתַ֥יִם H3967 and with him two hundred אֶ֖לֶף H505 thousand גִּבּ֥וֹר H1368 mighty men חָֽיִל׃ H2428 of valour ס

¹⁷ וּמִ֨ן־ H4480 and of בִּנְיָמִ֔ן H1144 And of Benjamin גִּבּ֥וֹר H1368 a mighty man חַ֖יִל H2428 of valour אֶלְיָדָ֑ע H450 Eliada וְעִמּ֛וֹ H5973 with נֹֽשְׁקֵי־ H5401 and with him armed men קֶ֥שֶׁת H7198 with bow וּמָגֵ֖ן H4043 and shield מָאתַ֥יִם H3967 two hundred אָֽלֶף׃ H505 thousand ס

¹⁸ וְעַל־ H5921 and יָד֖וֹ H3027 And next יְהוֹזָבָ֑ד H3075 him Jehozabad וְעִמּ֛וֹ H5973 with מֵאָֽה־ H3967 and with him an hundred וּשְׁמוֹנִ֥ים H8084 and fourscore אֶ֖לֶף H505 thousand חֲלוּצֵ֥י H2502 ready prepared צָבָֽא׃ H6635 for the war ס

¹⁹ אֵ֖לֶּה H428 These הַמְשָׁרְתִ֣ים H8334 These waited אֶת־ H853 הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ H4428 on the king מִלְּבַ֞ד H905 apart אֲשֶׁר־ H834 whom נָתַ֥ן H5414 put הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ H4428 beside whom the king בְּעָרֵ֥י H5892 cities הַמִּבְצָ֖ר H4013 in the fenced בְּכָל־ H3605 all יְהוּדָֽה׃ H3063 throughout all Judah פ

¹ וַיְהִ֧י H1961 had לִֽיהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט H3092 Now Jehoshaphat עֹ֥שֶׁר H6239 had riches וְכָב֖וֹד H3519 and honour לָרֹ֑ב H7230 in abundance וַיִּתְחַתֵּ֖ן H2859 and joined affinity לְאַחְאָֽב׃ H256 with Ahab

² וַיֵּרֶד֩ H3381 he went down לְקֵ֨ץ H7093 And after שָׁנִ֤ים H8141 years אֶל־ H413 against אַחְאָב֙ H256 to Ahab לְשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן H8111 to Samaria וַיִּֽזְבַּֽח־ H2076 killed ל֨וֹ H0 אַחְאָ֜ב H256 And Ahab צֹ֤אן H6629 sheep וּבָקָר֙ H1241 and oxen לָרֹ֔ב H7230 for him in abundance וְלָעָ֖ם H5971 and for the people אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 who עִמּ֑וֹ H5973 with וַיְסִיתֵ֕הוּ H5496 that with him and persuaded לַעֲל֖וֹת H5927 him to go up אֶל־ H413 against רָמ֥וֹת H7433 Ramoth-gilead גִּלְעָֽד׃ H1568 Gilead

³ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר H559 said אַחְאָ֣ב H256 And Ahab מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 king יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל H3478 of Israel אֶל־ H413 to יְהֽוֹשָׁפָט֙ H3092 unto Jehoshaphat מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 king יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah הֲתֵלֵ֥ךְ H1980 go עִמִּ֖י H5973 with רָמֹ֣ת H7433 Ramoth-gilead גִּלְעָ֑ד H1568 Gilead וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 said ל֗וֹ H0 כָּמ֤וֹנִי H3644 according to כָמ֙וֹךָ֙ H3644 you וּכְעַמְּךָ֣ H5971 him I as thou and my people עַמִּ֔י H5971 as thy people וְעִמְּךָ֖ H5973 in בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ H4421 and with thee in the war

⁴ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר H559 said יְהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט H3092 And Jehoshaphat אֶל־ H413 to מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 unto the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 of Israel דְּרָשׁ־ H1875 Enquire נָ֥א H4994 Please כַיּ֖וֹם H3117 to day אֶת־ H853 דְּבַ֥ר H1697 I pray thee at the word יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 of the LORD

⁵ וַיִּקְבֹּ֨ץ H6908 gathered together מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 Therefore the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל H3478 of Israel אֶֽת־ H853 הַנְּבִאִים֮ H5030 of prophets אַרְבַּ֣ע H702 four מֵא֣וֹת H3967 hundred אִישׁ֒ H376 men וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 and said אֲלֵהֶ֗ם H413 against הֲנֵלֵ֞ךְ H1980 go אֶל־ H413 against רָמֹ֥ת H7433 Ramoth-gilead גִּלְעָ֛ד H1568 Gilead לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה H4421 to battle אִם־ H518 or אֶחְדָּ֑ל H2308 or shall I forbear וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ H559 ? And they said עֲלֵ֔ה H5927 Go up וְיִתֵּ֥ן H5414 will deliver הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים H430 for God בְּיַ֥ד H3027 hand הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ H4428 into the king's

⁶ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 said יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט H3092 But Jehoshaphat הַאֵ֨ין H369 is there פֹּ֥ה H6311 here נָבִ֛יא H5030 not here a prophet לַיהוָ֖ה H3068 of the LORD ע֑וֹד H5750 yet וְנִדְרְשָׁ֖ה H1875 besides that we might enquire מֵאֹתֽוֹ׃ H853

⁷ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 said מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 And the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל ׀ H3478 of Israel אֶֽל־ H413 to יְהוֹשָׁפָ֡ט H3092 unto Jehoshaphat ע֣וֹד H5750 is yet אִישׁ־ H376 man אֶחָ֡ד H259 yet one לִדְרוֹשׁ֩ H1875 by whom we may enquire אֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֨ה H3069 God מֵֽאֹת֜וֹ H853 וַאֲנִ֣י H589 I שְׂנֵאתִ֗יהוּ H8130 but I hate כִּֽי־ H3588 for אֵ֠ינֶנּוּ H369 never מִתְנַבֵּ֨א H5012 him for he never prophesied עָלַ֤י H5921 concerning לְטוֹבָה֙ H2896 good כִּ֣י H3588 for כָל־ H3605 but יָמָ֣יו H3117 unto me but always לְרָעָ֔ה H7451 evil ה֖וּא H1931 He מִיכָ֣יְהוּ H4321 the same Micaiah בֶן־ H1121 the son יִמְלָ֑א H3229 of Imla וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 said יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט H3092 And Jehoshaphat אַל־ H408 nay יֹאמַ֥ר H559 say הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ H4428 Let not the king כֵּֽן׃ H3651 so

⁸ וַיִּקְרָא֙ H7121 called מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 And the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel אֶל־ H413 about סָרִ֖יס H5631 officers אֶחָ֑ד H259 for one וַיֹּ֕אמֶר H559 and said מַהֵ֖ר H4116 Fetch quickly <מִיכָהוּ כ> (מִיכָ֥יְהוּ H4318 Micah ק) בֶן־ H1121 the son יִמְלָֽא׃ H3229 of Imla

⁹ וּמֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 And the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל H3478 of Israel וִֽיהוֹשָׁפָ֣ט H3092 and Jehoshaphat מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 king יְהוּדָ֡ה H3063 of Judah יוֹשְׁבִים֩ H3427 sat אִ֨ישׁ H376 either עַל־ H5921 on כִּסְא֜וֹ H3678 of them on his throne מְלֻבָּשִׁ֤ים H3847 clothed בְּגָדִים֙ H899 in robes וְיֹשְׁבִ֣ים H3427 and they sat בְּגֹ֔רֶן H1637 in a void place פֶּ֖תַח H6607 at the entering in שַׁ֣עַר H8179 of the gate שֹׁמְר֑וֹן H8111 of Samaria וְכָל־ H3605 and all הַ֨נְּבִיאִ֔ים H5030 and all the prophets מִֽתְנַבְּאִ֖ים H5012 prophesied לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ H6440 before

¹⁰ וַיַּ֥עַשׂ H6213 had made ל֛וֹ H0 צִדְקִיָּ֥הוּ H6667 And Zedekiah בֶֽן־ H1121 the son כְּנַעֲנָ֖ה H3668 of Chenaanah קַרְנֵ֣י H7161 him horns בַרְזֶ֑ל H1270 of iron וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 and said כֹּֽה־ H3541 Thus אָמַ֣ר H559 Thus saith יְהוָ֔ה H3068 the LORD בְּאֵ֛לֶּה H428 these תְּנַגַּ֥ח H5055 With these thou shalt push אֶת־ H853 אֲרָ֖ם H758 Syria עַד־ H5704 until כַּלּוֹתָֽם׃ H3615 until they be consumed

¹¹ וְכָל־ H3605 All הַ֨נְּבִאִ֔ים H5030 And all the prophets נִבְּאִ֥ים H5012 prophesied כֵּ֖ן H3651 thus לֵאמֹ֑ר H559 so saying עֲלֵ֞ה H5927 Go up רָמֹ֤ת H7433 to Ramoth-gilead גִּלְעָד֙ H1568 Gilead וְהַצְלַ֔ח H6743 and prosper וְנָתַ֥ן H5414 shall deliver יְהוָ֖ה H3068 for the LORD בְּיַ֥ד H3027 into the hand הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ H4428 of the king

¹² וְהַמַּלְאָ֞ךְ H4397 And the messenger אֲשֶׁר־ H834 who הָלַ֣ךְ ׀ H1980 that went לִקְרֹ֣א H7121 to call לְמִיכָ֗יְהוּ H4321 Micaiah דִּבֶּ֤ר H1696 spake אֵלָיו֙ H413 to him לֵאמֹ֔ר H559 to him saying הִנֵּ֞ה H2009 Behold דִּבְרֵ֧י H1697 Behold the words הַנְּבִאִ֛ים H5030 of the prophets פֶּֽה־ H6310 assent אֶחָ֥ד H259 with one ט֖וֹב H2896 good אֶל־ H413 to הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ H4428 to the king וִֽיהִי־ H1961 become נָ֧א H4994 please דְבָרְךָ֛ H1697 let thy word כְּאַחַ֥ד H259 therefore I pray thee be like one מֵהֶ֖ם H1992 of them וְדִבַּ֥רְתָּ H1696 of theirs and speak טּֽוֹב׃ H2896 thou good

¹³ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר H559 said מִיכָ֑יְהוּ H4321 And Micaiah חַי־ H2416 liveth יְהוָ֕ה H3068 the LORD כִּ֛י H3588 for אֶת־ H853 אֲשֶׁר־ H834 what יֹאמַ֥ר H559 saith אֱלֹהַ֖י H430 even what my God אֹת֥וֹ H853 אֲדַבֵּֽר׃ H1696 that will I speak

¹⁴ וַיָּבֹא֮ H935 And when he was come אֶל־ H413 to הַמֶּלֶךְ֒ H4428 to the king וַיֹּ֨אמֶר H559 said הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ H4428 the king אֵלָ֗יו H413 to him מִיכָה֙ H4318 unto him Micaiah הֲנֵלֵ֞ךְ H1980 go אֶל־ H413 to רָמֹ֥ת H7433 Ramoth-gilead גִּלְעָ֛ד H1568 Gilead לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה H4421 to battle אִם־ H518 or אֶחְדָּ֑ל H2308 or shall I forbear וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 ? And he said עֲל֣וּ H5927 Go ye up וְהַצְלִ֔יחוּ H6743 and prosper וְיִנָּתְנ֖וּ H5414 and they shall be delivered בְּיֶדְכֶֽם׃ H3027 into your hand

¹⁵ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר H559 said אֵלָיו֙ H413 then הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ H4428 And the king עַד־ H5704 against כַּמֶּ֥ה H4100 how long פְעָמִ֖ים H6471 to him How many times אֲנִ֣י H589 I מַשְׁבִּיעֶ֑ךָ H7650 shall I adjure אֲ֠שֶׁר H834 to me לֹֽא־ H3808 nothing תְדַבֵּ֥ר H1696 thee that thou say אֵלַ֛י H413 about רַק־ H7535 but אֱמֶ֖ת H571 nothing but the truth בְּשֵׁ֥ם H8034 to me in the name יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 Jehovah

¹⁶ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר H559 Then he said רָאִ֤יתִי H7200 I did see אֶת־ H853 כָּל־ H3605 all יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ H3478 all Israel נְפוֹצִ֣ים H6327 scattered עַל־ H5921 on הֶֽהָרִ֔ים H2022 upon the mountains כַּצֹּ֕אן H6629 as sheep אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which אֵין־ H369 have לָהֶ֖ן H0 רֹעֶ֑ה H7462 that have no shepherd וַיֹּ֤אמֶר H559 said יְהוָה֙ H3068 and the LORD לֹֽא־ H3808 have no אֲדֹנִ֣ים H113 These have no master לָאֵ֔לֶּה H428 These יָשׁ֥וּבוּ H7725 let them return אִישׁ־ H376 every man לְבֵית֖וֹ H1004 to his house בְּשָׁלֽוֹם׃ H7965 in peace

¹⁷ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר H559 said מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 And the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 of Israel אֶל־ H413 to יְהוֹשָׁפָ֑ט H3092 to Jehoshaphat הֲלֹא֙ H3808 not אָמַ֣רְתִּי H559 Did I not tell אֵלֶ֔יךָ H413 about לֹא־ H3808 not יִתְנַבֵּ֥א H5012 thee he would not prophesy עָלַ֛י H5921 concerning ט֖וֹב H2896 good כִּ֥י H3588 for אִם־ H518 lo לְרָֽע׃ H7451 adversity ס

¹⁸ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר H559 Again he said לָכֵ֖ן H3651 Therefore שִׁמְע֣וּ H8085 Therefore hear דְבַר־ H1697 the word יְהוָ֑ה H3068 of the LORD רָאִ֤יתִי H7200 I saw אֶת־ H853 יְהוָה֙ H3068 the LORD יוֹשֵׁ֣ב H3427 sitting עַל־ H5921 on כִּסְא֔וֹ H3678 upon his throne וְכָל־ H3605 and all צְבָ֤א H6635 and all the host הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ H8064 of heaven עֹֽמְדִ֔ים H5975 standing עַל־ H5921 on יְמִינ֖וֹ H3225 on his right hand וּשְׂמֹאלֽוֹ׃ H8040 and his left

¹⁹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 said יְהוָ֗ה H3068 And the LORD מִ֤י H4310 Who יְפַתֶּה֙ H6601 Who shall entice אֶת־ H853 אַחְאָ֣ב H256 Ahab מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 king יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel וְיַ֕עַל H5927 that he may go up וְיִפֹּ֖ל H5307 and fall בְּרָמ֣וֹת H7433 Ramoth-gilead גִּלְעָ֑ד H1568 Gilead וַיֹּ֕אמֶר H559 saying זֶ֚ה H2088 another אֹמֵ֣ר H559 and another saying כָּ֔כָה H3602 after this manner וְזֶ֖ה H2088 another אֹמֵ֥ר H559 said כָּֽכָה׃ H3602 after that manner

²⁰ וַיֵּצֵ֣א H3318 Then there came out הָר֗וּחַ H7307 a spirit וַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙ H5975 and stood לִפְנֵ֣י H6440 before יְהוָ֔ה H3068 the LORD וַיֹּ֖אמֶר H559 and said אֲנִ֣י H589 I אֲפַתֶּ֑נּוּ H6601 I will entice וַיֹּ֧אמֶר H559 said יְהוָ֛ה H3068 him And the LORD אֵלָ֖יו H413 about בַּמָּֽה׃ H4100 He

²¹ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר H559 And he said אֵצֵא֙ H3318 I will go out וְהָיִ֙יתִי֙ H1961 become לְר֣וּחַ H7307 spirit שֶׁ֔קֶר H8267 and be a lying בְּפִ֖י H6310 in the mouth כָּל־ H3605 of all נְבִיאָ֑יו H5030 of all his prophets וַיֹּ֗אמֶר H559 And said תְּפַתֶּה֙ H6601 Thou shalt entice וְגַם־ H1571 also תּוּכָ֔ל H3201 and thou shalt also prevail צֵ֖א H3318 go out וַעֲשֵׂה־ H6213 and do כֵֽן׃ H3651 after that

²² וְעַתָּ֗ה H6258 Now הִנֵּ֨ה H2009 behold נָתַ֤ן H5414 hath put יְהוָה֙ H3068 Now therefore behold the LORD ר֣וּחַ H7307 spirit שֶׁ֔קֶר H8267 a lying בְּפִ֖י H6310 in the mouth נְבִיאֶ֣יךָ H5030 of these thy prophets אֵ֑לֶּה H428 of these וַֽיהוָ֔ה H3068 and the LORD דִּבֶּ֥ר H1696 hath spoken עָלֶ֖יךָ H5921 against רָעָֽה׃ H7451 evil ס

²³ וַיִּגַּשׁ֙ H5066 came near צִדְקִיָּ֣הוּ H6667 Then Zedekiah בֶֽן־ H1121 the son כְּנַעֲנָ֔ה H3668 of Chenaanah וַיַּ֥ךְ H5221 and smote אֶת־ H853 מִיכָ֖יְהוּ H4321 Micaiah עַל־ H5921 on הַלֶּ֑חִי H3895 upon the cheek וַיֹּ֗אמֶר H559 and said אֵ֣י H335 Which זֶ֤ה H2088 he הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ H1870 way עָבַ֧ר H5674 went רֽוּחַ־ H7307 the Spirit יְהוָ֛ה H3068 of the LORD מֵאִתִּ֖י H853 לְדַבֵּ֥ר H1696 from me to speak אֹתָֽךְ׃ H854 for

²⁴ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 said מִיכָ֔יְהוּ H4321 And Micaiah הִנְּךָ֥ H2005 behold רֹאֶ֖ה H7200 Behold thou shalt see בַּיּ֣וֹם H3117 on that day הַה֑וּא H1931 he אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 when תָּב֛וֹא H935 when thou shalt go חֶ֥דֶר H2315 into an inner בְּחֶ֖דֶר H2315 chamber לְהֵחָבֵֽא׃ H2244 to hide

²⁵ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 said מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 Then the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel קְחוּ֙ H3947 Take אֶת־ H853 מִיכָ֔יְהוּ H4321 ye Micaiah וַהֲשִׁיבֻ֖הוּ H7725 and carry him back אֶל־ H413 to אָמ֣וֹן H526 to Amon שַׂר־ H8269 the governor הָעִ֑יר H5892 of the city וְאֶל־ H413 and to יוֹאָ֖שׁ H3101 and to Joash בֶּן־ H1121 son הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ H4428 the king's

²⁶ וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֗ם H559 And say כֹּ֚ה H3541 Thus אָמַ֣ר H559 Thus saith הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ H4428 the king שִׂ֥ימוּ H7760 Put זֶ֖ה H2088 this בֵּ֣ית H1004 court הַכֶּ֑לֶא H3608 prison וְהַאֲכִלֻ֜הוּ H398 and feed לֶ֤חֶם H3899 him with bread לַ֙חַץ֙ H3906 of affliction וּמַ֣יִם H4325 and with water לַ֔חַץ H3906 of affliction עַ֖ד H5704 until שׁוּבִ֥י H7725 until I return בְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ H7965 in peace

²⁷ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 said מִיכָ֔יְהוּ H4321 And Micaiah אִם־ H518 If שׁ֤וֹב H7725 If thou certainly תָּשׁוּב֙ H7725 return בְּשָׁל֔וֹם H7965 in peace לֹא־ H3808 has not דִבֶּ֥ר H1696 spoken יְהוָ֖ה H3068 hath not the LORD בִּ֑י H0 וַיֹּ֕אמֶר H559 by me And he said שִׁמְע֖וּ H8085 Hearken עַמִּ֥ים H5971 all ye people כֻּלָּֽם׃ H3605 all פ

²⁸ וַיַּ֧עַל H5927 went up מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 So the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל H3478 of Israel וִֽיהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט H3092 and Jehoshaphat מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 the king יְהוּדָ֖ה H3063 of Judah אֶל־ H413 against רָמֹ֥ת H7433 Ramoth-gilead גִּלְעָֽד׃ H1568 Gilead

²⁹ וַיֹּאמֶר֩ H559 said מֶ֨לֶךְ H4428 And the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל H3478 of Israel אֶל־ H413 to יְהוֹשָׁפָ֗ט H3092 unto Jehoshaphat הִתְחַפֵּשׂ֙ H2664 I will disguise וָב֣וֹא H935 myself and will go בַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה H4421 to the battle וְאַתָּ֖ה H859 you לְבַ֣שׁ H3847 but put בְּגָדֶ֑יךָ H899 thou on thy robes וַיִּתְחַפֵּשׂ֙ H2664 disguised מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 So the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ H935 himself and they went בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ H4421 to the battle

³⁰ וּמֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 Now the king אֲרָ֡ם H758 of Syria צִוָּה֩ H6680 had commanded אֶת־ H853 שָׂרֵ֨י H8269 the captains הָרֶ֤כֶב H7393 of the chariots אֲשֶׁר־ H834 after לוֹ֙ H0 לֵאמֹ֔ר H559 that with him saying לֹ֚א H3808 not תִּלָּ֣חֲמ֔וּ H3898 Fight אֶת־ H854 with הַקָּטֹ֖ן H6996 ye not with small אֶת־ H854 or הַגָּד֑וֹל H1419 or great כִּ֛י H3588 for אִֽם־ H518 lo אֶת־ H854 with מֶ֥לֶךְ H4428 save only with the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 of Israel לְבַדּֽוֹ׃ H905 alone

³¹ וַיְהִ֡י H1961 become כִּרְאוֹת֩ H7200 saw שָׂרֵ֨י H8269 And it came to pass when the captains הָרֶ֜כֶב H7393 of the chariots אֶת־ H853 יְהוֹשָׁפָ֗ט H3092 Jehoshaphat וְהֵ֤מָּה H1992 they אָֽמְרוּ֙ H559 that they said מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 It the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל H3478 of Israel ה֔וּא H1931 and they וַיָּסֹ֥בּוּ H5437 Therefore they compassed about עָלָ֖יו H5921 against לְהִלָּחֵ֑ם H3898 him to fight וַיִּזְעַ֤ק H2199 cried out יְהֽוֹשָׁפָט֙ H3092 but Jehoshaphat וַֽיהוָ֣ה H3068 and the LORD עֲזָר֔וֹ H5826 helped וַיְסִיתֵ֥ם H5496 moved אֱלֹהִ֖ים H430 him and God מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ H4480 at

³² וַיְהִ֗י H1961 become כִּרְאוֹת֙ H7200 perceived שָׂרֵ֣י H8269 For it came to pass that when the captains הָרֶ֔כֶב H7393 of the chariots כִּ֥י H3588 for לֹא־ H3808 not הָיָ֖ה H1961 become מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 that it was not the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 of Israel וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ H7725 they turned back again מֵאַחֲרָֽיו׃ H310 from pursuing

³³ וְאִ֗ישׁ H376 man מָשַׁ֤ךְ H4900 And a man drew בַּקֶּ֙שֶׁת֙ H7198 a bow לְתֻמּ֔וֹ H8537 at a venture וַיַּךְ֙ H5221 and smote אֶת־ H853 מֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel בֵּ֥ין H996 in הַדְּבָקִ֖ים H1694 between the joints וּבֵ֣ין H996 among הַשִּׁרְיָ֑ן H8302 of the harness וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 therefore he said לָֽרַכָּ֗ב H7395 to his chariot הֲפֹ֧ךְ H2015 Turn <יָדֶיךָ כ> (יָדְךָ֛ H3027 able ק) וְהוֹצֵאתַ֥נִי H3318 that thou mayest carry me out מִן־ H4480 out הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה H4264 of the host כִּ֥י H3588 for הָחֳלֵֽיתִי׃ H2470 for I am wounded

³⁴ וַתַּ֤עַל H5927 increased הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ H4421 And the battle בַּיּ֣וֹם H3117 that day הַה֔וּא H1931 he וּמֶ֣לֶךְ H4428 howbeit the king יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל H3478 of Israel הָיָ֨ה H1961 become מַעֲמִ֧יד H5975 stayed up בַּמֶּרְכָּבָ֛ה H4818 in chariot נֹ֥כַח H5227 against אֲרָ֖ם H758 the Syrians עַד־ H5704 until הָעָ֑רֶב H6153 until the even וַיָּ֕מָת H4191 he died לְעֵ֖ת H6256 and about the time בּ֥וֹא H935 going down הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ H8121 of the sun

¹ וַ֠יָּשָׁב H7725 returned יְהוֹשָׁפָ֨ט H3092 And Jehoshaphat מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 the king יְהוּדָ֧ה H3063 of Judah אֶל־ H413 to his בֵּית֛וֹ H1004 to his house בְּשָׁל֖וֹם H7965 in peace לִֽירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 to Jerusalem

² וַיֵּצֵ֣א H3318 went out אֶל־ H413 to פָּנָ֗יו H6440 to meet יֵה֣וּא H3058 And Jehu בֶן־ H1121 the son חֲנָ֘נִי֮ H2607 of Hanani הַחֹזֶה֒ H2374 the seer וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 him and said אֶל־ H413 to הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ H4428 to king יְהוֹשָׁפָ֔ט H3092 Jehoshaphat הֲלָרָשָׁ֣ע H7563 the ungodly לַעְזֹ֔ר H5826 Shouldest thou help וּלְשֹׂנְאֵ֥י H8130 them that hate יְהוָ֖ה H3068 the LORD תֶּאֱהָ֑ב H157 and love וּבָזֹאת֙ H2063 likewise עָלֶ֣יךָ H5921 and קֶּ֔צֶף H7110 wrath מִלִּפְנֵ֖י H6440 upon thee from before יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 the LORD

³ אֲבָ֕ל H61 Nevertheless דְּבָרִ֥ים H1697 things טוֹבִ֖ים H2896 there are good נִמְצְא֣וּ H4672 found עִמָּ֑ךְ H5973 with כִּֽי־ H3588 for בִעַ֤רְתָּ H1197 in thee in that thou hast taken away הָאֲשֵׁרוֹת֙ H842 the groves מִן־ H4480 from הָאָ֔רֶץ H776 out of the land וַהֲכִינ֥וֹתָ H3559 and hast prepared לְבָבְךָ֖ H3824 thine heart לִדְרֹ֥שׁ H1875 to seek הָֽאֱלֹהִֽים׃ H430 God

⁴ וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב H3427 dwelt יְהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט H3092 And Jehoshaphat בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם H3389 at Jerusalem ס וַיָּ֜שָׁב H7725 again וַיֵּצֵ֣א H3318 and he went out בָעָ֗ם H5971 through the people מִבְּאֵ֥ר H0 שֶׁ֙בַע֙ H884 from Beersheba עַד־ H5704 against הַ֣ר H2022 to mount אֶפְרַ֔יִם H669 Ephraim וַיְשִׁיבֵ֕ם H7725 and brought them back אֶל־ H413 to יְהוָ֖ה H3068 unto the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֥י H430 God אֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ H1 of their fathers

⁵ וַיַּעֲמֵ֨ד H5975 And he set שֹֽׁפְטִ֜ים H8199 judges בָּאָ֗רֶץ H776 in the land בְּכָל־ H3605 all עָרֵ֧י H5892 cities יְהוּדָ֛ה H3063 of Judah הַבְּצֻר֖וֹת H1219 throughout all the fenced לְעִ֥יר H5892 city וָעִֽיר׃ H5892 by city

⁶ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 And said אֶל־ H413 to הַשֹּֽׁפְטִ֗ים H8199 to the judges רְאוּ֙ H7200 Take heed מָֽה־ H4100 what אַתֶּ֣ם H859 you עֹשִׂ֔ים H6213 what ye do כִּ֣י H3588 for לֹ֧א H3808 for לְאָדָ֛ם H120 not for man תִּשְׁפְּט֖וּ H8199 for ye judge כִּ֣י H3588 for לַיהוָ֑ה H3068 but for the LORD וְעִמָּכֶ֖ם H5973 you בִּדְבַ֥ר H1697 render מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ H4941 judgment

⁷ וְעַתָּ֕ה H6258 Now יְהִ֥י H1961 let פַֽחַד־ H6343 Wherefore now let the fear יְהוָ֖ה H3068 of the LORD עֲלֵיכֶ֑ם H5921 and שִׁמְר֣וּ H8104 be upon you take heed וַעֲשׂ֔וּ H6213 and do כִּֽי־ H3588 for אֵ֞ין H369 will have עִם־ H5973 for יְהוָ֣ה H3068 with the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ H430 our God עַוְלָ֛ה H5766 for no iniquity וּמַשֹּׂ֥א H4856 nor respect פָנִ֖ים H6440 of persons וּמִקַּח־ H4727 nor taking שֹֽׁחַד׃ H7810 of gifts

⁸ וְגַ֣ם H1571 also בִּ֠ירוּשָׁלִַם H3389 Moreover in Jerusalem הֶעֱמִ֨יד H5975 set יְהוֹשָׁפָ֜ט H3092 did Jehoshaphat מִן־ H4480 some הַלְוִיִּ֣ם H3881 of the Levites וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים H3548 and the priests וּמֵרָאשֵׁ֤י H7218 and of the chief הָאָבוֹת֙ H1 of the fathers לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel לְמִשְׁפַּ֥ט H4941 for the judgment יְהוָ֖ה H3069 God וְלָרִ֑יב H7379 and for controversies וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ H7725 when they returned יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 to Jerusalem

⁹ וַיְצַ֥ו H6680 And he charged עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם H5921 and לֵאמֹ֑ר H559 them saying כֹּ֤ה H3541 Thus תַעֲשׂוּן֙ H6213 Thus shall ye do בְּיִרְאַ֣ת H3374 in the fear יְהוָ֔ה H3068 of the LORD בֶּאֱמוּנָ֖ה H530 faithfully וּבְלֵבָ֥ב H3824 heart שָׁלֵֽם׃ H8003 and with a perfect

¹⁰ וְכָל־ H3605 any רִיב֩ H7379 And what cause אֲשֶׁר־ H834 Whenever יָב֨וֹא H935 soever shall come עֲלֵיכֶ֜ם H5921 unto מֵאֲחֵיכֶ֣ם ׀ H251 to you of your brethren הַיֹּשְׁבִ֣ים H3427 that dwell בְּעָרֵיהֶ֗ם H5892 in their cities בֵּֽין־ H996 between דָּ֣ם ׀ H1818 between blood לְדָם֮ H1818 and blood בֵּין־ H996 between תּוֹרָ֣ה H8451 between law לְמִצְוָה֮ H4687 and commandment לְחֻקִּ֣ים H2706 statutes וּלְמִשְׁפָּטִים֒ H4941 and judgments וְהִזְהַרְתֶּ֣ם H2094 ye shall even warn אֹתָ֔ם H853 וְלֹ֤א H3808 so יֶאְשְׁמוּ֙ H816 them that they trespass לַיהוָ֔ה H3068 not against the LORD וְהָֽיָה־ H1961 may come קֶ֥צֶף H7110 and wrath עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם H5921 and וְעַל־ H5921 on אֲחֵיכֶ֑ם H251 come upon you and upon your brethren כֹּ֥ה H3541 this תַעֲשׂ֖וּן H6213 do וְלֹ֥א H3808 so תֶאְשָֽׁמוּ׃ H816 and ye shall not trespass

¹¹ וְהִנֵּ֡ה H2009 Behold אֲמַרְיָ֣הוּ H568 And behold Amariah כֹהֵן֩ H3548 priest הָרֹ֨אשׁ H7218 the chief עֲלֵיכֶ֜ם H5921 will be over לְכֹ֣ל H3605 all דְּבַר־ H1697 over you in all matters יְהוָ֗ה H3068 of the LORD וּזְבַדְיָ֨הוּ H2069 and Zebadiah בֶן־ H1121 the son יִשְׁמָעֵ֜אל H3458 of Ishmael הַנָּגִ֤יד H5057 the ruler לְבֵית־ H1004 of the house יְהוּדָה֙ H3063 of Judah לְכֹ֣ל H3605 all דְּבַר־ H1697 matters הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ H4428 for all the king's וְשֹׁטְרִ֥ים H7860 officers הַלְוִיִּ֖ם H3881 also the Levites לִפְנֵיכֶ֑ם H6440 before חִזְק֣וּ H2388 courageously וַעֲשׂ֔וּ H6213 you Deal וִיהִ֥י H1961 become יְהוָ֖ה H3068 and the LORD עִם־ H5973 be with הַטּֽוֹב׃ H2896 shall be with the good פ

¹ וַיְהִ֣י H1961 came אַֽחֲרֵיכֵ֡ן H310 It came to pass after this בָּ֣אוּ H935 came בְנֵי־ H1121 also the children מוֹאָב֩ H4124 of Moab וּבְנֵ֨י H1121 and the children עַמּ֜וֹן H5983 of Ammon וְעִמָּהֶ֧ם ׀ H5973 together מֵֽהָעַמּוֹנִ֛ים H5984 and with them beside the Ammonites עַל־ H5921 against יְהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט H3092 against Jehoshaphat לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ H4421 to battle

² וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ H935 Then there came וַיַּגִּ֤ידוּ H5046 some that told לִֽיהוֹשָׁפָט֙ H3092 Jehoshaphat לֵאמֹ֔ר H559 saying בָּ֣א H935 There cometh עָלֶ֜יךָ H5921 against הָמ֥וֹן H1995 multitude רָ֛ב H7227 a great מֵעֵ֥בֶר H5676 against thee from beyond לַיָּ֖ם H3220 the sea מֵאֲרָ֑ם H758 on this side Syria וְהִנָּם֙ H2009 and behold בְּחַֽצְצ֣וֹן H0 תָּמָ֔ר H2688 and behold they in Hazazontamar הִ֖יא H1931 he עֵ֥ין H0 גֶּֽדִי׃ H5872 which Engedi

³ וַיִּרָ֕א H3372 feared וַיִּתֵּ֧ן H5414 and set יְהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט H3092 And Jehoshaphat אֶת־ H853 פָּנָ֖יו H6440 himself לִדְר֣וֹשׁ H1875 to seek לַיהוָ֑ה H3068 the LORD וַיִּקְרָא־ H7121 and proclaimed צ֖וֹם H6685 a fast עַל־ H5921 throughout כָּל־ H3605 all יְהוּדָֽה׃ H3063 all Judah

⁴ וַיִּקָּבְצ֣וּ H6908 gathered themselves together יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 And Judah לְבַקֵּ֖שׁ H1245 to ask מֵֽיְהוָ֑ה H3068 of the LORD גַּ֚ם H1571 even מִכָּל־ H3605 all עָרֵ֣י H5892 even out of all the cities יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah בָּ֖אוּ H935 they came לְבַקֵּ֥שׁ H1245 to seek אֶת־ H853 יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 the LORD

⁵ וַיַּעֲמֹ֣ד H5975 stood יְהוֹשָׁפָ֗ט H3092 And Jehoshaphat בִּקְהַ֧ל H6951 in the congregation יְהוּדָ֛ה H3063 of Judah וִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם H3389 and Jerusalem בְּבֵ֣ית H1004 in the house יְהוָ֑ה H3068 of the LORD לִפְנֵ֖י H6440 before הֶחָצֵ֥ר H2691 court הַחֲדָשָֽׁה׃ H2319 the new

⁶ וַיֹּאמַ֗ר H559 And said יְהוָ֞ה H3068 O LORD אֱלֹהֵ֤י H430 God אֲבֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ H1 of our fathers הֲלֹ֨א H3808 not אַתָּֽה־ H859 you ה֤וּא H1931 he אֱלֹהִים֙ H430 not thou God בַּשָּׁמַ֔יִם H8064 air וְאַתָּ֣ה H859 you מוֹשֵׁ֔ל H4910 reign בְּכֹ֖ל H3605 all מַמְלְכ֣וֹת H4467 thou over all the kingdoms הַגּוֹיִ֑ם H1471 Gentile וּבְיָדְךָ֙ H3027 your hand כֹּ֣חַ H3581 power וּגְבוּרָ֔ה H1369 and might וְאֵ֥ין H369 no עִמְּךָ֖ H5973 against לְהִתְיַצֵּֽב׃ H3320 so that none is able to withstand

⁷ הֲלֹ֣א ׀ H3808 not אַתָּ֣ה H859 O אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ H430 not thou our God הוֹרַ֙שְׁתָּ֙ H3423 didst drive out אֶת־ H853 יֹשְׁבֵי֙ H3427 the inhabitants הָאָ֣רֶץ H776 of this land הַזֹּ֔את H2063 likewise מִלִּפְנֵ֖י H6440 before עַמְּךָ֣ H5971 thy people יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 Israel וַֽתִּתְּנָ֗הּ H5414 and gavest לְזֶ֛רַע H2233 it to the seed אַבְרָהָ֥ם H85 of Abraham אֹֽהַבְךָ֖ H157 thy friend לְעוֹלָֽם׃ H5769 alway

⁸ וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ־ H3427 And they dwelt בָ֑הּ H0 וַיִּבְנ֨וּ H1129 therein and have built לְךָ֧ ׀ H0 בָּ֛הּ H0 מִקְדָּ֖שׁ H4720 thee a sanctuary לְשִׁמְךָ֥ H8034 therein for thy name לֵאמֹֽר׃ H559 saying

⁹ אִם־ H518 Should תָּב֨וֹא H935 cometh עָלֵ֜ינוּ H5921 and רָעָ֗ה H7451 If evil חֶרֶב֮ H2719 upon us the sword שְׁפוֹט֮ H8196 judgment וְדֶ֣בֶר H1698 or pestilence וְרָעָב֒ H7458 or famine נַֽעַמְדָ֞ה H5975 we stand לִפְנֵ֨י H6440 before הַבַּ֤יִת H1004 this house הַזֶּה֙ H2088 this וּלְפָנֶ֔יךָ H6440 and in thy presence כִּ֥י H3588 שִׁמְךָ֖ H8034 (for thy name בַּבַּ֣יִת H1004 house הַזֶּ֑ה H2088 this וְנִזְעַ֥ק H2199 assemble אֵלֶ֛יךָ H413 to you מִצָּרָתֵ֖נוּ H6869 unto thee in our affliction וְתִשְׁמַ֥ע H8085 then thou wilt hear וְתוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃ H3467 and help

¹⁰ וְעַתָּ֡ה H6258 Now הִנֵּה֩ H2009 behold בְנֵֽי־ H1121 And now behold the children עַמּ֨וֹן H5983 of Ammon וּמוֹאָ֜ב H4124 and Moab וְהַר־ H2022 and mount שֵׂעִ֗יר H8165 Seir אֲ֠שֶׁר H834 whom לֹֽא־ H3808 did not נָתַ֤תָּה H5414 whom thou wouldest not let לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ H3478 Israel לָב֣וֹא H935 invade בָהֶ֔ם H0 בְּבֹאָ֖ם H935 when they came out מֵאֶ֣רֶץ H776 of the land מִצְרָ֑יִם H4714 of Egypt כִּ֛י H3588 סָ֥רוּ H5493 but they turned מֵעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם H5921 and וְלֹ֥א H3808 and did not הִשְׁמִידֽוּם׃ H8045 from them and destroyed

¹¹ וְהִ֨נֵּה־ H2009 see הֵ֔ם H1992 like גֹּמְלִ֖ים H1580 Behold they reward עָלֵ֑ינוּ H5921 by לָבוֹא֙ H935 us to come לְגָ֣רְשֵׁ֔נוּ H1644 to cast us out מִיְּרֻשָּׁתְךָ֖ H3425 of thy possession אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which הֽוֹרַשְׁתָּֽנוּ׃ H3423 which thou hast given us to inherit

¹² אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ H430 O our God הֲלֹ֣א H3808 nor תִשְׁפָּט־ H8199 wilt thou not judge בָּ֔ם H0 כִּ֣י H3588 for אֵ֥ין H369 else בָּ֙נוּ֙ H0 כֹּ֔חַ H3581 them? for we have no might לִ֠פְנֵי H6440 against הֶהָמ֥וֹן H1995 company הָרָ֛ב H7227 this great הַזֶּ֖ה H2088 this הַבָּ֣א H935 that cometh עָלֵ֑ינוּ H5921 against וַאֲנַ֗חְנוּ H587 we לֹ֤א H3808 nor נֵדַע֙ H3045 against us neither know מַֽה־ H4100 what נַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה H6213 what to do כִּ֥י H3588 for עָלֶ֖יךָ H5921 against עֵינֵֽינוּ׃ H5869 but our eyes

¹³ וְכָ֨ל־ H3605 All יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 And all Judah עֹמְדִ֖ים H5975 stood לִפְנֵ֣י H6440 before יְהוָ֑ה H3068 the LORD גַּם־ H1571 with טַפָּ֖ם H2945 their little ones נְשֵׁיהֶ֥ם H802 their wives וּבְנֵיהֶֽם׃ H1121 and their children פ

¹⁴ וְיַחֲזִיאֵ֡ל H3166 Then upon Jahaziel בֶּן־ H1121 the son זְכַרְיָ֡הוּ H2148 of Zechariah בֶּן־ H1121 the son בְּ֠נָיָה H1141 of Benaiah בֶּן־ H1121 the son יְעִיאֵ֧ל H3273 of Jeiel בֶּן־ H1121 the son מַתַּנְיָ֛ה H4983 of Mattaniah הַלֵּוִ֖י H3881 a Levite מִן־ H4480 at בְּנֵ֣י H1121 of the sons אָסָ֑ף H623 of Asaph הָיְתָ֤ה H1961 came עָלָיו֙ H5921 and ר֣וּחַ H7307 came the Spirit יְהוָ֔ה H3068 of the LORD בְּת֖וֹךְ H8432 in the midst הַקָּהָֽל׃ H6951 of the congregation

¹⁵ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר H559 And he said הַקְשִׁ֤יבוּ H7181 Hearken כָל־ H3605 all יְהוּדָה֙ H3063 ye all Judah וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י H3427 and ye inhabitants יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם H3389 of Jerusalem וְהַמֶּ֖לֶךְ H4428 and thou king יְהוֹשָׁפָ֑ט H3092 Jehoshaphat כֹּֽה־ H3541 thus אָמַ֨ר H559 Thus saith יְהוָ֜ה H3068 the LORD לָכֶ֗ם H0 אַ֠תֶּם H859 you אַל־ H408 not תִּֽירְא֤וּ H3372 unto you Be not afraid וְאַל־ H408 not תֵּחַ֙תּוּ֙ H2865 nor dismayed מִפְּנֵ֨י H6440 by reason הֶהָמ֤וֹן H1995 multitude הָרָב֙ H7227 of this great הַזֶּ֔ה H2088 of this כִּ֣י H3588 for לֹ֥א H3808 not לָכֶ֛ם H0 הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה H4421 for the battle כִּ֥י H3588 but לֵאלֹהִֽים׃ H430 not yours but God's

¹⁶ מָחָר֙ H4279 To morrow רְד֣וּ H3381 go ye down עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם H5921 against הִנָּ֥ם H2005 behold עֹלִ֖ים H5927 against them behold they come up בְּמַעֲלֵ֣ה H4608 by the cliff הַצִּ֑יץ H6732 of Ziz וּמְצָאתֶ֤ם H4672 and ye shall find אֹתָם֙ H853 בְּס֣וֹף H5490 them at the end הַנַּ֔חַל H5158 of the brook פְּנֵ֖י H6440 before מִדְבַּ֥ר H4057 the wilderness יְרוּאֵֽל׃ H3385 of Jeruel

¹⁷ לֹ֥א H3808 not לָכֶ֖ם H0 לְהִלָּחֵ֣ם H3898 Ye shall not to fight בָּזֹ֑את H2063 in this הִתְיַצְּב֣וּ H3320 set עִמְד֡וּ H5975 yourselves stand וּרְא֣וּ H7200 ye and see אֶת־ H853 יְשׁוּעַת֩ H3444 the salvation יְהוָ֨ה H3068 of the LORD עִמָּכֶ֜ם H5973 your behalf יְהוּדָ֣ה H3063 with you O Judah וִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֗ם H3389 and Jerusalem אַל־ H408 nay תִּֽירְאוּ֙ H3372 fear וְאַל־ H408 not תֵּחַ֔תּוּ H2865 not nor be dismayed מָחָר֙ H4279 to morrow צְא֣וּ H3318 go out לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם H6440 against וַיהוָ֖ה H3068 them for the LORD עִמָּכֶֽם׃ H5973 your behalf

¹⁸ וַיִּקֹּ֧ד H6915 bowed יְהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט H3092 And Jehoshaphat אַפַּ֖יִם H639 his head with face אָ֑רְצָה H776 to the ground וְכָל־ H3605 and all יְהוּדָ֞ה H3063 and all Judah וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י H3427 and the inhabitants יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם H3389 of Jerusalem נָֽפְלוּ֙ H5307 fell לִפְנֵ֣י H6440 before יְהוָ֔ה H3068 the LORD לְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֹ֖ת H7812 worshipping לַיהוָֽה׃ H3068 the LORD

¹⁹ וַיָּקֻ֧מוּ H6965 stood up הַלְוִיִּ֛ם H3881 And the Levites מִן־ H4480 from בְּנֵ֥י H1121 of the children הַקְּהָתִ֖ים H6956 of the Kohathites וּמִן־ H4480 and of בְּנֵ֣י H1121 and of the children הַקָּרְחִ֑ים H7145 of the Korhites לְהַלֵּ֗ל H1984 to praise לַיהוָה֙ H3068 the LORD אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 God יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 of Israel בְּק֥וֹל H6963 voice גָּד֖וֹל H1419 with a loud לְמָֽעְלָה׃ H4605 on high

²⁰ וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣ימוּ H7925 And they rose early בַבֹּ֔קֶר H1242 in the morning וַיֵּצְא֖וּ H3318 and went forth לְמִדְבַּ֣ר H4057 into the wilderness תְּק֑וֹעַ H8620 of Tekoa וּבְצֵאתָ֞ם H3318 and as they went forth עָמַ֣ד H5975 stood יְהוֹשָׁפָ֗ט H3092 Jehoshaphat וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 and said שְׁמָע֗וּנִי H8085 Hear יְהוּדָה֙ H3063 me O Judah וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י H3427 and ye inhabitants יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם H3389 of Jerusalem הַאֲמִ֜ינוּ H539 Believe בַּיהוָ֤ה H3068 in the LORD אֱלֹהֵיכֶם֙ H430 your God וְתֵ֣אָמֵ֔נוּ H539 so shall ye be established הַאֲמִ֥ינוּ H539 believe בִנְבִיאָ֖יו H5030 his prophets וְהַצְלִֽיחוּ׃ H6743 so shall ye prosper

²¹ וַיִּוָּעַץ֙ H3289 And when he had consulted אֶל־ H413 with הָעָ֔ם H5971 with the people וַיַּעֲמֵ֤ד H5975 he appointed מְשֹֽׁרֲרִים֙ H7891 singers לַיהוָ֔ה H3068 unto the LORD וּֽמְהַֽלְלִ֖ים H1984 and that should praise לְהַדְרַת־ H1927 the beauty קֹ֑דֶשׁ H6944 of holiness בְּצֵאת֙ H3318 as they went out לִפְנֵ֣י H6440 before הֶֽחָל֔וּץ H2502 the army וְאֹֽמְרִים֙ H559 and to say הוֹד֣וּ H3034 Praise לַיהוָ֔ה H3068 the LORD כִּ֥י H3588 for לְעוֹלָ֖ם H5769 for ever חַסְדּֽוֹ׃ H2617 for his mercy

²² וּבְעֵת֩ H6256 And when הֵחֵ֨לּוּ H2490 they began בְרִנָּ֜ה H7440 to sing וּתְהִלָּ֗ה H8416 and to praise נָתַ֣ן H5414 set יְהוָ֣ה ׀ H3068 the LORD מְ֠אָֽרְבִים H693 ambushments עַל־ H5921 against בְּנֵ֨י H1121 against the children עַמּ֜וֹן H5983 of Ammon מוֹאָ֧ב H4124 Moab וְהַר־ H2022 and mount שֵׂעִ֛יר H8165 Seir הַבָּאִ֥ים H935 which were come לִֽיהוּדָ֖ה H3063 against Judah וַיִּנָּגֵֽפוּ׃ H5062 and they were smitten

²³ וַ֠יַּֽעַמְדוּ H5975 stood up בְּנֵ֨י H1121 For the children עַמּ֧וֹן H5983 of Ammon וּמוֹאָ֛ב H4124 and Moab עַל־ H5921 against יֹשְׁבֵ֥י H3427 against the inhabitants הַר־ H2022 of mount שֵׂעִ֖יר H8165 Seir לְהַחֲרִ֣ים H2763 utterly to slay וּלְהַשְׁמִ֑יד H8045 and destroy וּכְכַלּוֹתָם֙ H3615 and when they had made an end בְּיוֹשְׁבֵ֣י H3427 of the inhabitants שֵׂעִ֔יר H8165 of Seir עָזְר֥וּ H5826 helped אִישׁ־ H376 every one בְּרֵעֵ֖הוּ H7453 another לְמַשְׁחִֽית׃ H4889 to destroy

²⁴ וִֽיהוּדָ֛ה H3063 And when Judah בָּ֥א H935 came עַל־ H5921 unto הַמִּצְפֶּ֖ה H4707 the lookout לַמִּדְבָּ֑ר H4057 in the wilderness וַיִּפְנוּ֙ H6437 they looked אֶל־ H413 toward הֶ֣הָמ֔וֹן H1995 unto the multitude וְהִנָּ֧ם H2005 behold פְּגָרִ֛ים H6297 and behold they dead bodies נֹפְלִ֥ים H5307 fallen אַ֖רְצָה H776 to the earth וְאֵ֥ין H369 and no פְּלֵיטָֽה׃ H6413 and none escaped

²⁵ וַיָּבֹ֨א H935 came יְהוֹשָׁפָ֣ט H3092 And when Jehoshaphat וְעַמּוֹ֮ H5971 and his people לָבֹ֣ז H962 to take away אֶת־ H853 שְׁלָלָם֒ H7998 the spoil וַיִּמְצְאוּ֩ H4672 of them they found בָהֶ֨ם H0 לָרֹ֜ב H7230 among them in abundance וּרְכ֤וּשׁ H7399 both riches וּפְגָרִים֙ H6297 with the dead bodies וּכְלֵ֣י H3627 jewels חֲמֻד֔וֹת H2530 beauty וַיְנַצְּל֥וּ H5337 which they stripped off לָהֶ֖ם H0 לְאֵ֣ין H369 for themselves more than מַשָּׂ֑א H4853 they could carry away וַיִּֽהְי֞וּ H1961 become יָמִ֧ים H3117 days שְׁלוֹשָׁ֛ה H7969 and they were three בֹּזְזִ֥ים H962 in gathering אֶת־ H853 הַשָּׁלָ֖ל H7998 of the spoil כִּ֥י H3588 because רַב־ H7227 it was so much הֽוּא׃ H1931 he

²⁶ וּבַיּ֣וֹם H3117 day הָרְבִעִ֗י H7243 And on the fourth נִקְהֲלוּ֙ H6950 they assembled לְעֵ֣מֶק H6010 themselves in the valley בְּרָכָ֔ה H1294 of Berachah כִּי־ H3588 for שָׁ֖ם H8033 there בֵּרֲכ֣וּ H1288 for there they blessed אֶת־ H853 יְהוָ֑ה H3068 the LORD עַל־ H5921 and כֵּ֡ן H3651 after that קָֽרְא֞וּ H7121 was called אֶת־ H853 שֵׁ֨ם H8034 therefore the name הַמָּק֥וֹם H4725 of the same place הַה֛וּא H1931 he עֵ֥מֶק H6010 The valley בְּרָכָ֖ה H1294 of Berachah עַד־ H5704 until הַיּֽוֹם׃ H3117 unto this day

²⁷ וַ֠יָּשֻׁבוּ H7725 Then they returned כָּל־ H3605 Every אִ֨ישׁ H376 every man יְהוּדָ֤ה H3063 of Judah וִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ H3389 and Jerusalem וִֽיהוֹשָׁפָ֣ט H3092 and Jehoshaphat בְּרֹאשָׁ֔ם H7218 in the forefront לָשׁ֥וּב H7725 of them to go again אֶל־ H413 to יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם H3389 to Jerusalem בְּשִׂמְחָ֑ה H8057 with joy כִּֽי־ H3588 them שִׂמְּחָ֥ם H8055 had made them to rejoice יְהוָ֖ה H3069 God מֵֽאוֹיְבֵיהֶֽם׃ H341 over their enemies

²⁸ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ H935 And they came יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם H3389 to Jerusalem בִּנְבָלִ֥ים H5035 with psalteries וּבְכִנֹּר֖וֹת H3658 and harps וּבַחֲצֹצְר֑וֹת H2689 and trumpets אֶל־ H413 to בֵּ֖ית H1004 unto the house יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 of the LORD

²⁹ וַיְהִי֙ H1961 become פַּ֣חַד H6343 And the fear אֱלֹהִ֔ים H430 of God עַ֖ל H5921 was on כָּל־ H3605 all מַמְלְכ֣וֹת H4467 was on all the kingdoms הָאֲרָצ֑וֹת H776 of countries בְּשָׁמְעָ֕ם H8085 when they had heard כִּ֚י H3588 for נִלְחַ֣ם H3898 fought יְהוָ֔ה H3068 that the LORD עִ֖ם H5973 against אוֹיְבֵ֥י H341 against the enemies יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ H3478 of Israel

³⁰ וַתִּשְׁקֹ֖ט H8252 was quiet מַלְכ֣וּת H4438 So the realm יְהוֹשָׁפָ֑ט H3092 of Jehoshaphat וַיָּ֧נַֽח H5117 gave him rest ל֦וֹ H0 אֱלֹהָ֖יו H430 for his God מִסָּבִֽיב׃ H5439 round about פ

³² וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ H1980 walked בְּדֶ֛רֶךְ H1870 in the way אָבִ֥יו H1 his father אָסָ֖א H609 of Asa וְלֹא־ H3808 and did not סָ֣ר H5493 and departed מִמֶּ֑נָּה H4480 at לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת H6213 not from it doing הַיָּשָׁ֖ר H3477 right בְּעֵינֵ֥י H5869 in the sight יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 of the LORD

³⁵ וְאַחֲרֵיכֵ֗ן H310 And after אֶתְחַבַּר֙ H2266 join יְהוֹשָׁפָ֣ט H3092 this did Jehoshaphat מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 king יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 of Judah עִ֖ם H5973 with אֲחַזְיָ֣ה H274 himself with Ahaziah מֶֽלֶךְ־ H4428 king יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 of Israel ה֖וּא H1931 He הִרְשִׁ֥יעַ H7561 very wickedly לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ H6213 who did

³⁶ וַיְחַבְּרֵ֣הוּ H2266 And he joined עִמּ֔וֹ H5973 with לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת H6213 himself with him to make אֳנִיּ֖וֹת H591 ships לָלֶ֣כֶת H1980 to go תַּרְשִׁ֑ישׁ H8659 to Tarshish וַיַּעֲשׂ֥וּ H6213 and they made אֳנִיּ֖וֹת H591 the ships בְּעֶצְי֥וֹן H0 גָּֽבֶר׃ H6100 in Eziongeber
