1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.
2 Abraham fathered Isaac, Isaac fathered Jacob, and Jacob fathered Judah and his brothers.
3 Judah fathered Phared and Zara by Tamar; Phares fathered Hezron; Hezron fathered Aram.
4 Aram fathered Aminadab; Aminadab fathered Nahshon; Nahshon fathered Salmon.
5 Salmon fathered Boaz by Rahab; Boaz fathered Obed by Ruth; Obed fathered Jesse.
6 Jesse fathered David the king; David fathered Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah.
7 Solomon fathered Rehoboam; Rehoboam fathered Abijah; Abijah fathered Asa.
8 Asa fathered Jehoshaphat; Jehoshaphat fathered Joram; Joram fathered Uzziah.
9 Uzziah fathered Jotham; Jotham fathered Ahaz; Ahaz fathered Hezekiah.
10 Hezekiah fathered Manasseh; Manasseh fathered Amon; Amon fathered Josiah.
11 Josiah fathered Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were deported to Babylon.
12 After they deported to Babylon, Jeconiah fathered Shealtiel; Shealtiel fathered Zerubbabel.
13 Zerubbabel fathered Abiud; Abiud fathered Eliakim; Eliakim fathered Azor.
14 Azor fathered Sadok; Sadok fathered Achim; Achim fathered Eliud.
15 Eliud fathered Eleazar; Eleazar fathered Matthan; Matthan fathered Jacob.
16 Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary (from whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David up to the deportation to Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ are fourteen generations.
18 Now Jesus Christ's birth was like this: When his mother, Mary, was betrothed to Joseph, before they physically came together, she was discovered to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
19 Then her husband, Joseph, being upright and not willing to publicly disgrace her was intending to divorce here privately.
20 But while he was thinking about these things, lo, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying: Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in is by the Holy Spirit.
21 She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this happened, so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet saying,
23 «Lo, a virgin will be pregnant and will give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel, which being interpreted means: God with us.»
24 Then Joseph waking up from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary as his wife.
25 He did not know her sexually until she had given birth to her firstborn son, and he named him Jesus.
1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem Judea in the days of King Herod, lo and behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem,
2 saying, "Where is he who is born King of the Jews, for we have seen his star in the east and have come to worship him?
3 When King Herod heard this, he became upset and all Jerusalem with him.
4 After he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he demanded from them where Christ would be born.
5 They said to him, "In Bethlehem Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:
6 "And you Bethlehem in the land of Judah are not the least among the princes of Judah, for out of you will come the leader, who will shepherd my people Israel."
7 Then Herod, after privately calling the wise men, questioned them carefully as to what time the star appeared.
8 Then he sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go, search diligently for the young child, and when you have found him, bring me word, so that I may come and worship him, too".
9 After they had heard the king, they left, and look, the star that they saw in the east, went ahead of them until it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding joy.
11 When they came into the house, they saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and kneeling down they worshiped him. After opening their treasures, they presented to him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12 Then being warned by God in a dream that they shouldn't return to Herod, they returned to their own country by different route.
13 After they left, lo and behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream saying, "Get up, and take the young child and his mother, flee to Egypt and stay there until I bring you word, for Herod intends to seek for the young child to kill him.
14 So he got up, took the young child and his mother by night, and left for Egypt.
15 He was there until Herod's death, in order that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet saying, "Out of Egypt have I called my son."
16 Then Herod seeing that he was tricked by the wise men was raging with anger and sent out and killed all the children in Bethlehem and the surrounding area from two years and under according to the time that he inquired from the wise men.
17 At that time what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled which said,
18 "In Ramah a sound was heard, wailing, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and could not be comforted, for they are no more."
19 But after Herod was dead, lo and behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in Egypt in a dream, who said,
20 "Get up, take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child's life are dead."
21 Then he got up, took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus reigned in Judah in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside to the regions of Galilee
23 and came and lived in a city named Nazareth, in order that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by the prophets, "He will be called a Nazarene."
1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judah
2 saying, "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is close at hand".
3 For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet who said, "The voice of one shouting in the wilderness: prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight."
4 This same John had clothes of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
5 Then Jerusalem, all Judah, and the entire region around the Jordan went to him.
6 They were baptized by him in the Jordan while confessing their sins.
7 But when many of the Pharisees and Sadducees came to his baptism, he said to them, "O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee the coming wrath?
8 "Therefore produce fruits worthy of repentance.
9 "Don't think to say within yourselves, "We have Abraham for our father," for I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.
10 "Now also the ax is laid to the root of the tree; therefore every tree that doesn't produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
11 "It's true that I baptize you with water at repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry, he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit or fire.
12 "Whose winnowing shovel is in his hand. He will thoroughly clean his floor and gather his wheat into the granary, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John in order to be baptized by him.
14 But John prevented him saying, "I have need to be baptized by you and you come to me?
15 Jesus answered him, "Allow it now, for it is proper for us to fulfill all righteousness like this." Then he allowed him.
16 After he was baptized, Jesus immediately got up out of the water and look the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the God's Spirit coming down like a dove and lighting on him.
17 And lo a voice from heaven that said, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased."
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 After he fasting forty days and forty nights, by then he was hungry.
3 When the tempter came to him, he said, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."
4 But he replied and said, "It has been written: Man will not live by bread only but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God."
5 Then the devil took him up into the holy city and set him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it has been written: He will command his angels concerning you, and they will hold you up with their hands, lest at any time you whack your foot against a stone."
7 Jesus said to him, "Yet again it has been written: You will not tempt the Lord your God."
8 Again the devil took him up on a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, Mat 4:9 and said to him, "All these things I will give you, if you will kneel down and worship me."

10 Then Jesus said him, "Get out of here, Satan, for it has been written, "You will worship the Lord your God and serve only him."
11 Then the devils left him, and look! Angels came and ministered to him.
12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was thrown into prison, he left for Galilee.
13 Then leaving Nazareth, he came and lived in Capernaum, which is on the sea coast by the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14 so that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet saying,
15 "Land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the road to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
16 the people sitting in darkness saw great light and to those sitting in the region and shadow of death, light is risen up."
17 From that time Jesus started to preach and say, "Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is near at hand."
18 Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon named Peter and Andrew his brother, throwing a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
19 He said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishermen of people."
20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
21 Leaving there he saw two others brothers, James, son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them
22 Immediately they left the ship and their father and followed him.
23 Jesus went around all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and types of disease among the people.
24 His fame went throughout all of Syria, too, and they brought to him all sick people who were afflicted with different diseases and severe pains, those who were possessed with devils, those who were mentally ill, and those who were paralyzed. He healed them all.
25 Great crowds of people followed him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judah, and the other side of the Jordan.
1 Seeing the large crowds, he went up to a mountain, and after sitting down, his disciples came to him,
2 and opening his mouth, he started teaching them saying:
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 "Blessed are humble, gentle people, for they will inherit the earth.
6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they will obtain mercy.
8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will called the children of God.
10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
11 "You are blessed when people verbally abuse and persecute you and say all kinds of evil, wicked things about you falsely for my sake.
12 "Rejoice and be very happy, for your reward in heaven is great, for they persecuted the prophets who were before you in this way.
13 "You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how can it be used to salt something? Now it is good for nothing except to be thrown out and walked on by people.
14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 "People do not light a candle and put it under a basket but on a candlestick, and it gives its light to all who are in the house.
16 "Let you light shine like this before men, so they can see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
17 "Don't think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
18 "Truly I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will not in any way pass from the law until everything is fulfilled.
19 "Therefore whoever breaks one of the least commandments and teach others so will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven, but whoever does and teaches these will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
20 "For I say to you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Scribes and Pharisees, you will not in any way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
21 "You have heard it said by those in the past: You must not murder and whoever does murder will be in danger of The Judgment.
22 "And I tell you: that whoever is angry with his brother without a just reason will be in danger of The Judgment, and whoever says to his brother, "Raca," will be in danger of the Council, but whoever says, "You fool! Will be in danger of the fire of hell.
23 "Therefore when you bring your gift to the altar and while there you remember that your brother has something against you,
24 then leave your gift in front of the altar and go away. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
25 "Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the road with him, lest the adversary give you over to the judge, the judge hand you over to the law officer, and you are thrown into prison.
26 "Truly I say to you: You will in no way come out of there until you have paid the very last farthing.
27 "You have heard it said by those in the past: you will not commit adultery.
28 "But I say to you that whoever looks on a woman to lust for her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 "And if your right eye causes you to sin, pull it out and throw it away from you, for it is better for you that one of your body parts gets destroyed instead of your whole body being thrown into hell.
30 "And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you, for it is better for you that one of your body parts gets destroyed instead of your whole body being thrown into hell.
31 "It has been said that whoever wanted to divorce his wife gave her a written notice of divorce,
32 but I say to you that whoever divorces his wife except for the reason of fornication, causes her to commit adultery, and whoever will marry her who is divorced commits adultery.
33 "Again you have heard it said by those in the past: you must not make a solemn promise but will keep your promise to the Lord concerning your oaths.
34 "But I say to you: do not swear at all, not by heaven, for it is God's throne,
35 nor by the earth, for it is his footstool, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.
36 "Do not swear by your head either, because you can not make one hair white or black.
37 "Instead let your word be yes for yes and no for no, for whatever is more than these comes from evil.
38 "You have heard it said: an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, [39] but I say to you: do not fight back evil, instead whoever hits you on your right cheek, turn to him the other side also.

40 "And if any one sues you in court and take away your shirt, let him have your jacket, too.
41 "Whoever forces you to go a mile, go with him two.
42 "Give to him who asks from you, and him who would borrow from you, do not turn away.
43 "You have heard that it has been said, "You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy,
44 but I say to you: Love your enemies; bless those who curse you; do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
45 so that you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
46 "For if you love those who love you, what is your reward? Don't even the tax collectors do the same?
47 "And if you greet your brethren only, what more do you do than others, don't even the tax collectors do so?
48 "Therefore, be perfect like your Father who is in heaven is perfect."
1 "Be careful that you don't do your charitable works in the presence of people so to be seen by them.
2 "Therefore when you do your charitable works do not sound a trumpet before you like the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets in order that they may have the praise of people. Truly I say to you that they have their reward.
3 "But when you do charitable works, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4 so that your charitable works may be in secret and your Father who sees in secret will himself reward you openly.
5 "When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and street corners, so that they may be seen by people. Truly I say to you that they have their reward.
6 "Instead when you pray, enter a private place, and after you have shut the door, then pray to your Father who sees in secret. Your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
7 "When you pray don't go on and on with the same empty phrases like the heathen use, for they think that they will be heard because they talk so much.
8 "Therefore don't be like them, for your Father knows what things you need even before you ask him.
9 "So then pray in this way: «Our Father who is in heaven, your name is very holy.
10 "Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth like it is in heaven.
11 "Give us today our necessary food.
12 "Forgive us our debt of sin, even as we forgive our debtors.
13 "Don't bring us into testing trials instead deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen'
14 "If you forgive people their wrongdoings, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 "But if you do not forgive people their wrongdoings, neither will your Father forgive you your wrongdoings.
16 "Furthermore when you fast, don't be like the hypocrites with a sad expression for they disfigure their faces so they can appear to men to fast. Truly I say to you that they have their reward.
17 "But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
18 so that you don't appear to fast to people but to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
19 " Do not store up treasures on earth for yourselves where moth and rust corrupts and where thieves break in and steal.
20 "Instead store up treasures for yourselves in heaven where neither moth or rust corrupts, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 "For where your treasure is, there is where your heart will be also.
22 "The light of the body is the eye, therefore if your eye is single, your whole body will be full of light.
23 "But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. Therefore if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 "No one can serve two masters, for he will either hate one and love the other or else he will cling closely to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
25 "Therefore I say to you do not be troubled about your life, what you will eat, what you will drink, or about clothes for your body. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothes?
26 "Look at the birds of the air, they don't sow, reap, or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you much better than they?
27 "Which of you can add one cubit to your life by worrying?
28 "And why worry about clothes? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they don't work or spin cloth.
29 "Yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.
30 "Therefore if God dresses the grass of the field which is today but tomorrow is thrown in the oven, won't he even more cloth you, O you of little faith?
31 "Therefore don't worry and say: what will we eat or what will we drink or what will we wear?
32 "For these are what the Gentiles seek, but your heavenly Father knows you need all these things.
33 "Instead first of all seek the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 "Therefore don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have its own worries. The troubles of today are enough.
1 "Do not judge, so that you will not be judged.
2 "For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged, and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you in return.
3 "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the log that is in your eye?
4 "Or why do you say to your brother, «Let me pick out the speck out of your eye', and look, there is a log in your eye?
5 "You hypocrite, first throw out that log from your eye, then you will see clearly to throw out that speck from your brother's eye.
6 "Do not give what is holy to the dogs, neither throw your pearls in the presence of pigs, lest they trample them under their feet, turn around, and tear you to pieces.
7 "Ask and it will given you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened for you,
8 for every one who asks received, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
9 "What man is there among you who if his son asks for bread will give him a stone,
10 or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
11 "If you, then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?
12 "Therefore whatever you want people to do to you, you do so to them, too, for this is the law and the prophets.
13 "Enter in at the narrow gate, for the gate is wide and the road is spacious that leads to destruction, and many are there who go in there.
14 "Because the gate is narrow and the road constricted that leads to life and there are few who find it.
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inside they are ravening wolves.
16 "You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes from thorns or figs from thistles?
17 "So in this way every good tree produces good fruit but a worthless tree produces worthless fruit.
18 "A good tree cannot produce worthless fruit, nor can a worthless tree produce good fruit.
19 "Every tree that doesn't produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 "So then by their fruits you will know them.
21 "Not every one who says to me: "Lord, Lord," will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 "Many will say to me in that day: "Lord, Lord haven't we prophesied in your name and in your name cast out devils and in your name done many miracles?
23 "Then I will openly declare to them: "I never knew you, get away from me, you workers of wickedness.
24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house on a rock.
25 "The rain fell down and floods came, and the wind blew and beat on that house, and it didn't collapse, because it was built on a rock.
26 "And every one who hears these sayings of mine and doesn't do them, will be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
27 "The rain fell down and the floods came; the winds blew and beat on that house, and it collapsed. Great was the fall of it."
28 And it came about, after Jesus had finished these sayings the people were astonished at his teaching, [29] for he taught them as one having authority unlike the scribes.
1 When he had come down from the mountain, large crowds followed him.
2 "Look! A leper came and worshiped him saying, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean."
3 Jesus put out his hand and touched him saying, "I am willing, be clean." Instantly his leprosy was cleansed.
4 "Jesus said to him, "See to it that you tell no one, nevertheless make your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."
5 As Jesus entered into Capernaum, a centurion came to him, pleading with him.
6 Saying, "Lord, my servant lies at home, paralyzed and tormented with intense, violent pain".
7 Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him."
8 The centurion replied and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof. Just only speak the word, and my servant will be healed.
9 "For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. I say to one, "Go," and he goes; and to another, "Come," and he comes; and to my servant, "Do this," and he does it."
10 When Jesus heard this he marveled and said to those who followed, "Truly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel.
11 "I say to you that many will come from the east and the west and will sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the Kingdom of Heaven.
12 "But the children of the kingdom will be thrown out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
13 Jesus said to the centurion, "Go you way, as you have believed, let it be done for you". His servant was healed in that very hour.
14 When Jesus had come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother bedridden and sick with a fever.
15 He touched her hand and the fever left her. She got up and served them.
16 When evening had come, they brought to him many who were possessed with devils, and he throw out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick,
17 so that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet saying: He took our infirmities and bore our diseases.
18 Now when Jesus saw great crowds around him, he gave orders to leave for the other side.
19 A certain scribe came and said to him, "Master, I will follow you wherever you go."
20 Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man doesn't have anywhere to lay his head."
21 Another one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, allow me to first go and bury my father."
22 But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead."
23 He entered a ship; his disciples followed him.
24 Look! A violent storm rose up on the sea, so much so, that the ship was covered with the waves, but he was asleep.
25 His disciples came to him and woke him up saying, "Lord, save us, we are dying.
26 He said to them, "Why, are you afraid, O you of little faith? Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
27 But the men were amazed saying, "What kind of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey him?
28 When he came to the other side into the region of the Gergesenes, two demon-possessed men met him.
29 And look! They shouted saying, "What do we have to do with you, Jesus, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?
30 A ways off from them there was a herd of many pigs feeding, [31] so the devils pleaded with him saying, "If you throw us out, allow us to go into the herd of pigs."

32 He said to them, "Go". After they came out, they went into the herd of pigs, ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and drowned in the waters.
33 Those who kept them, ran off and went their separate way into the city and told everything, and what had happened to the one possessed by devils.
34 And look, the whole city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they pleaded that he would leave their area.
1 He entered a ship, crossed over, and came into his own city.
2 And look, they brought a paralyzed man, lying on a bed. Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralyzed: "Son, take courage; your sins are forgiven."
3 And behold some of the Pharisees, said in themselves, "This man blasphemes."
4 And Jesus knowing thoughts said, "Why do you think this evil in your hearts?
5 "Which is easier to say your sins are forgiven or to say: «get up and walk?»
6 "So that you will know that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to forgive sin"--he then says to the paralyzed--"get up, pick up your bed, and go to your house."
7 So he got up and left for his house.
8 When the crowd saw this, they were amazed and gave glory to God who gave this kind of authority to men.
9 Leaving there Jesus saw a man sitting in the tax collector's office named Matthew, and he said to him, "Follow me", and he got up and followed him.
10 And it so happened that Jesus sat for a meal in the house, and behold, many tax collectors and sinners came to sit for a meal with Jesus and his disciples.
11 When the Pharisees saw this they said to his disciples, "Why is your teacher eating with tax collectors and sinners?
12 But when Jesus heard this he said to them, "Those who are well don't need a physician only those who are sick.
13 "Go and learn what this means, «I want mercy not sacrifice» , for I did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."
14 Then the disciples of John came to him saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees often fast, but your disciples do not fast?
15 Jesus answered them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom grieve while the bridegroom is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them; then they will fast.
16 "No one puts a piece of new cloth on an old garment, for what fills shrinks [pulls away?] and the tear becomes worse.
17 "Nor do they put new wine into old skin bottles, otherwise the skin bottles will break, the wine pours out, and the skin bottles destroyed. Instead put new wine into new skin bottles and both are preserved".
18 While he was speaking these things to them, look, one came, knelt before him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come, lay your hand on her, and she will live."
19 Jesus got up and followed him along with his disciples.
20 And behold, a woman losing blood for twelve years, came behind him and touched the hem of his garment.
21 She said to herself: «If I only touch the hem of his garment, I will be healed.»
22 But Jesus turned around and saw her and said, "Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well." The woman became well at that very moment.
23 When Jesus came into the ruler's house and saw the flute players and the people loudly wailing, [24] he said to them, "Move aside, for the girl is not dead but is sleeping." And they scornfully laughed at him.

25 But when the people were driven out, he went in and took her by the hand and the girl got up.
26 The news of this spread all over that region.
27 After Jesus left there, two blind men followed him, shouting, and saying, "Son of David, have mercy on us."
28 When he had come into the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said, "Do you believe, that I am able to do this"? They said to him, "Yes, Lord."
29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, "As is your faith, so may it be."
30 Their eyes were opened, and Jesus strictly ordered them, saying, "See, that no one knows it."
31 But they, after they had left, spread the news about him, in that entire region.
32 As they left, see, they brought a demon-possessed man [who was] unable to speak.
33 When the devil was thrown out the man [who was] unable to speak, spoke, and the throng was amazed saying, "This has never been seen in Israel!
34 But the Pharisees said, "He throws out devils by the chief of the devils".
35 Jesus went around to all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
36 As he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they grew weak and were scattered like sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is truly great, but the laborers are few,
38 "Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, so that he will send laborers into his harvest."
1 After he had called his twelve disciples, he gave them authority over unclean spirits--to cast them out--and to heal every sickness and every disease.
2 These are the names of the twelve apostles. The first is Simon, who is called Peter, then Andrew, his brother; James the son of Zebedee and John his brother;
3 Philip; Bartholomew; Thomas; Matthew, the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus; then Lebbeus surnamed Thaddaeus;
4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.
5 Jesus sent these twelve out and commanded them saying, "Do not go into the Gentile area and do not enter a Samaritan city.
6 "Go instead to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.
7 "As you travel, preach, saying: «The Kingdom of heaven is close at hand.»
8 "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out devils. You received without cost, so give without cost,
9 don't take gold, silver, or brass in your money belts,
10 or a lunch bag for your journey, or two tunics, sandals, or walking sticks, for the workman is worthy of his food.
11 "Whatever city or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you leave.
12 "When you come into a house, greet those in it.
13 "And if the family is worthy, let you blessing of peace come on it, but if it is not worthy, let your blessing of peace return to you.
14 "Whosoever will not receive you or listen to you message, when you leave that family or city, shake the dust off your feet.
15 "Truly I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Day of Judgment than for that city.
16 "Look, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, therefore be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
17 "But beware of men, for they will hand you over to councils and will flog you in their synagogues.
18 "You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake for a testimony against them and the gentiles.
19 "But when they hand you over, don't be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given to you at that very hour, what you will say.
20 "For it is not you who speaks but the Spirit of your Father who speaks through you.
21 "Brother will hand brother over to death and father the child, and children will rise up against their parents and cause them to be killed.
22 "You will be hated by all for my name's sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.
23 "But when they persecute you in this city, flee to another, for truly I say to you that you will not have gone to every city in Israel before the Son of Man comes.
24 "A disciple is not greater than his teacher or a slave greater than his master.
25 "It is enough for the disciple that he would become like his teacher and the servant like his master. If they have called the head of the family, Beelzebub, then how much more those of his family?
26 "Therefore, don't be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered up that won't be uncovered nor a secret that won't be known.
27 "What I tell in you in the dark, speak in the light, and what you hear with your ear, announce on the housetops.
28 "Do not fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul, instead fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
29 "Aren't two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them can fall to the ground without your Father.
30 "But the very hairs of your head are all counted.
31 "Don't be afraid therefore, you are more valuable than many sparrows.
32 "So then, whosoever will confess me openly before people, I also will confess openly before my Father who is in heaven.
33 "But whosoever denies me before people, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
34 "Don't think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I didn't come to bring peace but a sword.
35 "For I came to alienate a man from his father and the daughter against her mother and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36 "A man's foes will be those of his own family.
37 "He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38 "He who doesn't take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.
39 "He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.
40 "He who welcomes you, welcomes me, and he who welcomes me, welcomes him who sent me.
41 "He who welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and he who welcomes a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward.
42 "Whoever will give a drink to one of these little ones, even just a cup of cold water, because he is a disciple, will, I truly say to you, not lose his reward."
1 Then it came about when Jesus had finished these instructions to his twelve disciples, he left there to teach and preach in their cities.
2 Now when John heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples.
3 And said to him, "Are you the Coming One or do look for another?
4 Jesus answered and said, "Go and tell John again those things which you see and hear:
5 "The blind receive their sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 "Blessed is he who doesn't stumble because of me".
7 As they left, Jesus started talking to the crowd about John, "What did you go out to see in the wilderness, a reed shaking in the wind?
8 "But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothes? Look, those who wear soft clothes are in king's houses.
9 "But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, even more than a prophet.
10 "For this is about whom it is written: Behold, I send my messenger before your face who will prepare your way before you.
11 "Truly, I say to you: Among those born of women, there has not risen any greater than John the Baptist, nevertheless he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
12 "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence and the violent are seizing it.
13 "For all the prophets and the law prophesied up through John.
14 "And if you will receive it, this is Elijah, who was to come.
15 "He who has ears to hear better hear.
16 "But to what will I compare this generation to? It is like children sitting in the markets and calling out to their friends,
17 saying: «We played flutes for you, yet you haven't danced. We have mourned for you, yet you haven't acted as you mourned.
18 "For John came neither eating or drinking, and they say, «He has a devil.»
19 "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say: «Look, a glutton and wino, a friend of tax collectors and sinner.» But wisdom is justified by her children."
20 Then he started to severely rebuke the cities where most of his mighty works were done, because they did not repent.
21 "Woe to you, Chorzain, woe to Bethsaida! If the mighty works, which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 "But I say to you: «It will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the Day of Judgment than for you.
23 "And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to hell, for if the mighty works which were done i:n you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.
24 "But I say to you: «That it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the Day of Judgment than for you".
25 At that time Jesus started to talk, saying, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hid these thing from the experts and the learned and has revealed them to the unlearned.
26 "Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in your sight.
27 "All things are given to me by my Father, and no one fully knows the Son except the Father, neither does anyone fully know the Father except the Son and to whoever the Son is willing to reveal him.
28 "Come to me, all who are exhausted and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 "Take my yoke on you and learn from me, for I am not overbearing, I am lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 "For my yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light."
1 At that time on the Sabbath, Jesus went through the grain fields; his disciples were hungry and started to pick the heads of grain and eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, "Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath".
3 But he said to them, "Haven't you read what David did when he was hungry and those who were with him?
4 "How he went into the House of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for those who were with him; but only for the priests.
5 "Or haven't you read in The Law, how on the Sabbath Days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath yet are blameless?
6 "But I tell you: that in this place is someone greater than the temple.
7 "But if you had really known what this means: «I will have mercy and not sacrifice;' you wouldn't have condemned the guiltless.
8 "For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath".
9 After he left there, he went into their synagogue.
10 And look, there's a man whose hand was withered. They asked him--so they could accuse him--saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath Days?"
11 He said to them, "What man is there among you, who will have one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not get a hold of it and lift it out?
12 "How much more then does a man surpass a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on Sabbath Days".
13 Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand". He stretched it out and it was restored to good health, even as the other.
14 Then the Pharisees left and held a council against him on how they might destroy him.
15 But when Jesus knew, he withdrew from there, and great crowds followed him. He healed them all.
16 He strongly warned them that they must not make him known,
17 so that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet who said,
18 «Look, my servant whom I have chosen, my well beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will announce judgment to the Gentiles.
19 «He will not angrily argue nor make noisy demands, nor will any one hear his voice in the streets.
20 «He will not break a bruised reed or quench smoking flax until he sends out judgment into victory.
21 «And in his name will the Gentiles trust.»
22 Then one possessed with a devil, blind and unable to speak, was brought to him, and he healed him, so much so that the blind and mute both spoke and saw.
23 All the people were amazed and said, "Isn't this the Son of David?"
24 But when the Pharisees heard about it, they said, "He doesn't cast out devils, except by Beelzebub, the prince of devil".
25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or family divided against itself will not continue.
26 "If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom continue?
27 "If I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your followers cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
28 "But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
29 "How then can one enter into a strong man's house, unless he ties up the strong man first, then he will plunder his house.
30 "He who is not with me is against me, and he who doesn't gather with me is scattering.
31 "Therefore I say to you: All kinds of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven of men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven of men.
32 "Whosoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whosoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, not in this age nor in the age to come.
33 "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree worthless and it fruit worthless, for the tree is known by its fruit.
34 "O generation of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good, for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
35 "A good man out of the heart's good treasure brings forth good, but an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil.
36 "I say to you: That for every useless word that people speak, they will give an account of it in the Day of Judgment.
37 "For by your words will you be justified, and by your words will you be judged guilty".
38 Then certain among the Scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, "Master, we want to see a sign from you".
39 But he answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign. There will be no sign given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
40 "For as Jonah was in the giant fish's stomach three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.
41 "The men of Nineveh will rise with this generation at the judgment and condemn it, because they repented at Jonah's preaching and behold, a greater than Jonah is here.
42 "The queen of the south will rise up with this generation at the judgment and will condemn it, for she came from the uttermost part of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
43 "When the unclean spirit has come out of a man, he walks through dry country seeking rest and doesn't find any.
44 "So he says, «I will return into my house from where I came out', and when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and decorated.
45 "Then he continues in and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they will enter and live there. The last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so it will be to this wicked generation as well."
46 While he was still speaking to the people, look, his mother and his brothers were standing outside wanting to speak with him.
47 Someone said to him, "Look, your mother and your brothers are standing outside wanting to speak with you."
48 But he replied and said to him who told him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?"
49 And he stretched out his hand toward is disciples and said, "Behold, my mother and my brother!
50 "For whosoever will do the will of my Father, who is in heaven, the same is my brother, sister, and mother."
1 Jesus went out of the house that same day and sat by the seaside.
2 Great crowds were gathered together near him, so that he went into a ship and sat, and the whole crowd stood on the shore.
3 He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, "Look, a sower went out to sow.
4 "While he sowed, some fell by the road side, and the birds of the air ate them.
5 "Some fell on rocky ground where there wasn't much earth, and they sprung up immediately, but because they had no root, they withered away.
6 "When the sun came up, they were scorched, and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 "Some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprung up and choked them out.
8 "But other fell on good ground, and gave fruit, some a hundred times more, some sixty, and some thirty.
9 "Who has ears to hear, better hear."
10 The disciples came and said to him, "Why do you talk to them in parables?"
11 He answered and said to them, "Because it has been given to you to understand the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but it has not been given to them.
12 "For whoever has, it will be given to him, and he will have even more, but whoever doesn't have, that what he does have will be taken away from him.
13 "That's why I speak to them in parables, because they seeing, do not see, and hearing, do not hear nor do they understand.
14 "The prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled in them that says: «By hearing, you will hear, and will not understand, and seeing, you will see, and not able to see the meaning.»
15 "For this people's heart is callous and their ears are tuned out and their eyes are closed, lest at any time they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and be converted and I would heal them.
16 "But you are blessed for your eyes see and your ears hear.
17 "For truly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men have desired to see what you see and have not seen, and to hear what you hear and have not heard.
18 "Therefore hear the parable of the sower.
19 "When any one hears the word of the kingdom and doesn't understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches what was sown in his heart. This is what landed on the roadside.
20 "And what landed on the rocky ground is he who hears the word and accepts it at once with joy.
21 "Yet he has no root in himself but only endures for awhile, for when hard times or persecution begins because of the word, he just falls away.
22 "What landed among the thorns is he who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the deceitfulness of riches chokes the word and he becomes unfruitful.
23 "But what landed on good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, then bears fruit some a hundred fold, some sixty, some thirty".
24 He told them another parable, saying, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field, [25] but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away.

26 "Now when the plants sprouted and made heads of grain, then the tares appeared also.
27 "So the household servants came and said to him, «Sir, didn't you sow good seed into your field, then where did the tares come from?»
28 He said to them, «An enemy has done this. The servants said to him, «Do you want us to go and gather them?»
29 "But he said, «No, lest while you are gathering the tares, you also pull out the wheat with them.
30 «Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will say to the reapers, "Gather together the tares first and tie them into bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.»»
31 He told them another parable, saying, The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.
32 "That truly in the least of all seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest of herbs and becomes tree like, so that the birds of the air come and live in its branches."
33 He told them another parable, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and mixed in three measures of flour until the whole thing was leavened."
34 Jesus spoke all these things to the multitude in parables, and he did not speak to them except in a parable,
35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, "I will open my mouth in parables; I will speak of things, which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went in the house, and his disciples came to him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares in the field."
37 He answered and said to them, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
38 "The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the Kingdom, but the tares are the children of the wicked.
39 "The enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world, and the reapers are the angels.
40 "Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be in the end of this age.
41 "The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom everything that offends: those who offend and those who do wickedness.
42 "They will throw them into a furnace of fire; there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 "Then the righteous will shine as the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Who has ears better hear.
44 "Again the Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which when a man finds, he hides it. Because of the joy it [gives]), he then goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
45 "Again the Kingdom of Heaven is like a business man looking for fine pearls.
46 "Who when he has found one extremely valuable pearl, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
47 "Again the Kingdom of Heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and took in all kinds [of fish],
48 which when it was full, they pulled to shore, sat down, and gathered the good into containers, but threw the bad away.
49 "So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come and separate the wicked from the just,
50 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
51 Jesus said to them, "Have you understood all these things?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord."
52 Then he said to them, "Therefore, every scribe who is instructed in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a homeowner, who brings out of his treasury new and old things."
53 And it came about after Jesus had finished these parables, he left.
54 And when he had come into his hometown, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were amazed and said, "Where does this man get this wisdom and these mighty miracles?
55 "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother named Mary, and his brothers [named] James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?
56 "And his sisters aren't they all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?"
57 They were offended because of him, but Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own hometown and in his own family."
58 He did not do many miracles there, because of their unbelief.
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus,
2 and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist. He is risen from the dead, and that's how these miracles are brought about by him."
3 For Herod had taken hold of John, tied him up, and put him in prison because of Heroidias, his brother Philip's wife.
4 Because John had said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."
5 When he wanted to kill him, he was scared of the multitude, because they considered him to be a prophet.
6 But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, Herodias' daughter danced in front of them and pleased Herod.
7 That's why he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.
8 Instructed beforehand by her mother, she said, "Give me right here the head of John the Baptist on a plate."
9 And king was grieved, nevertheless because of the oath and those who sat with him for the meal, he commanded it to be given her.
10 He sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11 Then his head was brought on a plate and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.
12 His disciples then came, picked up the body, buried it, and went and told Jesus.
13 When Jesus heart about it, he left there by ship to a deserted place by himself. When the people heard about it, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
14 Jesus went out and saw a large crowd; he was moved with compassion for them and healed their sick.
15 When it was evening, his disciples came to him saying, "This is a desolate place, and it is long past time. Send the crowd away, so they can go into the villages and buy food for themselves."
16 But Jesus said to them, "They don't need to leave; you give them [food] to eat."
17 They said to him, "We have here only five loaves and two fish."
18 He said, "Bring them here to me."
19 He commanded the crowd to sit down on the grass, took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up into heaven, he blessed, broke, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the multitude.
20 They all ate and were satisfied, then they picked up the pieces that were left--twelve baskets full!
21 Those who ate were around five thousand men excluding women and children.
22 Jesus immediately made his disciples get into a ship and to go before him to the other side, while he sent the crowd away.
23 After he sent the crowd away, he went up a mountain alone to pray, and when evening had come, he was there alone.
24 Meanwhile the ship was now in the midst of the sea tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against them.
25 In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went to them walking on the sea.
26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were very uneasy saying, "It is a ghost;" and they screamed in fear.
27 But Jesus immediately spoke to them, saying, "Be of good cheer; it is I. Don't be afraid."
28 Peter answered him and said, "Lord, if it is you, order me to come to you on the water."
29 Then he said, "Come." After Peter had stepped out of the ship, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the howling wind, he was scared and starting to sink, he shouted saying, "Lord, save me."
31 Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, caught him, and said to him, "O you little-faith, why did you doubt?"
32 When they got into the ship, the wind stopped.
33 Those who were in the ship came and worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
34 After they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
35 When the men of that place recognized him, they sent out to all the surrounding region and brought all who were diseased to him,
36 and begged him that they might only touch the hem of his garment, and as many as touched were made perfectly well.
1 Then Jesus came to the Scribes and Pharisees, who were from Jerusalem saying,
2 "Why do the disciples break the elders' tradition, for they don't wash their hands when they eat bread?"
3 But he answered and said to them, "Why do you break God's commandment by your tradition?
4 "For God commanded saying: «Honor your father and mother,» and «He who curses father and mother, let him die the death.»
5 "But you say, «Whosoever will say to his father or mother, Whatever might be of a help to you is a dedicated gift already,»
6 "so not honoring his father or mother. Thus you have nullified God's commandment by your tradition.
7 "Isaiah did rightly prophesy about you saying,
8 "This people draw near to me with their mouth and honor me with mouths, but their heart is far from me.
9 "They worship me manipulatively, teaching men's commandments for doctrine."
10 And he called to the multitude and said to them, "Hear and understand.
11 "It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man but that which comes out of the mouth--that defiles a man."
12 Then his disciples came and said to him, "Don't you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard that saying?"
13 But he answered and said, "Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.
14 "Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the ditch."
15 Then Peter answered and said to him, "Explain this parable to us."
16 And Jesus said, "Are you still without understanding?
17 "Don't you understand yet that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach comes out in the toilet?
18 "But those things which come out of the mouth come from the heart; they defile the man.
19 "For out of the heart comes evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, and blasphemies.
20 "These are what defile a man but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man."
21 Then Jesus went from there and left for the regions of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And look, a woman of Canaan came out of the same region and called out to him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David, my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil."
23 But he didn't reply even a word. His disciples came asked him, saying, "Get her out of here, for she keeps calling out to us."
24 But he answered and said, "I am not sent except to the lost sheep of the House of Israel."
25 The she came and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, help me."
26 But he answered, "It is not right to take the children's food and throw it to dogs."
27 She said, "True Lord, yet the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master's table."
28 The Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith; let it happen to you even as you wish." Her daughter was cured that very hour.
29 Jesus then left from there and came near the Sea of Galilee and went up into a mountain and sat down there.
30 And great crowds came to him having with them those [who were] lame, blind, unable to speak, maimed, and many others and laid them down at Jesus' feet, and he healed them.
31 So much so that the crowds were amazed when they saw those unable to speak speaking, the maimed whole, the lame walking, the blind seeing, and they glorified the God of Israel.
32 Then Jesus called his disciples and said, "I feel sorry for the crowd, because they have stayed with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I will not send them away not eating, lest they become weak on the road."
33 His disciples said to him, "Where can we get so much bread in this desolate place so to satisfy such a great crowd?"
34 Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven and a few little fish."
35 He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.
36 He took the seven loaves and the fish, gave thanks, broke [the food into pieces], and gave it to the disciples, and the disciples [gave] to the crowd.
37 They all ate, were satisfied, and picked up seven baskets full of the broken [food] that was left.
38 Those who ate were four thousand men, not counting the women and children.
39 He sent the crowd away, boarded ship, and came to the coast of Magdala.
1 The Pharisees and the Sadducees came tempting and asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 He answered and said to them, "When it is evening fine weather [is coming], because the sky is red.
3 "And in the morning stormy weather [is coming], because the sky is red and threatening. Hypocrites! You can discern the weather, but you can't the signs of the times.
4 "A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, and there will be no sign given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." He left them and went away.
5 When his disciples came to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
6 Then Jesus said to them, "Watch out and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the Sadducees."
7 They talked it over among themselves saying, "It is because we have taken no bread."
8 But Jesus knew this, so he said to them, "O what little faith, why do you talk it over among yourselves how that you have brought no bread?
9 "Don't you still understand nor remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets full you picked up;
10 "not even the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets full you picked up?
11 "Why is it that you don't understand that I didn't speak to you about being beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the Sadducees?"
12 Then they understood that he wasn't asking them to beware of the yeast of bread but about the teaching of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples saying, "Who do men say that I the Son of Man am?"
14 They said, "Some [say] John the Baptist, some Elijah, others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."
15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
16 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
17 Jesus answered and said to him, "You are blessed, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father who is in heaven.
18 "I also say to you that you are Peter and I will build my congregation on this rock, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.
19 "And I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven and whatever you will forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven."
20 Then he commanded his disciples that they tell no one that he was Jesus the Messiah.
21 From the time on Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed,and then be raised up the third day.
22 Then Peter took him and started to rebuke him saying, "Far from it, Lord, this will not happen to you."
23 But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan. You are an offense to me, for you are not thinking about God's things but man's."
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone will come with me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
25 "For whoever will save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.
26 "For what does a man profit if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 "For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and at that time he will pay back everyone according to his actions.
28 "Truly I say to you: There are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."
1 Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John, his brother, and brought them up on a high mountain alone.
2 He transformed his appearance in front of them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes was as white as its light.
3 Look! Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.
4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord it is good for us to be here. If you want, let us make three tents here one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
5 While he was still speaking a bright cloud encircled them, and look, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Listen closely to him."
6 When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces terrified.
7 Jesus came and touched them and said, "Get up; do not be afraid."
8 When they looked up, they saw no man except Jesus only.
9 As they came down from the mountain Jesus commanded them saying, "Tell no one the vision until the Son of Man is risen from the dead."
10 His disciples asked him saying, "Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
11 Jesus answered and said to them, "Elijah truly will come first and restore all things.
12 "But I tell you that Elijah came already, and they didn't recognize him, but they did to him whatsoever they wanted to. In a similar way the Son of Man will also suffer from them."
13 Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them about John the Baptist.
14 When they came to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down and saying,
15 "Lord have mercy on my son, for he is a epileptic and suffers greatly, for sometimes he falls into the fire and often into the water.
16 "I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him."
17 Then Jesus answered and said, "O faithless, corrupt generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I put up with you? Bring him here to me."
18 Jesus rebuked the devil, and he went out of him. The child was cured from that very moment.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why couldn't we cast him out?"
20 Jesus said to them, "Because of your weak faith, for truly I say to you: If you had faith even as a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, «Go from here to there,» and it would change places. Nothing would be impossible for you.
21 "Nevertheless this kind doesn't go out except by prayer and fasting."
22 While they stayed in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man will be betrayed into the hands of men.
23 "They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised again." They were very sad.
24 When they came to Capernaum, those who collected Temple taxes came to Peter and said, "Doesn't your master pay the Temple tax?"
25 He said, "Yes." When he came into the house, Jesus stopped him saying, "What do you think Simon from whom do the earthly kings take duties and taxes, their own children or those not their own?"
26 Peter said to him, "From those not their own." Jesus said to him, "Then the children are exempt.
27 "But lest we offend them, you go to the sea and thrown in a hook. Take up the first fish that comes up. After you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money. Take that and give it to them for me and you."
1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, "Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?"
2 Jesus called a little child to him and set him in their midst,
3 and said, "Truly I say to you: Unless you are converted and become like little children, you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
4 "Whosoever therefore will humble himself like this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
5 "And whosoever will receive one such little one in my name receives me.
6 "But whosoever will offend one of these ones who believe in me, it would be better that a huge millstone were hung around his neck, and he would drown in the depths of the sea.
7 "Woe to the world because of its snares, for it is inevitable that temptations come, but woe to that man by whom the temptation comes from.
8 "Therefore if your hand or your foot is what snares you cut them off and thrown [them] away from you; it is better for you to enter into life crippled or disfigured than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into everlasting fire.
9 "And if your eye is what snares you, pluck it out and throw [it] from you; it is better for you to enter into life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell fire.
10 "Be careful that you don't despise one of these little ones, for I say to you: that in heaven their angels do always look at the face of my Father who is in heaven.
11 "For the Son of Man came to save that which was lost.
12 "What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders off, doesn't he leave the ninety nine and go into the mountains and searches for the one who wandered off?
13 "And if it happens that he finds it, truly I say to you that he rejoices more for that [sheep] than for the ninety nine who didn't wander off.
14 "Eve so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should die.
15 "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him privately. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
16 "But if he will not listen, then take with you one or two more, so that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word can be verified.
17 "But if he will refuse to listen to them, tell it to the congregation. If he refuses to listen to the congregation, let him be considered as a heathen and publican to you.
18 "Truly I say to you: Whatever you will decide to forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you will permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.
19 "Again I say to you: that if two of you will agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven.
20 "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there in their midst."
21 Then Peter came to him and said, "Lord, how often will my brother sin against me and I forgive him--until seven times?"
22 Jesus said to him, "I say to you not until seven times but until seventy times seven.
23 "Therefore the Kingdom of Heaven is compared to a certain king who wanted to take an account from his servants.
24 "When he had started taking [it], one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
25 "But since he had no way to repay, his lord commanded him to be sold even his wife, children, and everything that he had for repayment.
26 "Then the servant fell down and kneeled before him saying, «Lord have patience with me, and I will repay all to you.»
27 "Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion and loosened him and forgave him that debt.
28 "Now that same servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and he laid his hand on him and took [him] by the throat saying, «Pay me what you owe.»
29 "His fellow servant fell down at his feet and pleaded with him saying, «Have patience with me, and I will repay you all.»
30 "But he would not, but went and threw him into prison until he would repay the debt.
31 "So when his fellow servants saw what happened, they were very sad and came and told their lord everything that had happened.
32 "Then his lord after calling him in said, «O you wicked servant, I forgave you all that debt, because you asked me to.
33 "Shouldn't you also have compassion on your fellow servant like I had pity on you?»
34 "His lord was very angry and turned him over to the tormenters, until he would repay everything that was due him.
35 "So in the same way will my heavenly Father also do to you, if you don't forgive from your hearts every one of his brother's sins."
1 So it came about when Jesus had finished these words, he left from Galilee and came to the area of Judea on the other side of the Jordan.
2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
3 The Pharisees also came tempting him and saying to him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?"
4 He answered and said to them, "Haven't you read that he who made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 and said, «For this reason a man will leave father and mother and will have an indissoluble union with his wife, and they will be one flesh.»
6 "Therefore they are not any longer two but one flesh. What God joined together, man must not separate."
7 They said to him, "Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorce and divorce her?"
8 He said to them, "Moses because of your hard hearts allowed you to divorce your wives, but it was not such from the beginning.
9 "I say to you, «Whosoever will divorce his wife--except for fornication--and will marry another commits adultery. Whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.»
10 His disciples said to him, "If this is the case of man with his wife; it is better not to marry."
11 But he said to them, "All cannot receive this saying, except to those to whom it is given.
12 "For some are eunuchs who were born this way from theirs mother's womb, some are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and some are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven's sake. He who is able to receive it, let him receive it."
13 Then little children were brought to him so that he could put [his] hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.
14 But Jesus said, "Allow the little children; do not stop them from coming to me, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."
15 He laid hands on them, and then left there.
16 Now look, one came and said to him, "Good Master, what good thing can I do that I may have eternal life?"
17 And he said to him, "Why do you call me good? None is good except one--God, but if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
18 He said to him, "Which ones?" Jesus said, "You must not murder; you must not commit adultery; you must not steal, you must not bear false witness; [19] "Honor you father and mother, and you must love your neighbor as yourself."

20 The young man said, "All these things I have kept from my youth up; what do I still lack?"
21 Jesus said to him, "If you will be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, then you will have treasure in heaven, and come and follow me."
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away very sad, because he had great assets.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Verily I say to you, «That a rich man will with difficulty enter in the Kingdom of Heaven.»
24 "Again I say to you, «It is easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter in the Kingdom of Heaven.'"
25 When his disciples heard [this], they were totally amazed saying, "Who then can be saved?"
26 But Jesus looked right at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
27 Then Peter said to him, "Look, we have forsaken everything and followed you. What then will we have?"
28 Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you who have followed me, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of his glory in The Regeneration, you also will sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 "And everyone who has left houses, brothers, sisters, father, mother, wife, children, and fields for my name's sake will receive a hundred times more and will inherit everlasting life.
30 "But many [who are] first will be last and the last, first."
1 "For the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man [who is] a landowner and went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.
2 "When he had made an agreement with the workers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
3 "He went out about the third hour [about 0900 AM] and saw others standing unemployed in the marketplace,
4 "and he said to them: «You go also into the vineyard and whatever is right, I will give you,» and they went out.
5 "Again he went out about the sixth [noon] and the ninth [3 PM] hour and did the same.
6 "Around the eleventh hour [5 PM] he went out and found others standing unemployed and said to them, «Why did you stand here all day unemployed?»
7 "They said to him, «Because no man has hired us.» He said to them, «You go also into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.»
8 "So when evening came the lord of the vineyard said to his steward, Call the workers and give them their pay starting from the last to the first.»
9 "When those who were [hired] about the eleventh hour came, each one received a denarius.
10 "Now when the first came, they assumed they would get more, but each one likewise received a denarius.
11 "When they had received it, they complained about the landowner,
12 "saying: «These last have only worked one hour, and you have made them equal to us who carried the burden and heat of the day.»
13 "But he answered one of them and said, «Friend, I didn't do you any wrong. Didn't you agree with me for a denarius?»
14 «Take yours, and go. I will give to the last, even as you.
15 «Isn't it lawful for me to do what I want with my own? Is your eye malicious, because I am good?»
16 "So the last will be first and the first last, for many are called but few chosen."
17 Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them,
18 "Look, we are going to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to die.
19 "They will deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, scourge, and to crucify, but the third day, he will rise again."
20 Then the mother of Zebedee's children came with her sons worshiping and desiring certain things from him.
21 And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit one on your right hand and the other on the left in your kingdom."
22 But Jesus answered and said, "You don't know what you are asking. Are you able to drink from the cup that I will drink from and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" They said to him, "We are able."
23 And he said to them, "You will truly drink from my cup and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with, but to sit on my right hand or on my left is not mine to give, but for those to whom it is prepared by my Father."
24 When the ten heard it, they were extremely angry against the two brothers.
25 But Jesus called to them and said, "You know that the princes of the Gentiles wield power over them, and those who are great, wield power over them.
26 "But it is not to be so among you. Whosoever wants to be great among you, then let him be your servant.
27 "And whosoever wants to be chief among you, then let him be your slave.
28 "Even as the Son of Man didn't come to be served but instead to serve and to give his life a ransom for many."
29 As they left Jericho, a great crowd followed him.
30 And look, two blind men were sitting by the roadside. When they heard that Jesus passed by, they shouted saying, "Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David."
31 The crowd told them off, because they should shut up, but they shouted even more saying, "Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David."
32 Jesus stopped and called for them and said, "What do you want for me to do for you?"
33 They said to him, "Lord, that our eyes may be opened."
34 So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. Immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
1 When they got close to Jerusalem and arrived at Bethphage next to the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, Mat 21:2 telling them, "Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to me.

3 "If anyone says anything to you, you tell them, «The Lord has need of them,' and immediately he will send them."
4 All this was done so that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet saying,
5 "You tell the daughter of Zion, «Look! Your king comes to you, meek, and riding on a donkey and on a colt the foal of a donkey.'"
6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.
7 They brought the donkey and colt and put their cloaks on them, then they set [him] on them.
8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
9 The crowd that went in front and those who followed shouted saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest."
10 When he had come into Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up saying, "Who is this?"
11 The crowd said, "This is Jesus, the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee."
12 Jesus went into the Temple of God and threw out all those who sold and bought in the temple. He also overturned the table of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
13 He said to them, "It is written, «My house will be called the House of Prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.»
14 The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.
15 When the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did and the children shouting in the temple saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were outraged.
16 They said to him, "Don't you hear what they say?" Jesus said to them, "Yes, have you never read, «Out of the mouth of little children and nursing children you have perfected praise.»
17 Then he left them and went out of the city to Bethany and stayed there.
18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he was hungry.
19 When he saw a fig tree on the way, he came to it and found nothing except leaves and said to it, "Let no fruit grow on you from now to eternity." Instantly the fig tree withered.
20 When the disciples saw [it], they marveled saying, "How quickly the fig tree withered!"
21 Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you: If you have faith and don't doubt, you will not only do this to the fig tree, but if you also will say to this mountain: Be removed; be thrown into the sea. It will be done.
22 "All things whatever you will ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
23 When he had come to the temple, the chief priests and elders of the people came to him as he was teaching and said, "By what authority do you do these things? And who gave you this authority?"
24 Jesus answered and said to them, "I will also ask you one thing, which if you tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
25 "John's baptism, where did it come from--heaven or men?" They talked it over, "If we will say, «From heaven,» he will say to us, "Why didn't you believe him then?
26 "But if we will say, «From men.» We fear the people, for all hold John as a prophet."
27 Then they answered Jesus and said, "We don't know."So he said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
28 "Now what do you think? A certain man had two sons. He came to the first and said, «Son, go work in my vineyard today.»
29 "He answered and said, «I will not,» but afterward he repented and went.
30 "Then he came to the second and said the same. He answered and said, «I go sir,» but he didn't go.
31 "Which of the two then did the father's will?" They said to him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, «That the tax collectors and harlots will go into the Kingdom of God before you.»
32 "For John came to you in the path of righteousness, but you didn't believe him. But the tax collectors and harlots believed him. And when you saw it, you didn't repent afterward, so that you might believe him.
33 "Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner, who planted a vineyard and hedged it all around. He also dug a winepress on it and built a tower. He then leased it to tenants and went into a far off country.
34 "When the harvest time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, so that to receive its harvest.
35 "The tenants took his servant and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.
36 "Again he sent other servants, even more than the first, and they did the same thing to them.
37 "But finally he sent his son to them, saying, «They will reverence my son.»
38 "But when the tenants saw the son, they said among themselves, «This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.»
39 "They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and murdered him.
40 "When the lord of the vineyard therefore came, what will he do to those tenants?"
41 They said to him, "He will miserably destroy those wicked men and will lease the vineyard to other tenants who will deliver the harvests on time to him."
42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures, «The stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner. This is marvelous in our eyes.»
43 "Therefore I say to you, «The Kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bringing forth the harvest of it.
44 "And whosoever will fall on this stone will be broken, but on whomever it will fall, it will grind him to powder.»
45 When the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke about them.
46 But when they tried to lay hands on him, they feared the crowd, because they held him as a prophet.
1 Jesus then started to speak and said to them again in parables saying,
2 "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king who made a marriage for his son.
3 "He sent out his servants to notify the invited to the wedding, but they would not come.
4 "Again he sent out other servants saying, «Tell those who are invited, "Look, I have prepared my dinner. My oxen and fattened calves are butchered and everything is ready. Come to the marriage.»
5 "But they made fun of it and left, one to his farm, another to his store.
6 "The rest of them took his servants, violently abused them, and killed them.
7 "But when the king heard about it, he was furious. He sent out his armies and destroyed those murders and burned up their city.
8 "Then he says to his servants, «The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
9 "Therefore you go into the streets and as many as you find, invite to the marriage.
10 "So those servants went out into the streets and gathered together every one they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding was filled with guests.
11 "When the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who didn't have wedding clothes on.
12 "He said to him, «Friend, how did you get in here without having wedding clothes?» [The man] was speechless.
13 "Then the king said to his servants, «Tie him up hand and foot and take him away, throw him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.»
14 "For many are invited but few are chosen."
15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they could trip him up in his words.
16 They sent out their disciples along with the Herodians to him saying, "Master, we know that you are true and teach God's way in truth, neither do you give special care to any, for you don't regard the status of people.
17 "Tell us therefore, «What do you think? Is it lawful to give tribute money to Caesar or not?»
18 But Jesus knew their wickedness and said, "Why do you tempt me, you hypocrites?
19 "Show me the tribute money." They brought a denarius to him.
20 And he said to them, "Who image and inscription is this?"
21 They said to him, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Therefore give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's."
22 When they heard this, they were astonished, left him, and went away.
23 That same day Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, and asked him, [24] saying, "Master, Moses said, «If a man died without children, his brother is to marry his wife and raise up descendants for his brother.»

25 "Now there with us seven brothers. The first, after he had married, died having no offspring, so left his wife to his brother.
26 "The same thing happened to the second, too, and to the third through the seventh.
27 "Last of all the woman also died.
28 "Now then in the resurrection whose wife will she be of the seven, for they all had her?"
29 Jesus answered and said to them, "You're deceived, not knowing the Scriptures or the power of God.
30 "For in the resurrection, they don't marry, or given in marriage, but they are like God's angels in heaven.
31 "But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven't you ever read what was spoken to you by saying, [32] "I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. God is not the God of the dead but of the living."

32 When the crowd heard this they were stunned at his teaching.
34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they got together.
35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him saying, [36] "Master, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"

37 Jesus said to him, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
38 "This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 "The second is similar to it, «You must love your neighbor as yourself.»
40 "On these the two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
41 While the Pharisees were gather together, Jesus asked them,
42 saying, "What do you think about Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "David's."
43 He said to them, "How then can David--in spirit--call him «Lord' saying,
44 "The LORD said to my Lord, «You sit on my right hand until I make your enemies you footstool.»
45 "Now if David called him «Lord,» how then can he be his son?"
46 No man was able to answer him a word, neither did any dare ask him any more [questions] from that day.
1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowd and to his disciples,
2 saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat.
3 "Therefore everything whatever they ask you to observe, observe and do but don't do like they do, for they talk [it] but don't do [it].
4 "For they tie heavy and grievous burdens and put them on people's shoulders, but they [themselves] will not remove them with one of their fingers.
5 "But they do all their deeds only to be noticed by people. They make their phylacteries wide and make the borders of their garments very large.
6 "They love the pre-eminent places at dinners and the seats of the greatest honor in the synagogues.
7 "They love greeting in the markets and to be addressed by people, "Rabbi, Rabbi."
8 "But you are not to be addressed as Rabbi, because one is your Master, Christ, and you are all brothers.
9 "Do not address anyone as your "Father" on this earth, because one is your Father, who is in heaven.
10 "Also do not be addressed as "Master", because one is your Master, Christ.
11 "Instead he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
12 "And whoever will exalt himself will be humbled, but he who will be humble will be exalted.
13 "But woe to you Scribes and Pharisees. You hypocrites! You close the Kingdom of Heaven from people, for you do not go in yourselves nor allow those who are trying to enter in.
14 "Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees. You hypocrites! You eat up widows' houses and for pretense make long prayers. Therefore, you will receive the greater damnation.
15 "Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees. You hypocrites! You travel sea and land to make one convert, and when this is accomplished, you make him twice the child of hell than yourselves.
16 "Woe to you, you blind guides. You say, «Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing, but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.»
17 "You fools and blind men, for what is greater the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
18 "And [you say], «Whoever will swear by the altar, it is nothing, but whoever swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is obligated.
19 "You fools and blind men, for which is greater, the gift or the altar which sanctifies the gift?
20 "Therefore whoever will swear by the altar, swears by it and everything on it.
21 "Whoever will swear by the temple, swears by it and by him who lives there.
22 "He who will swear by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
23 "Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees. You hypocrites! For you tithe mint, anise, and cumin, yet have omitted the weightier matters of The Law--justice, mercy, and faith. These ought to be done by you and not to leave the other undone.
24 "You blind guides, who strain at a gnat, yet swallow a camel.
25 "Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees. You hypocrites! For you clean the cup's and dish's outside, yet inside they are full of extortion and lack of self-control.
26 "You blind Pharisee. Clean what is inside the cup and dish first, so that the outside may be also clean.
27 "Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees. You hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which truly appear beautiful outwardly but inside full of dead [men's] bones and all uncleanness.
28 "Even so you also appear righteous outwardly to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
29 "Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees? You hypocrites! For you build the prophets tombs and decorate the tombs of the righteous.
30 "You say, «If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn't have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.»
31 "Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are the children of those who killed the prophets.
32 "Fill up then the measuring cup of your fathers.
33 "You serpents, you generation of vipers; how can you escape the damnation of hell?
34 "Therefore, look, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify. Some of them you will whip in your synagogues and persecute them from city to city.
35 "So that on you will fall all the righteous blood shed on the earth from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Barachias, whom you killed between the temple and the altar.
36 "Truly I say to you: All these things will come on this generation.
37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you. How often I wanted to gather your children together even like a hen gathers her chicks under [her] wings, but you would not.
38 "Look, your house is left to you desolate.
39 "For I say to you: You will not see me anymore, until you say, «Blessed [is] he who comes in the name of the Lord.»
1 Jesus went out and departed from the Temple, and his disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the Temple.
2 Jesus said to them, "You see all these do you not? Truly I say to you: There will not be left here one stone on another that will not be thrown down."
3 And as he sat down on the Mount of Olives, the disciples privately came to him asking, "Tell us when these things will be, and what will be the sign of your coming and the end of the world."
4 Jesus answering said to them, "Beware that no one deceive you.
5 "For many will come in my name saying, «I am Christ,» and will deceive many.
6 "You will hear about wars and rumors of wars. See to it that you are not bothered [by it], for all [these things] must come about, but the end is not yet.
7 "For nation will rise up against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various places.
8 "All these things are the beginning of sorrows.
9 "They will hand you over to be persecuted and will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of my name.
10 "Then many will induced to fall, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
11 "Many false prophets will rise and will deceive many.
12 "Because iniquity will increase, the love of many will grow cold.
13 "But he who will endure to the end, the same will be saved.
14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be publicly announced to all the world for a witness to all nations, and then the end will come.
15 "Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel standing in the Holy Place--whoever reads [this], let him understand,
16 then let those who are in Judea flee into the mountains.
17 "Let him who is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house.
18 "Neither let him who is in the field come back to take his cloak.
19 "Woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse in those days.
20 "But pray that your escape will not be in the winter nor on the Sabbath.
21 "For then the great tribulation will come about, such as never has happened since the beginning of the world to now, no, nor ever will be.
22 "Unless those days get shortened there would be no flesh saved, but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.
23 "Then if any man will say to you, «Look! Here is Christ!» or «There [he is],» don't believe it,
24 for many false Christs will arise and false prophets, and they will show awesome signs and miracles, so much so that if possible, they will deceive the very elect.
25 "Take notice, I have told you beforehand.
26 "Therefore if they will say to you, «Look, he is in the desert, do not go out,» or «Look, he is in a private place,» don't believe it.
27 "For as the bright shining comes from the east and shines even to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
28 "For wherever the dead body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give her light, the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
30 "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and at that time all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 " He will send out his angels with a loud sounding of a trumpet, and they will gather together his elect from the four quarters of the earth, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 "Now learn the parable of the fig tree. When his branch is yet tender and puts out leaves, you know that summer is near.
33 "So in the same way, when you see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 "Truly I say to you, «This generation will not pass away until all these things are fulfilled.»
35 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
36 "But about that day and hour, no one knows, no, hot the angels of heaven, but only my Father.
37 "But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
38 "For as in the days that were before the flood, they were eating, drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the ark.
39 "They didn't know until the flood came and took them all away. So also the coming of the Son of Man will be.
40 "Then two will be in the field. One will be taken and the other left behind.
41 "Two [women] will be grinding at the mill. One will be taken and the other left behind.
42 "Therefore be vigilant, for you do not know what hour your Lord will come.
43 "But know this, that if the house owner would have known what time of day the thief would come, he would have watched and would not have allowed his house to be broken up.
44 "Therefore, you also be ready. For in such an hour as you don't think, the Son of Man will come.
45 "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord had made ruler over his household to give them food at the proper time.
46 "Blessed is that servant whom his lord will find doing so when he comes.
47 "Truly I say to you, «That he will make him ruler over all his goods.»
48 "But and if that evil servant will say in his heart, «My lord delays his coming,»
49 and will start to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with the drunkards,
50 then the lord of that servant will come on a day when is not looking for him and on an hour that he isn't aware of.
51 "He will cut him in pieces and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
1 "Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be compared to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
2 "Five of them were wise and five foolish.
3 "Those who were foolish took their lamps but took no oil with them.
4 "But the wise took oil in their containers along with their lamps.
5 "While the bridegroom lingered, they all fell asleep and slept.
6 "At midnight there was a shout given, «Look! The bridegroom comes; go out to meet him.»
7 "Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.
8 "But the foolish said to the wise, «Give us some of your oil, for our lamps have gone out.»
9 "But the wise answered, saying, «No, lest there won't be enough for us and you. Instead you go to those who sell and buy for yourselves.»
10 "While they went to buy, the bridegroom came. Those who were ready went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.
11 "Later the other virgins also came saying, «Lord, Lord open to us.»
12 "But he answered and said, «Truly I say to you; I do not know you.»
13 "So then, be watching, for you don't know neither the day or the hour in which the Son of Man comes.
14 "For [the Kingdom of Heaven is] like a man traveling into a far away country, who summoned his servants and gave them his possessions.
15 "And he gave five talents to one, two to another, one to another. Everyone [was given] according to his ability, then he immediately took his journey.
16 "Then he who had received five talents went and traded with it and made five talents more.
17 "In the same way he who [had received] two also made two more.
18 "But he who had received one went and dug in the dirt and hid his lord's money.
19 "After a long time the lord of those servants came and wanted an account from them.
20 "So he who had received five talents came and brought five more talents saying, «Lord, You give me five talents. Look! I have gained five more talents.»
21 "His lord said to him, «Well done good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will make you ruler over much. Enter into the joy of your lord.»
22 "He who had received two talents came and said, «Lord, you gave me two talents. Look! I have gained two more talents.»
23 "His lord said to him, «Well done good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will make you ruler over much. Enter into the joy of you lord.»
24 "Then he who had received the one talent came and said, «Lord, I know you. You are a hard man reaping where you haven't sown and gathering where you haven't dispersed.
25 «And I was afraid, went, and hid your talent in the dirt. Look, have what's yours.»
26 "His lord answered and said to him, «You wicked, slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I didn't sow and gather where I haven't dispersed.»
27 "Therefore you should have put my money with the bankers, and when I came, I could have received my own with interest.
28 "Therefore take the talent from him and give it to him who has ten talents.
29 "For to everyone who has something, more will be given, and he will have much, but from him who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away.
30 "Throw the undeserving servant into outer darkness. Weeping and gnashing of teeth will be there.
31 "When the Son of Man will come in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory.
32 "All nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them from one another like a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
33 "He will set the sheep on his right hand and the goats on the left.
34 "Then the King will say to them on his right hand, «Come blessed of my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 «For I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in.
36 "'[I was] naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.'
37 "Then the righteous will answer him, saying, «Lord, when did we see you hungry and fed you, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?
38 «When did we see you a stranger and took you in, or naked and clothed you?
39 «Or when did we see you sick or in prison and came to you?»
40 "Then the King will answer and say to them, «Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it to me.»
41 "Then he will say to those on his left hand, «Get away from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 «For I was hungry, and you gave me no food. I was thirsty, and you gave me nothing to drink.
43 «I was a stranger, and you didn't take me in; naked, and you didn't clothe me; sick and in prison, and you didn't visit me.»
44 "Then they will also answer him, saying, «Lord, when did we see you hungry, thirsty, a stranger, naked, sick, or in prison, and didn't help you?»
45 "Then he will answer them, saying, «Truly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it for one of the least of these, you didn't do it for me.»
46 "These will go away into everlasting punishment but the righteous into eternal life."
1 And it came about after Jesus had finished this whole discourse, he said to his disciples,
2 "You know that after two days is The Passover and the Son of Man is betrayed to be crucified."
3 Then the Chief Priests, Scribes, and Elders of the People got together in the palace of the High Priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and
4 they consulted so that they might take Jesus in a sneaky way and kill [him].
5 But they said, "Not on the feast day, lest there will be a riot among the people."
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,
7 a woman came to him there having an alabaster box of very expensive ointment and poured it on his head as he sat [eating].
8 But when his disciples saw it, they were furious, saying, "What's the purpose for this waste?
9 "For this ointment could have been sold for a lot and given to the poor."
10 When Jesus understood this, he said to them, "Why trouble the woman, for she has done a good work on me.
11 "For you always have the poor with you, but you don't always have me.
12 "For in that she has poured this ointment on my body, she did [it] for my burial.
13 "Truly, I say to you, "Wherever this gospel will be preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial of her."
14 Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests,
15 and said, "What will you give me, if I will deliver him to you?" They made an agreement with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 From that time he looked for an opportunity to betray him.
17 Now the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus asking him, "Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?"
18 He said to them, "Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, «The Master says, "My time is near, I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples."'
19 The disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover.
20 Now when evening came, he sat down with the twelve, [21] and as they ate, he said, "Truly, I say to you that one of you will betray me".

22 They were extremely sad, and every one of them started to say to him, "Lord, is it me?"
23 He answered and said, "He who dips his hand with me into the dish, the same will betray me.
24 "The Son of Man departs as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man, if he had not been born."
25 Then Judas, who betrayed him, responded and said, "Master, is it me?" He said to him, "You have said so."
26 As they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat, this is my body."
27 Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink all of it.
28 "For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 "But I say to you, «I will not drink of this fruit of the vine anymore until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.»
30 After they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
31 Then Jesus said to them, "All of you will desert me this night, for it is written, «I will smite the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.»
32 "After I am risen again, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."
33 Peter replied and said, "Though everyone will desert you, I will never desert."
34 Jesus said to him, "Truly, I say to you that this night before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times."
35 Peter said to him, "Though I die with you, I will not deny you!" So all the disciples said likewise.
36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane and said to the disciples, "Sit here, while I go and pray over there."
37 He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be very sad and distressed.
38 Then he said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sad even to death. Stay here and keep watch with me."
39 He went a little farther and fell on his face and prayed saying, "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless not as I want but as you [want].
40 Then he came to his disciples, found them asleep, and said to Peter, "What! Couldn't you stay awake with me for one hour?"
41 "Stay awake and pray, so that you don't enter into temptation. The spirit is truly willing, but the flesh is weak."
42 Again he went the second time and prayed saying, "O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, unless I drink it, your will be done."
43 Then he came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy with sleep.
44 Then he left them and went again prayed for the third time saying the same words.
45 Then he came to his disciples and said to them, "Go ahead and sleep; take your rest. Look! The hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46 "Get up; let us get going. Look! He who betrays me is here."
47 While he was still speaking, look, Judas, one of the twelve, and a large group with swords and clubs came from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48 Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign saying, "Whomever I will kiss is he. Securely hold him."
49 And so he came to Jesus and said, "Greetings, Master" and kissed him.
50 Jesus said to him, "Friend, why have you come?" Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took him.
51 And look, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, drew his sword, and struck the servant of the High Priest cutting off his ear.
52 Then Jesus said to him, "Put away your sword into its place, for all who will take the sword will perish with the sword.
53 "Don't you think that I cannot pray to my Father, and he will quickly give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 "But how will the Scriptures be fulfilled then, that it must happen?"
55 At that same time Jesus said to the crowd, "Have you come with swords and clubs to take me? Every day I sat with you teaching in the Temple, and you didn't laid hold of me.
56 "But all this was done, so that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all his disciples forsook him and ran away.
57 Those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas, the High Priest, where the Scribes and Pharisees had gathered.
58 Peter followed him at a distance to the High Priest's Palace, went in, and sat with the servants to see the end.
59 Now the Chief Priests, Elders, and the whole council sought false witnesses against Jesus in order to kill him.
60 But they didn't find any, yes, even though many false witnesses came forward, they didn't find any. At last two false witnesses came,
61 and said, "This [guy] said, «I am able to destroy the Temple of God and to rebuild it in three days."
62 Then the High Priest stood up and said to him, "Aren't you going to answer what these witness against you?"
63 But Jesus remained quiet. The High Priest answered and said to him, "I put you under oath by the Living God that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God."
64 Jesus said to him, "You have said it. Nevertheless, I say to you, «Later on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven."
65 Then the High Priest tore his clothes saying, "He has blasphemed; what need to we have of any further witnesses? See now. You have heard his blasphemy.
66 "What do you think?" They answered and said, "He is guilty of death!"
67 Then they spit in his face, slugged him, and others slapped him with the palms of their hands.
68 [They were] saying to him, "Prophesy to us, you Christ. Who was it who hit you?"
69 Meanwhile Peter sat outside in the palace and a servant girl came to him saying, "You were also with Jesus of Galilee."
70 But he denied it in front of them all, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about."
71 After he had gone out to the main door, another servant girl saw him and said to them who were there, "This [guy] was with Jesus of Nazareth, too."
72 And again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know this man."
73 After a while they who stood around came to him and said to Peter, "Surely you are also one of them, for your speech gives you away."
74 Then he began to curse and takes oaths, "I do not know this man." Immediately the rooster crowed.
75 Then Peter remembered the word of Jesus which said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.
1 When morning arrived, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to kill him.
2 When they had tied him up, they led him away and handed him over to Pontius Pilate, the governor.
3 Then Judas, who had betrayed him, after seeing he was condemned, regretted it, and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4 saying, "I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood." They replied, "What is it to us? That's your problem."
5 He threw the pieces of silver down in the Temple, left, and went and hung himself.
6 The chief priest took the silver pieces and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasure, because it is the price of blood."
7 So they took counsel and bought the potter's field with them to bury strangers.
8 Therefore that field was called "The Field of Blood" to this day.
9 That which was spoken of by Jeremiah the prophet was then fulfilled, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of his value, whom the Children of Israel did value.
10 «They gave them for the Potter's field as the Lord appointed me."
11 Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, saying, "Are you the King of the Jews?" And Jesus said to him, "You speck [the truth]."
12 When he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he didn't answer.
13 Then Pilate said to him, "Don't you hear how many things they witness against you?"
14 And he never answered him a word; insomuch that the governor was greatly amazed.
15 Now at the feast the governor was in the habit of releasing to the people a prisoner whom they wanted.
16 They had an infamous prisoner named Barabbas.
17 Therefore when they were gathered together Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want for me to release to you, Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ?"
18 For he knew full well that because of envy they had handed him over.
19 When he had sat down on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Don't have nothing to do with that just man, for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him."
20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask for Barabbas and kill Jesus.
21 The governor answered and said to them, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" They said, "Barabbas."
22 Pilate said to them, "What will I then do with Jesus who is called Christ?" All said to him, "Let him be crucified."
23 The governor said, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they shouted out even more, saying, "Let him be crucified."
24 When Pilate saw that he wasn't getting anywhere, but that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this just person. Now it is your problem."
25 All the people then answered and said, "His blood be on us and on our children."
26 Then he released Barabbas to them, and after having Jesus whipped, he handed him over to be crucified.
27 Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the common hall and gathered the whole squad of soldiers to him.
28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him.
29 After braiding a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and a reed in his right hand, then they bowed the knee before him and made fun of him saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"
30 They spit on him; they took a reed and hit him on the head.
31 After they had made fun of him, they took the robe off him and put on his own clothes and led him away to crucify him.
32 As they came out they found a man of Cyrene, named Simon; they compelled him to carry his cross.
33 When they came into a place called Golgotha, that is to say, "A Place of a Skull."
34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall, and when he had tasted it, he would not drink.
35 They crucified him and divided up his clothes, throwing lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, "They divided up my clothes among them, and they threw lots on my clothing."
36 Sitting down, they watched him there.
37 They set up [a sign] over his head of his accusation, written, "This is Jesus, the King of the Jews."
38 At that time two thieves were crucified with him, one on the right hand and another on the left.
39 Those who passed by reviled him, shaking their heads.
40 And they were saying, "You who destroys the Temple and rebuilds it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross."
41 Likewise the chief priests also mocking him along with the scribes and elders said,
42 "He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
43 "He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him, for he said, «I am the Son of God.'"
44 The thieves who were crucified with him also taunted him.
45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land up to the ninth hour.
46 About the ninth hour Jesus shouted with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lame sabachthani."
47 Some of those who stood there, when they heard that said, "This man calls for Elijah."
48 Immediately one of them ran, took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, put it on a stick, and gave him a drink.
49 The rest said, "Let it be, let us see if Elijah will come to save him."
50 Jesus after he had shouted again with a loud voice, yielded up his spirit.
51 Then look! The veil of the Temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom, the earth shook, and the rocks broke.
52 The graves were opened and many bodies of the saints, which slept, arose.
53 They came out of the graves after his resurrection, went into the Holy City, and appeared to many.
54 Now when the centurion and those with him guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and the things that happened, greatly feared, saying, "Truly, this was the Son of God."
55 Many women who had followed Jesus from Galilee ministering to him were there watching from afar.
56 Among them were Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee's children.
57 When evening came, a rich man from Arimathaea, named Joseph, came there; he was also a disciple of Jesus.
58 He went to Pilate and begged for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given up.
59 After Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean, linen cloth,
60 and laid it in his own tomb, which he had cut out in the rock, rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and left.
61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there in front of the tomb.
62 Now the next day following the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together to Pilate.
63 They said, "Sir, we remember that the deceiver said, while he was alive, "After three days, I will rise again."
64 "Therefore give an order that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night and take him away, and then say to the people, "He is risen from the dead," so the last fraud will be worse than the first."
65 Pilate said to them, "You have a guard; go away; make it as secure as you can."
66 So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard.
1 After the Sabbath was over as it began to get light into the first of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
2 But look! There was a great earthquake, for the angel of the Lord came down from heaven, came over, rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.
3 His countenance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow.
4 Because of fear of him, the guards trembled violently and became as if they were dead.
5 The angel began to speak and said to the women, "Don't be afraid, for I know that you look for Jesus, who was crucified.
6 "He is not here, for he is risen as he said. Come; see the place where the Lord lay.
7 "Go quickly, tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead, and look, he goes ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. Look, I have told you."
8 They left quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and they ran to bring his disciples the news.
9 As they went to tell his disciples, look, Jesus met them, saying, "Rejoice." They came, held on to his feet, and worshiped him.
10 Then Jesus said to them, "Don't be afraid. Go, tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and they will see me there."
11 Now as they were on their way--look!-- some of the guard came into the city and reported all the things that happened to the chief priests.
12 When they were gathered together with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave a lot of money to the soldiers, Mat 28:13 saying, "Say this: «His disciples came by night and stole him while we slept.'

14 "If this is heard by the governor, we will pacify him and make it safe for you."
15 So they took the money and did as they were taught. This saying is commonly reported among the Jews to this day.
16 Then the eleven disciples went into Galilee to a mountain where Jesus had appointed to them.
17 When they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted.
18 Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.
19 "Therefore go, teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
20 "Teaching them to carefully attend to everything whatever I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the world." Amen.
