² Moses 04872 my servant 05650 is dead 04191; now therefore arise 06965, go over 05674 this Jordan 03383, thou, and all this people 05971, to the land 0776 which I do give 05414 to them, even to the children 01121 of Israel 03478.

³ Every place 04725 that the sole 03709 of your foot 07272 shall tread upon 01869, that have I given 05414 to you, as I said 01696 to Moses 04872.

⁴ From the wilderness 04057 and this Lebanon 03844 even to the great 01419 river 05104, the river 05104 Euphrates 06578, all the land 0776 of the Hittites 02850, and to the great 01419 sea 03220 toward the setting 03996 of the sun 08121, shall be your land 01366.

⁵ There shall not any man 0376 be able to stand 03320 before 06440 thee all the days 03117 of thy life 02416: as I was with Moses 04872, so I will be with thee: I will not fail 07503 thee, nor forsake 05800 thee.

¹⁶ And they answered 06030 Joshua 03091, saying 0559, All that thou commandest 06680 us we will do 06213, and wherever 0834 thou sendest 07971 us, we will go 03212.

¹⁷ According as we hearkened 08085 to Moses 04872 in all things, so will we hearken 08085 to thee: only the LORD 03068 thy God 0430 be with thee, as he was with Moses 04872.

¹⁸ Every one 0376 that doth rebel 04784 against thy commandment 06310, and will not hearken 08085 to thy words 01697 in all that thou commandest 06680 him, shall be put to death 04191: only be strong 02388 and of a good courage 0553.

¹ And Joshua 03091 rose early 07925 in the morning 01242; and they departed 05265 from Shittim 07851, and came 0935 to Jordan 03383, he and all the children 01121 of Israel 03478, and lodged 03885 there before they passed over 05674.

² And it came to pass after 07097 three 07969 days 03117, that the officers 07860 went 05674 through 07130 the host 04264;

³ And they commanded 06680 the people 05971, saying 0559, When ye see 07200 the ark 0727 of the covenant 01285 of the LORD 03068 your God 0430, and the priests 03548 the Levites 03881 bearing 05375 it, then ye shall remove 05265 from your place 04725, and go 01980 after 0310 it.

⁴ Yet there shall be a space 07350 between you and it, about two thousand 0505 cubits 0520 by measure 04060: come not near 07126 to it, that ye may know 03045 the way 01870 by which ye must go 03212: for ye have not passed 05674 this way 01870 before 08543, 8032. heretofore: Heb. since yesterday, and the third day

⁶ And Joshua 03091 spoke 0559 to the priests 03548, saying 0559, Take up 05375 the ark 0727 of the covenant 01285, and pass over 05674 before 06440 the people 05971. And they took up 05375 the ark 0727 of the covenant 01285, and went 03212 before 06440 the people 05971.

⁷ And the LORD 03068 said 0559 to Joshua 03091, This day 03117 will I begin 02490 to magnify 01431 thee in the sight 05869 of all Israel 03478, that they may know 03045 that, as I was with Moses 04872, so I will be with thee.

⁸ And thou shalt command 06680 the priests 03548 that bear 05375 the ark 0727 of the covenant 01285, saying 0559, When ye have come 0935 to the brink 07097 of the water 04325 of Jordan 03383, ye shall stand still 05975 in Jordan 03383.

⁹ And Joshua 03091 said 0559 to the children 01121 of Israel 03478, Come here 05066, and hear 08085 the words 01697 of the LORD 03068 your God 0430.

¹⁰ And Joshua 03091 said 0559, By this ye shall know 03045 that the living 02416 God 0410 is among 07130 you, and that he will without fail 03423 drive out 03423 from before 06440 you the Canaanites 03669, and the Hittites 02850, and the Hivites 02340, and the Perizzites 06522, and the Girgashites 01622, and the Amorites 0567, and the Jebusites 02983.

¹¹ Behold, the ark 0727 of the covenant 01285 of the Lord 0113 of all the earth 0776 passeth over 05674 before 06440 you into Jordan 03383.

¹² Now therefore take 03947 for yourselves twelve 08147, 6240 men 0376 out of the tribes 07626 of Israel 03478, out of every 0259 tribe 07626 a man 0376.

¹³ And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles 03709 of the feet 07272 of the priests 03548 that bear 05375 the ark 0727 of the LORD 03068, the Lord 0113 of all the earth 0776, shall rest 05117 in the waters 04325 of Jordan 03383, that the waters 04325 of Jordan 03383 shall be cut off 03772 from the waters 04325 that come down 03381 from above 04605; and they shall stand 05975 in an 0259 heap 05067.

¹⁴ And it came to pass, when the people 05971 departed 05265 from their tents 0168, to pass over 05674 Jordan 03383, and the priests 03548 bearing 05375 the ark 0727 of the covenant 01285 before 06440 the people 05971;

¹⁵ And as they that bore 05375 the ark 0727 had come 0935 to Jordan 03383, and the feet 07272 of the priests 03548 that bore 05375 the ark 0727 were dipped 02881 in the brim 07097 of the water 04325, (for Jordan 03383 overfloweth 04390 all its banks 01415 all the time 03117 of harvest 07105,)

¹⁶ That the waters 04325 which came down 03381 from above 04605 stood 05975 and rose up 06965 in an 0259 heap 05067 very 03966 far 07368 from the city 05892 Adam 0121, that is beside 06654 Zaretan 06891: and those that came down 03381 toward the sea 03220 of the plain 06160, even the salt 04417 sea 03220, failed 08552, and were cut off 03772: and the people 05971 passed over 05674 opposite Jericho 03405.

¹⁷ And the priests 03548 that bore 05375 the ark 0727 of the covenant 01285 of the LORD 03068 stood 05975 firm 03559 on dry ground 02724 in the midst 08432 of Jordan 03383, and all the Israelites 03478 passed over 05674 on dry ground 02724, until all the people 01471 had finished 08552 crossing 05674 the Jordan 03383.

¹ And it came to pass, when all the people 01471 had finished 08552 crossing 05674 the Jordan 03383, that the LORD 03068 spoke 0559 to Joshua 03091, saying 0559,

² Take 03947 for yourselves twelve 08147, 6240 men 0582 from the people 05971, from every 0259 tribe 07626 a man 0376,

³ And command 06680 ye them, saying 0559, Take 05375 for yourselves from here out of the midst 08432 of Jordan 03383, from the place where the priests 03548’ feet 07272 stood 04673 firm 03559, twelve 08147, 6240 stones 068, and ye shall carry them over 05674 with you, and leave 03240 them in the lodging place 04411, where ye shall lodge 03885 this night 03915.

⁴ Then Joshua 03091 called 07121 the twelve 08147, 6240 men 0376, whom he had prepared 03559 of the children 01121 of Israel 03478, of every 0259 tribe 07626 a man 0376:

⁵ And Joshua 03091 said 0559 to them, Pass over 05674 before 06440 the ark 0727 of the LORD 03068 your God 0430 into the midst 08432 of Jordan 03383, and take ye up 07311 every 0259 man 0376 of you a stone 068 upon his shoulder 07926, according to the number 04557 of the tribes 07626 of the children 01121 of Israel 03478:

⁶ That this may be a sign 0226 among 07130 you, that when your children 01121 ask 07592 their fathers in time to come 04279, saying 0559, What mean ye by these stones 068? in time…: Heb. to morrow

⁷ Then ye shall answer 0559 them, That the waters 04325 of Jordan 03383 were cut off 03772 before 06440 the ark 0727 of the covenant 01285 of the LORD 03068; when it passed over 05674 Jordan 03383, the waters 04325 of Jordan 03383 were cut off 03772: and these stones 068 shall be for a memorial 02146 to the children 01121 of Israel 03478 for 05704 ever 05769.

⁸ And the children 01121 of Israel 03478 did 06213 so as Joshua 03091 commanded 06680, and took up 05375 twelve 08147, 6240 stones 068 from the midst 08432 of Jordan 03383, as the LORD 03068 spoke 01696 Joshua 03091, according to the number 04557 of the tribes 07626 of the children 01121 of Israel 03478, and carried them over 05674 with them to the place where they lodged 04411, and laid them down 03240 there.

⁹ And Joshua 03091 set up 06965 twelve 08147, 6240 stones 068 in the midst 08432 of Jordan 03383, in the place where the feet 07272 of the priests 03548 who bore 05375 the ark 0727 of the covenant 01285 stood 04673: and they are there to this day 03117.

¹⁰ For the priests 03548 who bore 05375 the ark 0727 stood 05975 in the midst 08432 of Jordan 03383, until every thing 01697 was finished 08552 that the LORD 03068 commanded 06680 Joshua 03091 to speak 01696 to the people 05971, according to all that Moses 04872 commanded 06680 Joshua 03091: and the people 05971 hasted 04116 and passed over 05674.

¹¹ And it came to pass, when all the people 05971 had finished 08552 crossing 05674, that the ark 0727 of the LORD 03068 passed over 05674, and the priests 03548, in the presence 06440 of the people 05971.

¹² And the children 01121 of Reuben 07205, and the children 01121 of Gad 01410, and half 02677 the tribe 07626 of Manasseh 04519, passed over 05674 armed 02571 before 06440 the children 01121 of Israel 03478, as Moses 04872 directed 01696 them:

¹³ About forty 0705 thousand 0505 prepared 02502 for war 06635 passed over 05674 before 06440 the LORD 03068 to battle 04421, to the plains 06160 of Jericho 03405. prepared: or, ready armed

¹⁴ On that day 03117 the LORD 03068 magnified 01431 Joshua 03091 in the sight 05869 of all Israel 03478; and they feared 03372 him, as they feared 03372 Moses 04872, all the days 03117 of his life 02416.

¹⁵ And the LORD 03068 spoke 0559 to Joshua 03091, saying 0559,

¹⁶ Command 06680 the priests 03548 that bear 05375 the ark 0727 of the testimony 05715, that they come up 05927 out of Jordan 03383.

²⁰ And those twelve 08147, 6240 stones 068, which they took out 03947 of Jordan 03383, did Joshua 03091 set up 06965 in Gilgal 01537.

²¹ And he spoke 0559 to the children 01121 of Israel 03478, saying 0559, When your children 01121 shall ask 07592 their fathers 01 in time to come 04279, saying 0559, What mean these stones 068? in time…: Heb. to morrow

²² Then ye shall let your children 01121 know 03045, saying 0559, Israel 03478 came over 05674 this Jordan 03383 on dry land 03004.

²³ For the LORD 03068 your God 0430 dried up 03001 the waters 04325 of Jordan 03383 from before 06440 you, until ye had passed over 05674, as the LORD 03068 your God 0430 did 06213 to the Red 05488 sea 03220, which he dried up 03001 from before 06440 us, until we had gone over 05674:

²⁴ That all the people 05971 of the earth 0776 might know 03045 the hand 03027 of the LORD 03068, that it is mighty 02389: that ye might fear 03372 the LORD 03068 your God 0430 for ever 03117. for ever: Heb. all days

¹ And it came to pass, when all the kings 04428 of the Amorites 0567, who were on the side 05676 of Jordan 03383 westward 03220, and all the kings 04428 of the Canaanites 03669, who were by the sea 03220, heard 08085 that the LORD 03068 had dried up 03001 the waters 04325 of Jordan 03383 from before 06440 the children 01121 of Israel 03478, until we had passed over 05674, that their heart 03824 melted 04549, neither was there spirit 07307 in them any more, because 06440 of the children 01121 of Israel 03478.

² At that time 06256 the LORD 03068 said 0559 to Joshua 03091, Make 06213 thee sharp 06697 knives 02719, and circumcise 04135 again 07725 the children 01121 of Israel 03478 the second time 08145. sharp…: or, knives of flints

⁶ For the children 01121 of Israel 03478 walked 01980 forty 0705 years 08141 in the wilderness 04057, till all the people 01471 that were men 0582 of war 04421, who came out 03318 of Egypt 04714, were consumed 08552, because they obeyed 08085 not the voice 06963 of the LORD 03068: to whom the LORD 03068 swore 07650 that he would not show 07200 them the land 0776, which the LORD 03068 swore 07650 to their fathers 01 that he would give 05414 us, a land 0776 that floweth 02100 with milk 02461 and honey 01706.

⁷ And their children 01121, whom he raised up 06965 in their stead, them Joshua 03091 circumcised 04135: for they were uncircumcised 06189, because they had not circumcised 04135 them by the way 01870.

⁸ And it came to pass, when they had done 08552 circumcising 04135 all the people 01471, that they abode 03427 in their places in the camp 04264, till they were healed 02421. they had…: Heb. the people had made an end to be circumcised

³² And the LORD 03068 delivered 05414 Lachish 03923 into the hand 03027 of Israel 03478, who took 03920 it on the second 08145 day 03117, and smote 05221 it with the edge 06310 of the sword 02719, and all the souls 05315 that were in it, according to all that he had done 06213 to Libnah 03841.

³³ Then Horam 02036 king 04428 of Gezer 01507 came up 05927 to help 05826 Lachish 03923; and Joshua 03091 smote 05221 him and his people 05971, until he had left 07604 him none remaining 08300.

³⁴ And from Lachish 03923 Joshua 03091 passed 05674 to Eglon 05700, and all Israel 03478 with him; and they encamped 02583 against it, and fought 03898 against it:

⁴⁰ So Joshua 03091 smote 05221 all the country 0776 of the hills 02022, and of the south 05045, and of the vale 08219, and of the springs 0794, and all their kings 04428: he left 07604 none remaining 08300, but utterly destroyed 02763 all that breathed 05397, as the LORD 03068 God 0430 of Israel 03478 commanded 06680.

⁴¹ And Joshua 03091 smote 05221 them from Kadeshbarnea 06947 even to Gaza 05804, and all the country 0776 of Goshen 01657, even to Gibeon 01391.

⁴² And all these kings 04428 and their land 0776 did Joshua 03091 take 03920 at one 0259 time 06471, because the LORD 03068 God 0430 of Israel 03478 fought 03898 for Israel 03478.

⁴ And they went out 03318, they and all their hosts 04264 with them, many 07227 people 05971, even as the sand 02344 that is upon the sea 03220 shore 08193 in multitude 07230, with very 03966 many 07227 horses 05483 and chariots 07393.

²⁰ Did not Achan 05912 the son 01121 of Zerah 02226 commit 04603 a trespass 04604 in the accursed thing 02764, and wrath 07110 fall 01961 on all the congregation 05712 of Israel 03478? and that man 0376 perished 01478 not alone 0259 in his iniquity 05771.

³⁰ And when Phinehas 06372 the priest 03548, and the princes 05387 of the congregation 05712 and heads 07218 of the thousands 0505 of Israel 03478 who were with him, heard 08085 the words 01697 that the children 01121 of Reuben 07205 and the children 01121 of Gad 01410 and the children 01121 of Manasseh 04519 spoke 01696, it pleased 03190, 5869 them. pleased…: Heb. was good in their eyes

¹ And Joshua 03091 gathered 0622 all the tribes 07626 of Israel 03478 to Shechem 07927, and called 07121 for the elders 02205 of Israel 03478, and for their heads 07218, and for their judges 08199, and for their officers 07860; and they presented 03320 themselves before 06440 God 0430.

² And Joshua 03091 said 0559 to all the people 05971, Thus saith 0559 the LORD 03068 God 0430 of Israel 03478, Your fathers 01 dwelt 03427 on the other side 05676 of the river 05104 of old 05769, even Terah 08646, the father 01 of Abraham 085, and the father 01 of Nahor 05152: and they served 05647 other 0312 gods 0430.

³ And I took 03947 your father 01 Abraham 085 from the other side 05676 of the river 05104, and led 03212 him throughout all the land 0776 of Canaan 03667, and multiplied 07235 his seed 02233, and gave 05414 him Isaac 03327.

⁴ And I gave 05414 to Isaac 03327 Jacob 03290 and Esau 06215: and I gave 05414 to Esau 06215 mount 02022 Seir 08165, to possess 03423 it; but Jacob 03290 and his children 01121 went down 03381 into Egypt 04714.

¹³ And I have given 05414 you a land 0776 for which ye did not labour 03021, and cities 05892 which ye built 01129 not, and ye dwell 03427 in them; of the vineyards 03754 and oliveyards 02132 which ye planted 05193 not do ye eat 0398.

¹⁴ Now therefore fear 03372 the LORD 03068, and serve 05647 him in sincerity 08549 and in truth 0571: and put away 05493 the gods 0430 which your fathers 01 served 05647 on the other side 05676 of the river 05104, and in Egypt 04714; and serve 05647 ye the LORD 03068.

¹⁵ And if it seemeth evil 07489 to you 04310 to serve 05647 the LORD 03068, choose 0977 for yourselves this day 03117 whom 05869 ye will serve 05647; whether the gods 0430 which your fathers 01 served 05647 that were on the other side 05676 of the river 05104, or the gods 0430 of the Amorites 0567, in whose land 0776 ye dwell 03427: but as for me and my house 01004, we will serve 05647 the LORD 03068.

¹⁶ And the people 05971 answered 06030 and said 0559, Be it far from us 02486 that we should forsake 05800 the LORD 03068, to serve 05647 other 0312 gods 0430;

¹⁷ For the LORD 03068 our God 0430, he it is that brought us 05927 and our fathers 01 out of the land 0776 of Egypt 04714, from the house 01004 of bondage 05650, and who did 06213 those great 01419 signs 0226 in our sight 05869, and preserved 08104 us in all the way 01870 in which we went 01980, and among all the people 05971 through 07130 whom we passed 05674:

¹⁸ And the LORD 03068 drove out 01644 from before 06440 us all the people 05971, even the Amorites 0567 who dwelt 03427 in the land 0776: therefore will we also serve 05647 the LORD 03068; for he is our God 0430.

¹⁹ And Joshua 03091 said 0559 to the people 05971, Ye cannot 03201 serve 05647 the LORD 03068: for he is an holy 06918 God 0430; he is a jealous 07072 God 0410; he will not forgive 05375 your transgressions 06588 nor your sins 02403. holy God: Heb. holy Gods

²⁰ If ye forsake 05800 the LORD 03068, and serve 05647 foreign 05236 gods 0430, then he will turn 07725 and do you harm 07489, and consume 03615 you, after 0310 that he hath done you good 03190.

²¹ And the people 05971 said 0559 to Joshua 03091, Nay; but we will serve 05647 the LORD 03068.

²² And Joshua 03091 said 0559 to the people 05971, Ye are witnesses 05707 against yourselves that ye have chosen 0977 you the LORD 03068, to serve 05647 him. And they said 0559, We are witnesses 05707.

²³ Now therefore put away 05493, said he, the foreign 05236 gods 0430 which are among 07130 you, and incline 05186 your heart 03824 to the LORD 03068 God 0430 of Israel 03478.

²⁴ And the people 05971 said 0559 to Joshua 03091, The LORD 03068 our God 0430 will we serve 05647, and his voice 06963 will we obey 08085.

²⁵ So Joshua 03091 made 03772 a covenant 01285 with the people 05971 that day 03117, and set 07760 them a statute 02706 and an ordinance 04941 in Shechem 07927.

²⁶ And Joshua 03091 wrote 03789 these words 01697 in the book 05612 of the law 08451 of God 0430, and took 03947 a great 01419 stone 068, and set it up 06965 there under an oak 0427, that was by the sanctuary 04720 of the LORD 03068.

²⁷ And Joshua 03091 said 0559 to all the people 05971, Behold, this stone 068 shall be a witness 05713 to us; for it hath heard 08085 all the words 0561 of the LORD 03068 which he spoke 01696 to us: it shall be therefore a witness 05713 to you, lest ye deny 03584 your God 0430.

²⁸ So Joshua 03091 let the people 05971 depart 07971, every man 0376 to his inheritance 05159.

²⁹ And it came to pass after 0310 these things 01697, that Joshua 03091 the son 01121 of Nun 05126, the servant 05650 of the LORD 03068, died 04191, being an hundred 03967 and ten 06235 years 08141 old 01121.

³⁰ And they buried 06912 him in the border 01366 of his inheritance 05159 in Timnathserah 08556, which is in mount 02022 Ephraim 0669, on the north side 06828 of the hill 02022 of Gaash 01608.

³¹ And Israel 03478 served 05647 the LORD 03068 all the days 03117 of Joshua 03091, and all the days 03117 of the elders 02205 that outlived 0748, 3117, 310 Joshua 03091, and who had known 03045 all the works 04639 of the LORD 03068, that he had done 06213 for Israel 03478. overlived…: Heb. prolonged their days after Joshua
