Old Testament

Bethlehem is mentioned in the Holy Scriptures as "the house of David" or Euphrates. Near Bethlehem died at the birth of Benjamin Rachel, one of the two wives of the patriarch Jacob, her tomb is still venerated here. Here King David was born, and here he was anointed to the kingdom by the prophet Samuel. In Bethlehem and its environs, the Book of Ruth takes place (Ruth.1-4). The city is also mentioned in the Book of Jeremiah.

New Testament

Bethlehem is best known for the fact that in this city, according to the Gospels, there was the Nativity of Jesus Christ. The Magi saw a star above the city and came to worship the future King, bringing gifts: gold as King, incense like God and myrrh as a Man. However, after King Herod ordered to kill all the male babies, the Holy Family left Bethlehem and disappeared in Egypt.
