According to information from Secure Computing, scammers configure a "war dialler" that dials numbers in a certain region and when the call is answered, the following occurs:

When this number is called back, a typically computer voice responds at the other end of the wire, telling people that they need to reconcile the data and enter the 16-digit card number from the phone's keypad

First of all, store your email.
