Saturday starts on Friday

In Israel, Saturday begins on Friday at 18:00 and ends on Saturday at 18:00.

Does not work on the Shabbat

• public transport (except taxis),
• currency exchange offices,
• most public, state and commercial institutions and enterprises.

Still depends on the city. In Haifa milder, in Jerusalem it is understandably stricter. There is a saying: "Jerusalem is praying, Tel Aviv is walking, Haifa is working." All is not so categorical, by Saturday you have to be ready everywhere. For example, a friend goes to Tel Aviv and on Saturday does not plan anything. So, if Tel Aviv and walks, then walk.

We do not use the Saturday lift

If in Israel on Saturday you will see the Sabbath elevator, do not use it.
Jews believe that to turn on the light - this is a modern way to light the candles, that is, to do the work, which on Saturday you can not do. In the elevator, by pressing the button you also turn on the electricity, because in the Saturday elevator there are no buttons, it automatically takes you to the upper floor and then comes back down stopping on each floor.

Let's say you need to go up from the 1st floor to the 3rd in a 10-story building.
The elevator is understood on the 10th floor, then it starts to stop on each floor, allowing people to enter slowly, even if they are not.
If you are in a hurry for dinner, then you are not late for it, you miss it.
